Keep your Chin up!
(Well! This has certainly been a long time! Sorry for those of you who have been waiting or wanting a post like this. WoW has not been really all that interesting to me with their expansions as of late, and role playing has been a fun distraction. Anyways, finding @pebster with her new art on the DA series has brought back some nostalgia and I wanted to write something on this piece. I hope you enjoy!)
The moon’s shine hidden behind the clouds this night and leaving the outside shrouded in darkness. Only the lights of the keep penetrated the shadows on the mountain side. One of these lights came from a room with in the large tower. Cullen sits at his desk, the candlelight in his room and on his desk being the dominate light in his room. He was finishing some of the reports and readied to move onto shipping details.
He flexes his back out and let out a sigh as his spine cracks. The Templar was still in the habit of slouching when not standing, which he has been warned on many, many occasions. “Damn these papers, feels like there is no end in sight!” He grumbles to himself, scruffing his small beard with his hand.
“You could take a break then.”
His head shot up from the papers to see a familiar elf walking over to his side from the doorway. Her inquisitorial uniform blended in with the shadows of the room, while the golden shoulder guards shines from the lights around her. She stands next to him and looks at the papers sprawled all over his desk. Organization wasn’t his strongest quality when it came to many papers. People sure, papers however...
“I remember asking you to knock whenever you came Eli. If I hadn’t known it was you-”
“You’d still focus on your writing and papers and tell of the poor fool who tried to disturb you to do it another time. Be it a messenger or even an assassin!” She cheekily interrupts, grinning more at his forced frown. Eli notices the weariness in his eyes and the bags under his eyes. Her smile warps to concern and puts a hand on his shoulder.
“I’ll get some sleep when I at least get half of this done okay? I’d rather not-”
Cullen was once again interrupted, however this was because Eli pulls his eyes away from his work and to her’s. He tries to avoid eye contact but couldn’t help looking into his old flame’s blazing blue eyes. He sighs, knowing he lost to the elf once again. He could never hide himself when she wanted to learn what truly troubles him.
“I just... I just want something good to happen now. After everything that’s happened...” He looks down away from her eyes, shame washing over the Templar.
The elf let his head fall from her hand, and walks over to another part of the room. He then sees Eli bringing over a chair and sits next to him.
“If I can’t convince you to take a deserved break now, then I’m just going to have to help you finish so you CAN take one.” She smirks to him, taking one of the papers over from the side and looking it over.
Cullen soon smiled to her, and looks back at the papers in his hand. “You think you can stay up to finish this Eli?”
“Depends. Can you keep yourself awake for the next hour or so?” She raises an eyebrow, her eyes staying on the guard report.
“If it’s for you, I’d stay up through the night until dawn.”
