I Am A Tourist.

My name is Sam & I felt there wasn't enough Death Cab for Cutie going around Tumblr, so I made this blog in an attempt to change that. I hope you enjoy.

Thoughts on "No Room In Frame" by Death Cab for Cutie.

After First Listen:

Okay, so to be honest, I wasn't that into it on the first listen. I mean, I liked it, but some things took me by surprise in a negative way.

I liked the ambient beginning, but I felt that the way Ben's voice and the typical 4/4 kick-drum came in kind of ruined it. As the song carried on, I enjoyed it more with each second, however, in the second verse, the electronic drums became too forward and I was thinking to myself: "Why is the electronic drum beat so present? Jason should be kicking some ass right now instead of taking a back seat."

I love the electronic undertones in "Black Sun" but in "No Room In Frame" they felt a little too forward.

I suppose to sum it up initially, it just didn't sound the way I expected it to, and I think that caught me off guard on my first listen, but now after several listens I feel quite differently about the song.

After Several Listens:

Okay, so this song is actually amazing, haha! Isn't it funny how opinions can change so fast? Anyways, I really dig the groove of this song. Once the second chorus starts, the song becomes very rich and full and sounds wonderful. Speaking of the chorus, this is probably one of the better Death Cab choruses in recent memory. The line: "We'll both go on to be lonely with someone else" is wonderfully depressing. The lyrics of the song as a whole are just great, along with the instrumentals (that guitar riff though...)

It's not doubt that this song is about Zooey. I think analyzing this situation and how it's playing into Ben's lyrics is fine, however, I think some people are being inconsiderate towards Zooey...so, just throwing that out there.

So, yeah, this song has really grown on me! It's a sad song, with somewhat upbeat instrumentals, and it has begun to evoke a lot of emotion out of me, something that Codes & Keys, even though I love that album dearly, doesn't really do. Codes & Keys is an excellent album but it doesn't give me "the feels" like every other Death Cab album does. But "No Room In Frame" is bumming me out in all the right ways, so this is good! Haha.

What are your thoughts?
