con coming out as queer actually adds so much context and so much more weight to how he talks about watching taika and rhys film the e5 moonlight scene and how he always finds a way to gush about the central romance between ed and stede in almost every panel and interview he does.
like, he’s is a middle-aged queer man who has kept his personal life extremely private for years. that "oh, this is our show" moment he's said he had while on set watching them film the “you wear fine things well” scene must have been a personal realization for him. this story about two middle-aged queer men falling in love is just as impactful for him as it is for us.
it’s reminding me of when the show first came out and there were so many people opening up about how much this show meant to them, like how the op talks abt in this post:
knowing now that con mustve had a similar experience while filming the show, and that this show as a whole has made him feel comfortable sharing a piece of his personal life that he’s kept private for decades, it’s just reminding me how special ofmd is and how it means so much to so many people.
in regards to Con O'Neill coming out as queer:
do not make him regret his vulnerability with us.
Our Flag Means Death and the fandom helped him feel more comfortable sharing a personal detail with us, but he doesn't owe us anything more.
He doesn't owe us specific labels
He doesn't owe us any explications.
We do not need to speculate on his identity, it is not our business.
He has been incredibly generous with the fandom (much of the cast and crew have been) and it was a very intimate thing he decided to share with us.
It's enough
Be respectful of his privacy
happy conathan o’neill seemingly coming out as queer day to all who celebrate
For those who have not seen the Florida SuperCon panel, here’s what he said (in response to a question about how the show has affected them personally):
“I'm from - is it bumfuck or buttfuck nowhere? (Nathan: You do you, hon!) - as well and to be part of a community that is so rich and diverse and proud and creative and loving and hating and generous and kind to each other, majoritively, for me to be part of that community... I'm usually quite private with my life and my work. And this show has kicked the fucking doors off that and I'm honored to be part of your community. And my journey is my journey and each of yours is yours. And please don’t feel at any point in your life that you have to announce yourself until you’re ready because when you’re ready, you’re fucking ready, and I’m ready and I’m blessed and I love you all; and thank you for being a part of my community.”
The only thing that could have made the reveal that Con was the one who didn’t know the show was gay funnier is if he had stayed oblivious through the moonlight scene and had instead figured it out at the beginning of the next episode when Izzy overheard Ed telling Stede to run him through followed by obnoxiously loud sex noises.
Con saying that he’s bored of gay relationships being portrayed as an obstacle, and talking about how beautiful and kind it is that Ed and Stede are just allowed to fall in love 🥺🥺🥺
lol i KNEW it was con o'neill who didn't know the show was gay and this explains a lot, actually
incidentally this is not me dunking on con, i actually think it's super understandable and it helps make sense of a few acting choices & interview comments i thought were slightly odd otherwise but totally make sense knowing nobody bothered to tell him
con 🤝 izzy
not knowing they're in a gay romcom to hilarious result
This is a beautiful revelation
Maybe when he says he didn’t mean to play Izzy as homophobic it was cause he didn’t know there was homo to be phobic of
this photo is so funny. why does con look like he’s shrank in the wash

Q: As someone who was a teenager for Section 28 Part 1, I just want to […] say a massive thank you for speaking up about Section 28 Part 2. What’s it been like at the moment, working on a show that has got such cool and interesting things to say about gender broadly and masculinity more specifically?
Con O'Neill sent David flowers for his play that just opened recently 🥹🩷 [X]
During the costume swap question Con said “There is some stuff in s2 - that we are not allowed to speak about - that is quite beautiful” What could that mean? 👀 Someone is gonna have a better costume than Taika? Someone is going to swap costume? Izzy is going to wear Ed’s leather??? What does it mean??
"Izzy would only lose to blackbeard"
Con izzy lost to Stede ahshdjkd TWICE

Listening to the Last of Us Podcast about Episode 3, 'Long Long Time'.
Neil knew him from Chernobyl and that's who he had in mind.
I SCREAMED.
I'm obsessed with his face in this scene. The fear, the desperation, the sorrow... I know we talk a lot about how amazing Con's expressions are but it's seriously incredible.
Man of a thousand face journeys.
