Elphaba is told that she is to be married to the Prince of the Vinkus. Two days later, she runs away. - “What will the Prince think when he sees me?” she asked, her voice cool despite the pounding in her chest. “Surely, he’ll call off the arrangement once he does.”
Her father’s smile was thin and cold. “He won’t. The Prince has his orders and his own… indiscretions to atone for. This arrangement is as much about salvaging his family’s name as securing our alliance. What he thinks of you is irrelevant.” - Obligatory Arranged Marriage/Fake Dating Fiyeraba AU.
WOW!! Thank you all SO MUCH for all the amazing comments on the first chapter!! VERY VERY much appreciated - I live and die by those comment emails, I swear.
(I'm already breaking my rule not to edit after midnight whoops...)
Elphie taking Glinda's glasses is the best thing I've ever seen
he needs enrichment
Wicked (musical/movie) was really like “here’s a drop-dead gorgeous perfect beautiful young woman with super high cheekbones, dark dangerous eyes, and waist-length raven-black hair, who has a biting wit, is very passionate about everything, stands up against a fascist govt, wears a midnight-black homemade corseted dress that sweeps along the floor, and becomes really really hot when she goes a little crazy….. and everybody hates her because she’s green.”
Elphaba: “Well, it seems the beautiful only get more beautiful, while the green just get greener.” / “I wish I was beautiful for you” / “I have to go” | “By my looks he won’t be blinded”
Also Elphaba:
Idina Menzel | Donna Vivino | Cynthia Erivo | Stephanie J. Block | Jackie Burns | Kerry Ellis | SJB (workshops) | Julia Murney | Dee Roscioli | Mandy Gonzalez
My suspension of disbelief can take the most absurd things fantasy worlds present to me in both film and theatre, but when you look at me dead in the eye and tell me that the kind, hot, nerdy, brooding, anarchist witch that fights for animals’ rights and refuses to be submissive to abusive authority figures is supposed to be UNNATRACTIVE because she’s green… Like, you lost me there, mate.
I mean, Glinda and Fiyero were two of the most desired coveted people in Shiz, both the textbook definition of attractive, and by the start of Act Two (and even before, if we’re being honest) they’re the President and First Gentleman of Yearningland and go to bed with dreams of cheating on the other with Elphaba at the first opportunity. They both proudly wear the badge of “Elphaba’s Bitch”, and THAT I can believe.
“they’re the President and First Gentleman of Yearningland and go to bed with dreams of cheating on the other with Elphaba at the first opportunity. They both proudly wear the badge of “Elphaba’s Bitch”, and THAT I can believe.”
This is the funniest thing I’ve ever read.
I personally love it when actors are not normal about the characters they play. I love it when they get attached and start saying weird shit cause they have clearly been thinking about it. Yes court jester, tell me more of your special little headcanons.
one of my favorite parts of wicked is watching elphaba's idealism and glinda's realism clash. and before anyone says anything, yes glinda is the realist between them. she sang an entire song about it. it just goes over ppl's heads coz they dress it up in bubblegum pink and a jaunty tune.
elphaba is the idealist. she has dreams of how Oz could be a better place, where everyone is accepted for who they are and aren't opressed or marginalized. she becomes a revolutionary because of those values, because she believes in fighting for the rights of freedom and the future.
and the other side of the coin is glinda, who understands innately how the world works. it's not about how much knowledge you have or how good you are at what you do. you can be the most qualified person for the position but if you're not popular with the masses, you're done for.
and those values they each have are constantly clashing with each other. elphaba believes she can fix the system from the outside. glinda believes she can play the long game and fix it from within. they both believe what they're doing is the best way to protect.
they don't see the other's POV until For Good. it's only then when elphie understands that the way she's been viewed has backed her into a corner and hurt her cause. it's only then does glinda choose to believe that the world could be a better place, that if she told the truth, nothing will happen because there must be goodness in the world. and by then, well, by then there isn't much of the song left. it's been written. all they can do is sing.
ideally u should discover wicked the musical when ur young because it has the potential to unlock things in a young mind that just ends up rotten and stale and locked away forever once ur grown up
when ur age 11 watching wicked on stage and the wizard and I plays and u grasp the concept of wanting a future for urself and what is this feeling plays and ur grasping the concept of pure, raw, unadulterated emotion and dancing through life plays and ur grasping the concept that u cant really live life unburdened and popular plays ur grasping the concept of female friendship and the breaking stigma that surrounds femininity and defying gravity plays and ur grasping the concept of having to give up things to live a life you can believe in and thank goodness plays and you grasp the concept of l o n g i n g and wonderful plays and u have to confront the reality of moral ambiguity and no good deed plays and you come UNHINGED and then for good/finale plays and by this point ur like
hunting down this post to find that OP turned of reblogs has me heartbroken.
because I knew you I have been changed for good.
Brainstorms in the East. Something WICKED this way comes.
Oh hey. Here’s some old Wicked art from 2015. Why am I digging it back up again…? Uh………..no reason.
I have a sickness.
is this for anyone? or just me lol
okay everybody talking about gliyero being the comphet/beard ship and normally i agree with you BUT i feel like the movie is like the first time i feel like they've actually liked each other? their first interaction is just great and has so much chemistry. and fiyero's smug little "you're good" after watching how galinda handles boq. and MOST IMPORTANT TO ME is that little "hey, hey" when galinda starts to fall asleep at the top of the lion cub scene. mr. bailey will never know how much he altered my brain chemistry by being SO DAMN GENTLE WITH HER in that moment. it's gonna make act 2 hurt SO BAD because we KNOW they actually care about and love each other, just not in compatible ways. if they knew about the possibilities of polyamory we would be fucking set
