For one of the first times in his life, Chimney was not only chosen, but he was chosen lavishly. Maddie didn’t just say “I want to marry you.” Maddie left Hen’s house and went out to buy that fancy pillow for Jee and that giant heart ring. And then she woke up early enough to get her and their toddler ready, and practice Jee’s part in the proposal. She then made a breakfast spread and definitely practiced showing off her ring while drinking her coffee, making sure the angle was perfect for Chimney to see.
Chimney wasn’t just chosen. He was told “I choose you, and here are all the tiny little details to show you how excited I am to choose you” by a woman whose entire life has been one choice after another stolen from her. Grieving her brother. Telling her living brother the truth. Her first marriage. And now Maddie finally gets to choose, and she makes a show of it. Because this choice is the easiest one she’s ever made.
