Horses are easy to draw and their anatomy makes perfect sense
it doesn't make a lot of sense biologically but it can actually be pretty fun to have sex with other men
Same socioevolutionary benefits as small talk.
It makes perfect biological sense!
Sexual behavior feels good, and the physical performance of it is entertaining&satisfying, and which particular nibbins the participants happen to have doesn't particularly impact those aspects of it. Like: pleasure, whether that be physical pleasure or sexual pleasure or the general pleasures of Doing Stuff/Having Stuff Done, is a product of having a nervous system, not of having a particular genital and hormonal organization.
And that's why we see homosexual behavior throughout the animal world ^v^ If anything it'd actl be WEIRD for humans to be an exception to that, spcl given the outsized social-role sex has in the human species.
Trans-inclusive gender-neutral anatomy talk is funny because it makes the human body sound so casual and recreational. "If you happen to have a dick" like one would happen to have a bag of golf clubs somewhere around here. Like you have one of those for hobby purposes or something. Got an uterus because it came with the house and you haven't gotten around to hiring a professional to get that removed.
you need to get it out of your mind that psychosomatic illness is just “making up symptoms” when it’s actually much more like your body is being actively poisoned by chemicals released from your brain
if you’re so stressed that you’re puking your guts up every morning, are unable to eat or keep anything down, you can’t look at light without feeling infinitely worse and feel exhausted and in pain all the time (or whatever your particular stress induced symptom set is) you’re not just feeling like that because you’ve willed it into being. your body is begging for relief from the constant barrage of stress hormones and it requires the fundamental source of stress to go away, not just distracting yourself from the symptoms
just because the root is psychological doesn’t mean the result isn’t an entirely physical process.
This and also "your body is desperately trying to alert you to the fact that stress is killing you"
This is such a good way to put it. I spent the first 4 months of this year throwing up as soon as i woke up every morning, I had chest pains regularly and I would get dehydrated at an ungodly speed no matter how much water I drank, and it really did just feel like i was dying
Yeah. Obvsl there's this really bizarre insistence in Euro culture that "The Mind" isn't physical, but like: your brain is meat. It controls you body(also meat) through physically spasming electro-conductive meat(nerves), and meat-juices(hormones). Your thoughts aren't ephemeral; they're physical events in your brain. And when your brain is in a bad place because of Stress --which is "JUST" Stress it's not like there's "Physical Stress" and "Social Stress" and "Psychological Stress" all of it produces the same chemical- and nervous- reactions-- you feel it physically the same way you do when you pull a muscle or twist a joint. Having something really shitty happen to you doesn't feel like getting punched in the gut because you know what metaphors are; it feels like that because your body responds to both THE SAME WAY.
Candy Anatomy – Learning the human anatomy with colorful candies
The awesome Candy Anatomy series designed by Mike McCormick, an American medical student who is having fun recreating his biology and anatomy diagrams with colorful candies…
❤️❤️
as an aroace person with limited sexual experience, no interest in watching porn, and poor sex ed as a teen, there IS something simultaneously funny and vaguely tragic about being 28 adult years old and realising how extremely tiny your frame of reference is for genitalia and deciding you should expand this to better understand bodies (yours and others). and then you're just there like "okay so what the fuck do I even google right now, anyway"
Breast Gallery-Nonsexualized Images of real, anonymously submitted breasts
Critique My Dick Pic [tumbex archive]-real submitted dick centric nudes
thank you (i think?)
why wouldn't it be thank you? you expressed interest in sexual education materials related to genital body diversity, and i keep these resources on hand for exactly that purpose.
it's natural to be curious about bodies--yours and others. the presence or lack of sexual intent motivating that curiosity is irrelevant. they're just body parts
I also found one of my favorites I couldn't find this morning: The Great Wall of Vulva and their Labia Library
sorry, my gratitude was real, my uncertainty was @ me ("am i sure i actually want to spend my evening looking at genitals or was i using the difficulty of knowing what to google as an excuse not to learn things") lol
do you have any resources for trans bodies, especially transmasc bodies? i am interested in better understanding what changes i might expect as someone on testosterone, but though i found references to photo projects re: bottom growth in a few places, all the links were dead
totally, the London Transgender Clinic and Dr. Keelee MacPhee have a variety of before and after photos related to various gender affirmation procedures.
i think that r/GrowYourTDick is the best repository of images of specifically trans masculine bottom growth. I can't comment on the culture of the forum, but there is absolutely a lot of images of transmasculine genitalia and extensive discussion of physical changes.
