Concept process for my DABB contribution!

(1) I started with some PotC studies, followed by (2) some rough thumbnails. I did a few headshots to get a feel for both of their faces in (3). Afterwards I doodled their getups that were just for fun. I worked on their actual designs in (4). Based on the thumbnails I sketched six concepts. For the eagle eyed: I did use some Black Sails promo material as rough reference.

Here’s the full 25 minute timelapse! I ended up going for the uncut version because I didn’t like how the edited version looked.

A heavily condensed process video of my latest piece. Since I didn’t think it’d go anywhere near where it went, I only hit record a little way in. This is 30 hours in 30 seconds and a little test whether I should upload the full 25 minutes ghghghfh so I thought I’d do a little no-nonsense poll on this

I generally have recording off in Procreate for battery and space reasons which is why when the video starts the base structure of his face is already established (I started sketching him as a rectangle, his face is so shape). I only turn it on when I'm like HOLD ON--

because the Merlin fandom is INCREDIBLE and made me nearly cry yesterday due to the positive response I got, I put together a messy progress sheet with random WIP screenshots I made partly for myself as a reminder that it doesn’t always look great and partly for twitter. I wasn’t planning to make this so that’s why it’s all over the place.

You can see me working with the loomis/asaro method because the lighting situation was frustrating :) AND I got to the point of making a new chainmail brush, of course, because who am I if not an enjoyer of overcomplicating things?

2018 vs 2022

is this what accomplishment feels like? 😌

to be fair, in 2018 I wanted to emulate my traditional workflow with this piece but I can honestly say that it wouldn’t have looked much different if I hadn’t done that. Plus, I used the same mindset now (you can see the rough brushstrokes better on the birdapp (bigger resolution) - I’ll link it in the replies). I’m happy with this one (●≧ω≦)9

well, I inadvertently turned this year into my personal Re-Roguening year to stay sane, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wanted to do a “draw x again” but then I was pissed off bc the shelves at most of the local supermarkets are empty & Sera just got way angrier than she started off 🤷‍♀️

I changed a lot in my approach from then to now. But the bees are the same.

also, looking at this, I’m thinking that I should put other stuff (like landscape and anything that isn’t a portrait) on this blog as well but at the moment this is all I’m doing kfghfhgjk 

I was approached by the lovely @thefailureartist for an insight to my art process which totally made my day. 💖

My work-flow isn't really anything special but I'll try to illustrate it here a bit (since have no experience with making vids :P). But a video isn't completely off the table. I just thought that until I can do something more detailed, this is better than nothing. You'd find that I'm horrifyingly unorganized, forget to name at least half of the layers, paint on the wrong layer more often than I'd like, and just as a whole don't plan ahead. :D
