Trump: "Burn Them All!!!"
Main difference between Ceresei and Trump, is that Ceresei is actually pitiable.
For sure. They’re both products of oppressive systems, but Cersei actually has been oppressed by one of the mechanisms of that system. She really has been limited by sexism, and she really did spend her entire adult life in an abusive marriage. On top of that, we only get her POV after she’s just lost her son and her father within just a few weeks. That’s not an excuse for her behavior, and it affected her behavior the way that it did because she already had those narcissistic tendencies, but it is at least something of an explanation for her spiral. Trump’s sense of victimization is entirely imaginary.
The other big difference is that Cersei is neither stupid nor weak. She’s developed spectacularly bad judgment, but she wouldn’t have been able to do nearly as much damage if she didn’t have some degree of cleverness, tenacity, and sheer nerve. Trump’s overwhelming impotence is kind of grotesquely prophylactic.
What's the arc in this? /post/156638784670/an-arc-i-have-been-thinking-about-for-no
Ahaha. I was oblique about that because I’m generally wary of seemingly one-to-one comparisons to real life politics, but that one held up so well I kind of want to get into it, so. I am 100% sure that Cersei’s inner monologue is how Donald Trump’s mind works.
This will be history, alive...
This isn’t something that I’d planned to put together. But maybe someone who’s flipping through tags is dragging their feet on doing the right thing today, and needs a new way into it. So if you’re someone who’s being dragged down with nebulous negativity and resentment about the next leader of the free world, take a new perspective and think about why.
I am not going to go entirely off-topic and make the affirmative case for Hillary Clinton. I happen to agree with the most enthusiastic and least equivocal arguments out there, but they’re already out there. Nor am I going to get too deep into the weeds on specific character comparisons.
This is, instead, a case for using fiction that is purposefully at a remove from the real world as a critical angle for introspection about assumptions we make about the real world. Think of it like a side-view mirror check: no matter how conscientiously you observe traffic laws, you have blind spots that you need to check.
it really is uncanny, though
Little Theon. Heard you managed to fuck things right into the ground. (laughter) Captured a castle you couldn't keep. Got yourself taken prisoner. Even heard you have no cock. (laughter) Explains why you think a woman can be king.
“Dickless Theon had some very mean things to say about me. Him and Mulan over there. You guys know Mulan?”
I killed him. Threw him right over a rope bridge and watched him fall. He was leading us nowhere and we would still be heading there if it weren't for me. No one loved him. No one wanted to follow him. He led us into two wars we couldn't win. I apologize to you all for not killing him years ago.
“Balon was a loser, okay.”
Gallivanting? That the sort of thing you start to say once your dick gets chopped off? (laughter) Did the great lords of Westeros teach you words like that?
“I’ve never heard a real man use a word like ‘gallivanting.’“
Right idea, except I'm the one who's going to build the Iron Fleet because I'm the one who knows how to use it. I've been all over the world. I've seen more of it than all of you combined.
"A huge fleet. A tremendous fleet!”
I'm going to gallivant right over and give it to Daenerys Targaryen along with my big cock.
“Daenerys Targaryen wants me. She came onto me at the Plaza. You probably heard about it. Not from me, obviously. My publicist, Bluron Bluerage. I said, I don’t know, I’m pretty busy, but she’s totally into me. And my penis.”
And together we're going to take the Seven Kingdoms. I wasn't born to be king. I paid the iron price and here I stand.
"And the greenlanders are gonna pay for that wall!”
EURON: Where are my niece and nephew? Let's go murder them.
AERON: They stole our best ships.
Sad!
(I realize this is not a particularly unique observation, but we’re staving off a national nervous breakdown here.)
