I wish I could be optimistic about the second pjo season, I really do, but every time I see that hopeful sentiment of "maybe the show runners will listen to the complaints about season 1 and fix it going forward!!" it reminds me of another notable time that RR's work received a not insignificant amount of criticism (the Blood of Olympus), and in response he wrote a passive aggressive one-shot wherein the seven literally just sit and verbally justify everything that happened asdlfksdjfsdf

Let’s talk about Poseidon

I wanna talk about the God of the Seas, Stormbringer, Earthshaker, Father of Monsters. 

The god who’s least chosen by the humans due to his prowess. Scared that he’d drown them with a flick of his hand. 

The god who wept because a nymph kept running away from him. 

The god who’s always being compared to his siblings. 

Poseidon is more human that most gods, but none of ancient Greece shows this. 

Father of Monsters yet more human? Quite the contradiction, no?

And yet, it’s precisely why he was more human than the rest of the Olympians. 

Poseidon loves and cherishes everyone deeply. And once they’re gone? He feels the sorrow more than anyone else. 

He falls for the monsters, as the humans called them, and the ugly ones because he saw their beauty and kindness. He saw something in them.

He had more monster children than humans hence his title, and do you know why?

Because he can’t bear to outlive his children. The first few times he did, it broke him. Flood came to different sites of the world. A storm like no other had seen nor survived. 

Thus he made a vow, to never let himself be swayed by mortals. 

It’s true most of the time. He rarely makes children with mortals. Afraid of having a kid and forgetting that he’s a god and he can’t stay, no matter what he does. He can’t keep making them immortal. Zeus will have a fit. 

But when he met Sally Jackson, he couldn’t help himself. She who brought a new shine in his life, she who knew he was a god before he can do anything, and she who punch him on their first date because she thought he was flirting with another. 

(Which he wasn’t, he was actually, asking the pretty mermaid to clear up a spot in the ocean floor. Where else would they see the perfect view of marine life?)

They went out for a year. 

Poseidon once said, “If I was mortal, I would ask you to marry me right now.”

And Sally smiled sadly before kissing him. She knew it was time to say goodbye. Zeus won’t hesitate to kill her and their child if he knew. 

They held each other close that night and when morning comes Poseidon is gone. 

Poseidon thought, that he would love his child regardless and wouldn’t mind if he turn out to be trouble.

And what a storm bringer Percy Jackson is. 

He’s his favorite son.

They fought together, laugh together, and sometimes, he would join Sally, her new husband Paul, to a family dinner. 

And for thousandth time, Poseidon yearns for humanity. 

He doesn’t mind being portrayed as evil god, nor being called the Father of Monsters. Those are his children and he loves each and everyone of them dearly. 

Though he doesn’t know how to show his affection, he tries and for that most of his children loved him back. 

He cares not for the loathing of the humans. Nor the sneers of his fellow gods for choosing a “monster” for a lover. He sees with more than eyes and for that, the people who knows Poseidon’s true nature, are entirely grateful. 

I wish we could know more about Poseidon. How he coped to be a god. How he mourned the idea of being human. How he wish one day, he wouldn’t have to watch his children die. 

Is she smiling? Is she bored? Or does she just want to kill you? You may never find out... until she stabs you in the face.