For (relatively*) trustworthy information, Hudson's FTM Resource Guide contains a lot of information about medical side effects and Things To Generally Be Aware Of, like increased risk for yeast infections and tips for managing locker rooms/swimming. *I can't verify that this information is up to date
I'm not directly connected to any trans masc transition support networks, but i know that discord is a thriving space for transition support and information sharing. i think it would be relatively easy to find positive community there. they often compile resources and information for members as well as provide topical discussion spaces. here's the disboard listings for public trans masc oriented servers
and this is just a really beautiful series of portraits of trans masculine people.
that about taps me out on resources!
no, I lied, I'm not done. I spent way too long looking for this photography archive documenting trans nude portraits specifically. lost to the ether. found other stuff though:
Archive of Body Alchemy: Transsexual Portraits by Loren Cameron, which includes images of genitalia in its "Genital Reconstruction" section, page 46. Portraits of clothed trans masculine people other than the author begin on page 34 in the "New Man Series."
A Genitoplasty Diary by Lou Sullivan (1984-1987) (no images but fascinating)
the evergreen Trans Bodies, Trans Selves
not useful at all, but an extremely cool in-browser recreation of a 90s mac in order to run a 90s trans information CD-Rom.
thanks! sharing for the sake of anyone else interested too
yeah there's so many dead links out there it's tragic. sometimes you even get as far as the artist's website and they'll have a page for the project but then the project is gone and you just get a 404. i'm guessing the increasing hostility of internet providers and stuff towards nudity/nsfw content and also the general atmosphere for trans people has an impact on the safety and practicalities of continuing to host stuff like that :(
For some reason as a like 5 or 6 year old I got one of those dolls that can pee and I remember being really frustrated that the pee went straight through it and there was no transformation of fluids involved, so I decided to make blueprints for dolls that had an actual digestive system & organs & all that. I was also a fan of Star Wars at the time so this resulted in my mom finding a notebook full of naked Star Wars characters (Yoda & his penis included) that I got in huge trouble for.
Your first mistake in art is thinking you draw men and women inherently differently
I'm serious, this is genuinely not a joke. There's no wrong way to do art but you do make a mistake when you think that you draw men and women differently without any overlap or gray area, like they're two opposites and that's how they'll always be FOREVER. Treating two genders as vastly different is absolutely the incorrect way to think about things and considering how anatomy is one of the first things you practice when you start drawing human or human adjacent characters, it becomes harder and harder to unlearn as time goes on
When learning to draw, you need to understand that there's more body types for ALL genders than just "flat as a board with no hips" and "slightly thinner waist with larger chest"
They recorded tinnitus? It's a physical thing?????
Transcript:
The most mind-blowing moment, not only for De La Mata but the scientists too, came when they managed to actually record the sounds that she heard in her ears – which now appear as ‘Left Ear’ and ‘Right Ear’ which begin sides A and B on the album – and in doing so opened up questions about the nature of tinnitus itself. “The NHS definition is that it’s a phantom sound that your brain is creating, that it isn’t something ‘real’, so you should try to ignore it.” By having De La Mata place her ear into an anechoic chamber, with an ultra-sensitive microphone perched in her ear canal, they were able to provide significant evidence to the contrary. “After the first recording of it, it was ‘There’s no way, this isn’t possible.’” They tried again with her breath held, and again with her tensing her ears, and again with other members of staff, but each time it became apparent that yes, the noises De La Mata hears are seemingly something physical.
Okay this one I've got no fuckin clue
Uhhh hey @mammalidentifier Long time no see, got any clue what this is ?
Hi! This is our good old friend, the rock hyrax (Procavia capensis)! You might know them from that one TikTok of the three little animals climbing all over a person to get a sip of their tea. Those are the exact same species of hyrax as this guy here! Except for the fact the ones in that video are babies and this one’s a grown adult.
Here’s a fun fact about hyraxes: their closest living relatives are dugongs, manatees and elephants! Yes, it’s kind of hard to see it at first, but if you look more closely, you’ll realize they definitely share some family resemblance when it comes to the very unique trait of having incisors for tusks. In all other mammals with tusks, they’re their canine teeth instead!
Sadly, only dugongs still have their little tusks. Manatees lost theirs during their evolutionary process. As adorable as they are, they weren’t particularly necessary for grazing underwater.
Manatees kept another vestigial trait from back when they were land mammals that dugongs have lost, though: toenails! And as it turns out, toenails are another thing they have in common with their elephant and hyrax cousins:
Both elephants and hyraxes have one extra toenail in their front feet compared to their back feet. Manatees do not because sirenians don’t have hind limbs at all, just vestigial pelvic bones. No need for them when you have a paddle for a tail!
