I think so many people would be so much happier if they remembered that being a fan of something doesn't mean you need to be part of a fandom. There are things I am a HUGE fan of, that I have zero fandom interaction with, unless something randomly passes along my dash. There's no tier level that says how much of a fan you are of something, where you have to interact with other fans, or produce or consume fanworks. You can enjoy the piece of media as a whole, encapsulated thing, and I can't recommend it enough. Yeah, fandom can be an awesome community, but it can also be an emotionally wrecking hellscape that sucks the joy out of something. The fandom doesn't even have to be a negative environment for you to want to avoid it. Sometimes your love for something, a show, an author, a movie, is just for you. You don't have to build communities around everything.
