How to help:
ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help
Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.
This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.

Murderous solipsism. Israeli football fans go on a rampage im Amsterdam, tearing down Palestinian flags and shouting racist slogans. Why? Because the very presence of anything Palestinian is a threat to the integrity of the solipsistic bubble we inhabit even when abroad.
Then, of course, we are surprised. How is it that when we do such things we suffer the consequences? How is it that we are attacked? How is it that the Dutch police doesn't recognize that we are on a mission for peace, that we are good while they must be bad?
Events last night in Amsterdam are presented as a "pogrom" here in Israel. We do not occupy the same plane of existence as the rest of you. Our actions have no implications. We can never be the cause of anything. Everything happens to us. Only we are real. Murderous solipsism.
Every article I've found has presented the Israel fans as innocent victims here, but then I read this paragraph in the middle of A CBS Report
So, as Mr. Goldberg says above, before the game Maccabi fans marched through Amsterdam attacking anything Palestinian and chanting "Death to Arabs", and then later after the game these same fans were attacked throughout the city, and yet the whole incident is being portrayed in the press as a spontaneous antisemitic convulsion.
Obvsl this situation is fairly confused right now. On Bluesky, I'm seeing some commentators I trust talk about the attacks being wider than just Maccabi fans, so it's possible there WAS a larger antisemitic element to this but, as of 9:22 CST, This Article from the Associated Press on the issue said there wasn't yet evidence of that
HOWEVER, there's also talk about discussions on Telegram(widely used by fascist and hate groups) of "Jew Hunting" coming out of the Mayor's office. Now, I'm not acquainted with Dutch politics, but after some prelim reading I feel like the Mayor, Famke Halsema, is a dedicated lefist with a strong sense of personal integrity, so I feel like she wouldn't make that up. So the rhetoric was there, even if we don't yet know if it turned into action.
This Article in The Forward(an independent leftist Jewish newwspaper) is, so far, the clearest and most sensible to me. I won't quote much of it, I'd rec reading it it isn't long, but I want to highlight two parts, this quote from a local community organizer:
And this 2nd quote from him ending the article:
My take, at this time, is that this seems to be a case of two groups of hooligans hooliganing at each other, which was intensified by current political events(including the disparity in how anti-genocide activism is violently suppressed by the very local cops escorting Maccabi fans around, protecting them as they cheer genocide and insult the local population).

"if Dems went too far left by not supporting genocide they'd have lost even more"
Yup. Im going to wait until all the votes are counted, but given how significant a part of the push to get rid of Biden was anger over his position on Palestine, and how angry lots of leftists remained over Harris's attempt to walk a middle-path on this during the campaign, I feel like there's going to be a strong argument to make that part of WHY dems underperformed was Biden and the leadership's support for Netanyahu's genocide.
There are still allot of unanswered questions about why polling is so borked specifically in US national elections though.
Stop trying to make “genocide” happen. It’s not going to stick, and people don’t take such hyperbole seriously. Go with ethnic cleansing and you ‘might’ get a little more traction.
The wild thing about this is how many people seem to think 'genocide' is a term of moral condemnation, rather than a legal doctrine with history and meaning. In Scots criminal law, if someone both possesses the mens rea (mental state) and commits the actus reus (the action itself) required for murder, then they are liable for murder. It's the same with genocide, the 1948 Convention, and the jus cogens principles of international law (not to mention the even broader definition of genocide constructed by Raphael Lemkin, who included 'lesser' actions like forced displacement). The political and military leadership of the Israeli state have met the criteria of both intent and action, demonstrating that they are prima facie guilty of genocide. This isn't hyperbole or about 'getting traction'. It's not my responsibility to sugarcoat reality and make it palatable to your delusions.
In case you're wondering how responsible the US is for every murdered child, aid worker, and civilian in Palestine, it's 70%.
It's as much an American genocide as an Israeli one.
This report touches on the relationship between U.S. weapons manufacturers and the Israeli government, which have maintained longstanding commercial relations. The U.S. government has cited these commercial ties as one of the reasons why the U.S. should continue to supply foreign militaries, including the Israeli military, with weapons and equipment.
Circular reasoning 101 and profit over lives, peace, and reason >:( >:( >:(
At least three ministries announced on Thursday that they would end all cooperation with the Haaretz newspaper, following allegations voiced this week by its publisher and head of the Haaretz Group, Amos Shocken, calling Israel's rule in the West Bank and Gaza a "cruel apartheid regime” over Palestinians, calling Palestinian terrorists "freedom fighters," and calling for sanctions against Israel's leaders.
What's the Hebrew for Samizdat?
This is a hard one for me. For a long time I'd say science fiction easily, but romance has grown on me. I'll have to say my orginal love realistic fiction.
And while you're here, please share and donate to be able to help a family with 2 young kids that lost their dad in this genocide. Our short-term is $15,000 to be able to provide for them during the winter

