the best part about halo’s storytelling (& the dumpster fire that was halo 5) is that despite all it’s shortcomings, halo infinite took the story of cortana & the chief & made it something that is extremely emotional. i grew up with cortana &, in some ways, so did the chief. cortana was not only the chief’s bestfriend but ours too. & i think that’s why i was so afraid of the weapon taking her place, i didn’t want to continue playing halo games without cortana. but the way infinite ended was perfect. we could all finally grieve & the memory of cortana, the good she had done, was preserved over the bad. i quickly came to the realisation that i wasn’t afraid of change, the chief wasn’t afraid of change, we were afraid of betrayal. the weapon makes all of realise that it’s okay to let someone in after the damage is done, it’s okay to be human & let yourself feel.
i am truly impressed by 343’s storytelling & the fact that they turned something around that was received so poorly. i’m proud & happy to put the series of my most beloved games in the hands of people that truly care.
