The Woman Underneath the Sea

For @podcastgirlsweek (belated) day 6, "Podcast Crossover".

Prompted by @clonerightsagenda and it was brilliant. En route to Atlantis, Dimitri Stamatis finds something else that was lost.

Dear Leon,

A postscript to my last letter.  In the thrill and horror of encountering Atlantis, that empty city of death and lost memories, I had completely forgotten about the smaller, equally empty city of death and lost memories that I passed along the way.

My magnum opus, perhaps the nichest fic I have ever posted, which I read (skimmed) multiple (two) academic articles for.

I’ve posted two “episodes” today for AU day and will be posting two more for podcast crossover day on Saturday using Re: Dracula as a technicality and will post the final two on Sunday for the free space.

One more favorite scene I was contemplating at work is from "This is It" in season 3 of Alice isn't Dead. It's after Alice and Keisha release their tell-all news story about the government funding a bunch of monstrous serial killers and.... nobody does anything. So they spend a few months kicking around contemplating how no one cares, until they realize,

All of these people, all of these people in all of these places, they are waiting to be good. They are waiting for the world to be good. What they need is a way forward.  It’s not that they’re choosing not to know. It’s that they don’t know what to do with what they know. I had thought it was a matter of knowledge, but it’s a matter of organization. It’s a matter of Praxis.

It's a scene I think back to a lot these days. It's really easy to be overwhelmed by the scale of human misery in the world. We can't assume that everyone who isn't visibly doing something doesn't give a damn. They may just not know where to start. And it's easier to start together.

Listen to Alice isn't Dead and join a union!

Two months to go!

Podcast Girls Week is two months away. As a reminder, the event will take place on July 10-16. Hopefully everyone is gearing up!

Haven't heard of this before? Check out the FAQ.

Want to start brainstorming? Here are the prompts:

  • Monday: Favorite scene or episode.
  • Tuesday: Pre-canon or post-canon. What is a character doing before the story begins or after it ends?
  • Wednesday: Angst or fluff. Pick your poison.
  • Thursday: AU.
  • Friday: Relationships - romantic, platonic, familial, or any other way the characters can interact.
  • Saturday: Podcast crossover. Put that podcast… in another podcast.
  • Sunday: Free space

Wondering what people created last time? Browse the #podcastgirlsweek tag on tumblr or explore the 2020 AO3 collection.

Ready to dive in? Join the project discord here! It's pretty quiet at the moment, but hopefully we'll see some activity as the week draws nearer.

Discord server open!

The discord server for the Podcast Girls Week event is now open! You can join here.

This is a place to discuss ideas, post WIPs, and eventually share your final product. It's also a place where you can talk about your favorite podcast ladies.

Some notes:

  • Because the first event happened so long ago, I cleared out the introductions channel. If you did participate in the 2020 event, go ahead and introduce yourself again.
  • Feel free to request a channel for a specific podcast if there's a lot of discussion on it.
  • You do not need to join the server to participate in the event.

We’re back!

Good evening, everyone! It’s been quiet on this blog for a while, but I’m pleased to announce I’m planning on running Podcast Girls Week again in summer 2023. That’s a ways from now, but I thought I’d send out some feelers to find out what people thought of the last event’s prompts to see what we can improve on.

Last time, the prompts for the week were:

  • Favorite scene or episode.
  • Past/future. Where is your character before the story starts or after it ends?
  • Female relationships (romantic, platonic, familial, etc.)
  • AU
  • Angst or humor
  • Podcast crossover
  • Free space

Did these work for you? Would something else be fun?

To add a little extra entertainment, I’m also hoping to do some awards throughout the week (bragging rights only) for things like fandom with most entries, entry for the nichest fandom, longest entry, completionist participants, etc. Ideas? Please share!

Expect a formal announcement and marketing push starting in early 2023. I’ll see you then!

In the spirit of perpetual ladies night 2k eternity, I am resurrecting Podcast Girls Week (and will be committing to the Arden Dracula ‘lost season’ script as my contribution). I am currently soliciting ideas! Prepare to hear about this an annoying amount starting in January.