there's something very scary about the way we argue and entertain discourse on israel or on settler colonialism when, on the ground, israel has totally isolated northern gaza and is currently systemically liquidating jabalia (a refugee camp in northern gaza) just as they have, from the very beginning, said they would do. just as large swathes of israel came to be in 1948, to 1967, to the west bank today. there's something scary about watching indigenous people undergo a genocide in real-time in 2024 like they're squatters on some prime property while nobody moves except to argue about semantics. there's something scary about people being trapped and killed like fish in a barrel while you can text them and follow them on social media and watch their pleas in video as soldiers and tanks come closer. what the hell is this
jabalia in northern gaza has been under siege for over a week. no food aid in. constant bombing. journalists being openly targeted. the bbc describes israel's plan to use medieval siege tactics to ethnically cleanse and settle the north of gaza as a "controversial plan" while acknowledging that not only does israel not allow people enough time to use the humanitarian corridor to evacuate, they also shoot at people evacuating and are still targeting the south. they have also made it clear that whoever leaves will not be returning.
i don't really understand how the news can describe the process of genocide in such stark terms and call it a "controversial plan" instead of what it is: a horrifying crime against humanity.
i see they changed the headline after widespread condemnation with no apology or editor's note as usual. the BBC has done this multiple times over the past year:
everyone (including kamala harris) has acknowledged that aid isn't going into gaza and aid trucks are at the lowest they've been since the genocide began (and of the aid that enters, NONE reaches jabalia camp, currently under siege).
the biden admin issued a "thirty day notice" for israel to start letting aid in—people in jabalia have had no drinking water for ten days already. like rafah, the humanitarian pier, and all of biden's other "red lines" this is political theatre. the people of jabalia are being exterminated and have been for over a week.
as a side note, which many have forgotten: this happened with al-shifa hospital and the surrounding area. when israeli forces retreated (which will not happen if the general's plan is carried out) they found mass graves at the site, with nearly 500 people buried (some buried and bulldozed while still alive) in the courtyard.
the israeli army has currently surrounded all three barely functioning hospitals in the north of gaza and attacked two of them. there is nowhere for injured people to go. horrifying videos have been coming out of the aftermath of bombings (including one of a child being bombed, then the people gathering to gather the child being bombed). there are reports of idf rigging neighborhoods up to blow while people are still there, and bulldozing a house with the residents inside. several families have succumbed to starvation inside their homes.
israel is systemically destroying entire families, home by home. people from north of gaza are losing their families who have withstood over a year of genocide:
people in jabalia are literally being exterminated. this is not an exaggeration in the slightest. israel has declared that it will exterminate the people of the north of gaza, and it is doing it, and the united states has given them 30 days to finish the job. this is genocide in every sense.
you are watching an extermination campaign.
when you look at a burn, a laceration, an abrasion, a cut, a graze, or a scrape, and think how painful it must be. remember the videos of palestinians undergoing amputations and other surgeries without anesthesia or other painkillers. never forget that a few days ago, a patient still on an iv drip burned to death. we've been witnessing these war crimes and crimes against humanity for way too long. do not let these things to happen to you first, before you start caring for them.
i wrote this post to spotlight my friend @hatem1190. can you stop for a second and consider the visible and invisible wounds of his family members? it pains me to see his campaign stuck at less than 10% for almost three whole months already. money should be the least of his concern in times of survival but this cruel world had him thinking of ways on how to gain your trust to help him. he is showing us evidences after evidences of how genuine his fundraiser but you guys keep letting him down! shame on all of us!!
if you feel as helpless as me, then please do consider donating and sharing to give our international palestinian friends hope and support in the middle of the carnage facilitated by the western imperial powers. fucking condemn your country abetting a genocide by supporting palestinian organizers with all your might here. damn it.
The desperate appeals from the people trapped in northern Gaza should haunt us all forever.
They are being exterminated.
They are screaming for help.
They are being starved and no food had entered the area since the beginning of October. They are being besieged by Israeli tanks while Israeli warplanes hail death down on them. Hospitals are ordered by Israel to evacuate and journalists are being chased down and killed. Death is everywhere with practically no ambulances left.
Absolutely horrifying scenes.
If you don't know what to do start reading up on what's happening, share the info widely and call it what it is: genocide.
You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.

The Republican solution to Israel's ever-expanding genocide in the lands it occupies and WANTS to occupy is "Help Israel Commit Genocide so they Build the Third Temple Sooner, so we can Deport all US Jews to Israel, then Nuke Israel to Kill All The Jews to Summon Jesus".
OPPOSING THAT, i.e. denying Republicans the political offices and authority they need to further it by voting for the most likely candidates to win who are NOT REPUBLICANS, is Not, In Fact, Supporting Genocide.
Hope this clears that up.