Dungeon Meshi - Orcs
oh i really love that skeletal breakdown-- orcs are built that broad to start with, and they have HUGE strong femurs, too. i'm also delighted by the detail of their feet! like a pig's four-toed trotter, they seem to have two main toes with big nails, and two vestigial back toes that are almost but not totally incorporated into a plantigrade foot's heel.
A+ monster design.
This floating into your bedroom at 3 AM
MLP character with this in its face.
Okay so I keep seeing people unironically posting this on my timeline all the time
I just wanna clear something up about it
1)It is an undoubtedly bad drawing, yes, the rule of art is generally “it’s wrong if it looks wrong” and this clearly looks wrong 2) The person who did that draw-over doesn’t have a much better grasp of anatomy and, I’m going to assume, isn’t very familiar with what bodybuilders look like
The Liefeld drawing was referenced from this photograph of Arnold Schwarzenegger;
this is a pretty common bodybuilding pose and photography technique, to do these slight upshots to emphasize the size of the chest as much as possible. You can find a million photos of even just Arnie striking this exact pose in different situations;
The thing about competitive bodybuilders is that their dimensions are so outside the realm of what the average person is accustomed to that they can look “out of proportion” in real life. Parts of the body that can’t change size like the head and hands appear comparatively small, and the girth of limbs can make them appear shorter than they really are
(In order these guys are Ronnie Coleman, Moustafa Ismail, Daniele Seccarecci, and Jay Cutler if you want a source) side note, comments about the body type being “unattractive” aren’t necessary in this conversation, bodybuilding on this scale is a form of body modification, akin to being heavily pierced or tattooed. In other words, they aren’t doing it for you.
The problem is, if you make art referencing a body type that appears out-of-proportion to the layman and don’t fudge the scale of individual elements to make it seem stylistically balanced, it will look wrong to the audience. You can show someone a tracing of a body like this and it will more than likely appear more “wrong” to them than a version taking artistic license to enlarge the hands and feet and enlongate the limbs to something the contextually feels correct.
Honestly, it is technically possibly to fit a fairly correctly proportioned human arm behind that shield;
The wrist on a human body is about even with the groin when the arm is out straight, there’s room to fit a limb that long behind the shield. But the arm looks incorrect for a number of reasons; The chest wouldn’t appear at that angle if his far arm wasn’t wrapped around to hold his wrist like it was in the reference, the shield obscures line of his spine which causes his midriff to look massively thick, hiding the forearm behind the shield emphasizes how comparatively short the limb would feel even if the proportions were perfectly accurate, and the star on the shield causes viewers to assume at a glance that his arm is bent (if you look at the shield assuming the first point clockwise from the top is the actual top of the star it looks more in-proportion, but you have to stop and think about it so the drawing has already failed)
If you were to dump the shield and put the arms in a position that matches the way the chest is flexed, it makes a lot more sense what he was going for;
Which honestly isn’t even outside the realm of what actual human bodies can potentially look like;
I know this drawing is a long dead horse that everyone is sick of seeing beaten, but I wanted to throw this out there because hey, it’s a good example of what liberties to be mindful of taking when you work from references.
Our belly buttons are the same thing as the holes in fruits where the stem goes
[VIDEO TAKEN: SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2023 | Video ID: A video of a black, yellow, white, and red lubber grasshopper on a piece of paper, wriggling its abdomen and opening and closing the dorsal and ventral valves of its ovipositor in a way that makes it look as if the back half of the animal is its own snapping creature /End IDs.]
Encountered this grasshopper and scooped it up with a letter! Which is about when I noticed it exhibiting this fascinating behavior! It's freaky but very interesting!
I didn’t know lubber grasshoppers did that! Terrifying!
i dont know of you ever got an answer but i asked and heres the result
thanks, I’ve been thinking about this still and like curlicue cal mentioned, there’s a ton of layers to this—autonomic nervous system type stuff, my confusion was momentarily assuming that fevers are controlled in a way they’re probably not (some kind of adjustment to the target setpoint that thoroughly and predictably would affect every system thru central control, like the incubators at work). (I bet myself ten dollars here and now it;s way more bogus than that and probably something gets suppressed instead lol)
while balls are frequently depicted as contracting in response to imagined/internal stimuli like anticipation of cold or distress, and they prolly do, all body stuff is wired in upside down redundantly and backwards, especially something as critical as this I bet. So JUST having a fever and perceiving yourself as cold, these are a couple inputs to a complex holistic body switchboard, and I’m no longer surprised that balls have a local override to the brain’s perception of cold. Paralyzed ppl’s balls probably dangle accurately too.
I’m still a little curious about whether that local temperature sense is the same as the main cns or brain or whatever one, like same receptors and chemical logic and stuff, or whether it’s interesting or purpose built in some way.
