i love "eurovision out of context" stuff because it implies they make more sense in context. they don't.

Wow, how terrible would that have been if the protagonist of the movie actually had a place in the story.

As most know by now, Chapter 27 of the Dragon Ball Super manga has been released, and fans, particularly the GoChi/Goku fans, have been in an uproar about a particular moment shown in the manga.
This particular moment, has Goku claim that he was neither around for Gohan nor Goten’s births, to which Vegeta replies along the lines of “You might not be a bad guy, but as a father, you’re the worst.”
There are two major reasons why the fans are in an uproar about this:
And you know what? I fully agree with the GoChi/Goku fans, this particular scene is utter bullshit and completely unnecessary. It serves to demonize Goku as a character, which has been an ongoing thing since Super started thanks to Toriyama’s supposed views on Goku. But the fact is, it goes completely against what we know about Goku, it goes completely against everything we have seen and learned about him in the manga. It’s out of character, horribly so.
It has been well known that Toriyama has been forcing his views on Goku in Super, claiming this to be Goku’s true appearance. But you know what? It’s not. Any true fan that has read the manga from start to finish knows this and it is enough reason for me to say that Toriyama really needs to reread his own manga, because he really doesn’t know Goku anymore.
Further more, the common rumor is, that Toyotaro (the manga’s writer) is a huge VegeBul fan…and honestly, this shows. It became more apparent during the scene where Trunks talks to Vegeta about Future Bulma. But the most damning evidence has to be the reunion between Bulma and Vegeta after the heroes return from the future. A reunion that originally belonged to Goku with Goten and Chichi.
As such, it is becoming apparent that theses scenes are done to glorify Vegeta while dumbing down Goku, and it is pointless. It would have been completely fine for Bulma having a heartfelt reunion with Vegeta, in the very same moment where Goku reunites with Chichi and Goten. In fact, it would’ve even looked better that way in my opinion. You don’t need to kick Goku down a flight of stairs in order to make Vegeta look good.
Speaking of which, the anime handled that scene so much better.
In the anime, Vegeta did not want to leave Bulma’s side because Bulla could be born at any moment. It showed progress for Vegeta, it showed that he did not want to fuck up a second time like he had done with Trunks as he was no doubt, not present with Trunks’s birth. Of course there is the moment where Goku shows a lack of care by having him claim that he wasn’t around for Goten’s birth, so Vegeta shouldn’t worry about Bulma getting mad over it. But it can still be excused as Goku’s more typical naivety. While it does dumb him down a bit, it most certainly doesn’t demonize him, nor make him seem like a horrible father. Goku simply has grown accustomed to the fact that Chichi will ultimately forgive him, as she has many times, because she loves him.
The manga however, tries to glorify Vegeta and demonize Goku by having Vegeta claim that he’s the worst father. But you know what? This completely backfires on Vegeta’s side from a fan’s perspective, and ultimately makes both Vegeta and Goku look like asses. Goku, for the aforementioned complaints, and by making Vegeta look like an absolute hypocrite. Because Vegeta is one of the least people you’d look at for a “Father of the Year” award considering the fact that he didn’t give a damn about his son within the first year of the boys life and most likely wasn’t there for his birth. Then followed by giving only a slight damn about Trunks for the following 7 years, up until he finally hugs the boy during the Buu Saga.
Because, while yes, Vegeta was around for those 7 years, it was clear that he spend most time training his ass off and that his interest in Trunks mostly peaked when the Tournament came about because his pride couldn’t possibly accept the fact of his son losing to Goten. Hardly something that one could call a good father, let alone to give him the right to call anyone else the worst father.
So thank you, Toriyama and Toyotaro, for not only making Goku look like an ass, but for making Vegeta look like a hypocritical ass as well. I recommend that you both start rereading the manga, because neither of you have any clear understanding anymore about the characters that you are writing for. Which is even more damning on Toyotaro’s side of things, because he claims he keeps the manga close to him to read through, so that when he writes these chapters, he stays as close to the source material as possible. Sad fact is, he’s been majorly deviating from said source material. Something of which I’m sure others like @dbzebra or @kairi-yajuu will completely agree with.
Honestly, to me, this scene is more damning than that damn kiss debacle.
You 👏🏻 don’t 👏🏻 have 👏🏻 to 👏🏻 knock 👏🏻 down 👏🏻 Goku 👏🏻 to 👏🏻 make 👏🏻 Vegeta 👏🏻 look 👏🏻 good
Couldn’t have all of this better myself. Well done.
Either way, this is the last I’m reblogging about this for now because frankly I’m sick of Super as a whole for the time being. Just taking a step back from it all. I’m done with the fighting. I’m done with the morons. Im done.
The new arc has been a let down and this is just the icing on the cake. DBS is supposed to be the continuation of the series I love more than anything. Yet all its done is disappoint me and get me mad which is just depressing.
So yeah lol
Man, look at Goku being a bad dad and refusing to spend any time with or be supportive of his sons.
toei really did take goku’s 20+ years of development and chucked it all for fan service huh lmao
me as im writing something: wow this is actually coming out pretty good

Italian trains are so paradoxical that my train was late but I got to university earlier
Trenitalia aesthetic:
- they announce a delay but then the train arrives exactly at the same hour as usual
- they do not announce a delay but the train arrives ten minutes later than usual
- Ticket inspectors who exist only for the first two days of the month and then magically disappear
- the announcer’s voice that becomes shrill by saying that one random word of the phrase, terrifying you, and than returns normal
-friendships born due to the disperation / anger at the announcement of the (umpteenth) delay
- the Angry Nostalgic Old Man ™ that “wHE the DuCE waS hEre The TRains Were PunctUAL”
- but the rest of the station is super calm bc they are blatantly used to delays
-first and second class interchangeable
- “how this window is supposed to work”
- the announcer that “the train will arrive with 30 minutes of delay” and then “no wait 25″ “40″ “15″ “100″ “60″ “120″ “the train is cancelleD”
- “we are sorry for the inconvenience”
Also: has anyone heard the new English translation “the train has reached X, final destination of this journey”?
