THE SETTINGS IN SEVERANCE THO

the way this ‘outing’ was supposedly a way for the innies to see the outside world, except the outside world is still Lumon

the diner is owned by Lumon. marks house, dylans duplex, obviously cookie-cutter builds, probably built by Lumon to provide enough housing for the branch. Even the natural world (so severe, and cold, and eerily beautiful in its severity) is Lumon national park or whatever. The way the camera treats the icy forest the same as the sterile white walls of the severed floor!

the only setting so far in this show that’s felt even remotely safe is devon and ricken’s home

started watching foundation on apple tv, was thinking “hmm TWO female protagonists? That sounds like a lot of female protagonists for a science fiction story originally written in the 1950s by a man” and so i go to do some research and. Whadda you know. Both characters were men in the original stories

Disappointed but not surprised

he never told anyone. god he never told ANYONE

WHY WOULD YOU HIDE THIS IN THE TAGS…..

[Description: tags reading “#can you imagine the whole galaxy thinking you killed the emperor and darth vader. #the whole galaxy thinks you killed your own father. and it's not like you could say that. it's not like you could tell anyone the truth #not that he saved you. not that he died in your arms. not that you mourned him. #not that you loved him #and you didn't do anything at all. #and you can't ever tell anyone. who would understand? who would believe? who would even want to hear it #so you don't tell anyone. you never tell anyone. you're the only one that knows” End]

this week’s episode had a lot going for it, but the phrase ‘lactation fraud’ is by far the most wonderfully insane thing to come out of this show so far

LACTATION FRAUD. Why is this show so hilarious

devon is so fucking cool. the way she hugs mark. the way she listened to innie mark’s concerns and not only does she take them seriously!! she takes them MORE seriously than outie mark himself!!! she’s the one insisting that they should be sure everything is okay with gemma. she’s exhausted from her newborn going MISSING and then finding her and she’s still trying to help mark. she DOES NOT trust milkshake. she tries to reconnect with mark after he (understandably) snaps at her. devon is such a cool fucking human being and sister. i adore her.

I'm going to be so real I HAVE developed a knee-jerk negative reaction against the words feminine and femininity I think women doing what they want is great but I really really don't like people even just hinting at how they think I should behave and that is usually implicit in the use of the terms in fact.

The thing is that a lot of the time when people call something feminine they mean they believe it to be an inherent part of womanhood because that is. The meaning. And if that is not something I do! My reaction is Die.

Anyway not to be a terrible Christian but I don't think personality traits like gentleness/courage etc etc are inherently gendered I just don't and I don't think they manifest differently in men and women I think they manifest differently depending on how a person works

Think about it this way... if I'm expected to have a different set of moral virtues in order to be an acceptable woman, then that implies that God has different moral standards for women

As Elisabeth Elliot put it, “the fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian makes me a different kind of woman.”

I read once, I forget where, that such personality traits are gendered only in the way they are typically expressed; a man's courage is more likely to be in protecting his family, sometimes physically, while a woman's is more likely to be in raising her children and not listening to discouragement. This, of course, assumes traditional gender roles, but also the thing I read did emphasise that that's not the only way to do things, just that it's more likely. On average. Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason, but there have always been outliers, and to be one of those outliers in any way does not negate the strength and value of the person or their qualities.

Or, more likely, the stereotypes are rooted in gendered upbringing which shape people towards gender stereotypes basically from birth.
