"I would never-"

You would if you were tired enough. You would if you were hungry enough. You would if your mind and body had been worn down enough, through pain or disease or toil or violent struggle. You might if you were put on the wrong medicine, or you got the wrong kind of head injury, or you were forced to choose between someone else and yourself. You might if your livelihood was staked on it, or all your hopes and dreams. You might if you didn't know what else to do, if it's what you were taught or if nobody taught you anything else.

I have not been worn down in most of these ways. I have lived a remarkably privileged life. But I have been worn down in some ways. And they were enough to teach me that in the wrong circumstances, any of us can become someone we don't want to be. It's worth keeping that in mind.

Look we all want a robo dog but if you kill someone with a sledgehammer to steal theirs, they are going to find you. There's no way a 75k$ dog doesn't have gps

we are killing the dog

NO.
ALL DOGS ARE PRECIOUS.
Even robot ones.
Avatar

its not a dog, its a machine used and designed for police surveillance and the entire reason they made it dog shaped is so idiots like you would go "awwww robot dog how precious" instead of seeing them as the oppressive tools they are.

we're killing the fucking dog

That's not a robot dog.

It's a four-legged robot spider.

It is not a dog, a spider, a chicken, a horse, a fish, a tick, a mosquito, a tapeworm or a baby

It is a weapon

There is nothing morally wrong about breaking weapons that are hurting people for any reason other than to prevent those people from hurting others worse

Avatar

the dog robots are fully capable of hurting people, and badly. failsafes that would prevent that have not been installed. the police are deploying a thing out in public that can maim anyone who touches it wrong.

look, when i was a kid i was passionately in love with the idea of robots--that humans would one day create another sort of intelligence to share our world with-- and believed very firmly that we should respect and protect all our robot friends from the start, so there would be no violent humans-against-robots revolution or anything.

anyway it turns out that the people trying to keep end-stage capitalism running are really banking on us feeling more love for the robots than for the kind of people they're going to be using the robots to oppress.

so like. maybe lets all agree right now that if a robot is being used to hurt a person, you need to smash the fucking robot. they're going to make the robots really cute. they're going to show us so many movies about how much robots need to be loved. and then they are going to use robots to hurt people.

let's try not to fall for it, okay?

And don't forget that scary af episode of Black Mirror, Metalhead. Robot dogs can fuck right off.

They created a weapon, told you to call it a friend and watched as your empathy became their trap and tool.

Real life dogs are oftentimes weapons as well

People who exploit animals will often exploit humans too. They’re exploiting the cuteness of animals to manipulate you and the potential danger of dogs to control you.

So if we’re being intersectional about this, also be cautious about people who use animals as tools.

Boston Dynamics publicly condemned the project for using its robot “in any way that cpromotes violence, harm, or intimidation.” The day after Spot’s Rampage debuted, Boston Dynamics rolled out a partnership with the NYPD.
Boston Dynamics remotely disabled MSCHF’s legally-purchased Spot® robot via an undisclosed backdoor.

If it ain’t three laws safe, it ain’t friend shaped.

Bludgeon it.

Sooooo the company I work for works with law enforcement. As in, they're our main customers. (Which I'm actually all for, because the amount of accountability we're loading into the back end while "making their jobs easier" is ASTONISHING. My very leftist old hippy Dad is excited about me working here.)

Anyway, I have seen these robot dogs in person at a conference, and it took under a minute for my brain to go "Doggo! Friend shaped!" When I stepped back and thought about it, it was unnerving as HELL.

So yeah. Go buy that hammer. Bet you can find similar ones at thrift stores, too.

no no no no, listen to me: remove smashing technology with a hammer from your mindset.

the type you'd need for this is heavy, expensive, unwieldy, without practice you are just as likely to hurt yourself more, and genuinely at the end of the day you are not going to break this with a hammer.

forget "hammer == best way break technology"

if you wanna fuck up technology you get a can of expanding foam. it's small, incredibly easy to carry/conceal and it WILL fuck up any technology WAY MORE than even an expertly wielded hammer hitting every weak point every single time.

you break something with a hammer and unless you know precisely what you're doing (and have the time to do it), that shits reusable anyway. but expanding foam? there is no coming back from that for anything.

Good news, it's even cheaper than the hammer

the thing that sucks is that people love saying sleep early is good etc etc and yeah it is. I've seen some benefits before. but I think it sucks to ignore that late night is the only time with any freedom. I think it sucks to not acknowledge the dread in waking up and it's a work day again

i think a lot of liberals need to confront the fact that they don’t actually believe everyone should have basic human rights. a homeless person could call me every slur under the sun and i would still want them to have housing, food, etc. the belief that everyone is entitled to basic human rights should not hinge on whether you “like” someone or not. at that point the entire ideology crumbles.

This random tweet from an Israeli came up on my feed so I scrolled down further and holy shit imagine making this your tinder profile picture. These people are actually not one bit remorseful but actively relish in the death and destruction they bring upon Gaza.

This investigative documentary actually delves into this and how these pictures can in fact be used as evidence in ICC cases of actual war crimes (looting, destruction of property, etc) or even as relevant evidence of the genocidal mindset of these psychopaths.

Studies show that approaching youth with a bystander-intervention model is actually a lot more effective for reducing sexual assault, and it is also more enthusiastically received than programs that bill themselves as anti-rape.
We can tell youth that they are basically “rapists waiting to happen” (anti-rape initiative), or we can tell them that we know they would intervene if they saw harm happening to someone and we want to help empower them to do that (bystander intervention). The kids jump in with both feet for the latter! It was amazing to see children (and young boys in particular) excited to do this work and engage their creativity with it. Also, studies show that not only do they go on to intervene, but they also do not go on to sexually assault people themselves. Bystander intervention also takes the onus off the person being targeted to deter rape and empowers the collective to do something about it. It answers the question in the room when giggling boys are carrying an unconscious young woman up the stairs at a house party, and people are not sure how to respond and are waiting for “someone” to say or do something.

Richard M. Wright, “Rehearsing Consent Culture: Revolutionary Playtime” in the anthology Ask: Building Consent Culture edited by Kitty Stryker

This is also, btw, how the US drastically reduced drunk driving in the US. Telling people they shouldn’t drive when intoxicated made absolutely zero difference. A slogan-and-ad-campaign for “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk!” changed drinking culture. Going after the bystanders is quite often the most effective thing to do in any social change.

The United States sells more weapons of war than the rest of the world combined.

I think if you're responsible for selling more than half the world's deadly weapons you shouldn't get to be on the UN "Security Council" with the ability to veto calls for ceasefires and other binding resolutions. Conflict of interest. Major conflict of interest.

would much like  to point out that the people publishing these articles are trying to needle millennials into treating gen z with the same disgusting vitriol we were treated with.

don’t buy it.

our younger brothers and sisters might eat a tide pod and get us blamed for it, but we have more in common with them than we ever had with boomers or gen x.

they are terrified of the things we can do together. remember that.

the new normal that should have arised from the current covid pandemic was a fully vaccinated populus, masks as common usage, huge amounts of industry restructured for remote work, single payer healthcare, elimination of the landlord class and massive public health awareness

but the minute we approached any of that capitalism screeched on the brakes. this state will never be out for your interests.
