Fr!Fr! 8 summary

My books finally came in, and I ripped into one to give a quick summary of the extra skit!

The guys are having a study party at Haru’s place. Makoto and Haru are having trouble with English, and Makoto asks Rin to help, but Haru insists he doesn’t need any help. Rin tests this by asking Haru to say his catchphrase in English. Haru tries very hard but winds up just saying it as usual in Japanese—except he pronounces “Free” perfectly. Rin not-so-gently corrects him on the phrasing, and Makoto and Nagisa repeat his English fine, but Haru continues to say it in Japanese.

Rei then demonstrates his English prowess with “I can only swim butterfly, but I’m going to change in the future.” Nagisa is impressed and Rei confidently tells him to ask him if there’s anything he doesn’t understand. Nagisa then says there’s a section of Japanese history he doesn’t understand and proceeds to bombard Rei with complicated questions on their nation’s history (because Nagisa’s actually good at history XD). It works out about as well as you can expect.

Nagisa then asks for Rei’s help with math, and now the tables are turned, and Nagisa is overwhelmed by the complicated theorems. They all break for pizza, only to realize this is a math problem too, since the pizza has been sliced into eighths and there are 5 of them. Rather than give in to Rei’s complicated math splitting of the pizza, Nagisa suggests they just each eat one slice, and then decide who gets the final 3 by rock-paper-scissors.

Rin watches all of this, bored with their antics, until he realizes Haru is missing from the table. He looks around until he finds him sleeping on the other side of the table and yells at him to wake up, hitting him in the head with a wadded up piece of paper.

They’re back studying again, but Nagisa goes off to curiously inspect the closet for a daruma, and when Rin turns his back to scold Nagisa for slacking off, Haru falls asleep again (wtf is he narcoleptic?? it’s not even nighttime in the skit…). At the end of his rope, Rin suggests they play a game. A dark game. Rei, and Makoto are terrified, Haru is blank, and Nagisa is excited. The game, Rin says, will be, “All-night Strip Studying”!

They’ll be asked questions, and if they get a question wrong, they have to strip—simple! If they get so many wrong that all they have left is their underwear, then they have to run to the ocean and dive in. Makoto is, naturally, not thrilled about the ocean part, and Rin agrees that Makoto can be special and just have to jump in the bath.

The first to respond gets to answer—if you get it wrong, you have to strip, but if you get it RIGHT, you get to put some clothes back on.

Rei objects—it’s not fair that Rin, who will be giving the questions, doesn’t have to strip at all. Rin tells him not to worry. For every question they get right, HE will strip off something. As he says this, he unbuttons his top collar button provocatively.

Rei: You seem quite confident… Rin: If I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna be serious about it. And I don’t plan on letting you guys get a single question right. (as he says this, he snaps the hairband in his hair, like goggles).

Question 1: What is the translation for “insist”?

Nagisa chimes in, but he’s wrong.

Question 2: The translation for “public” is…

Rei answers correctly, but Rin continues the question, which includes Rei’s answer already and then asks for the SECOND meaning. So Rei is wrong too.

By the end of the night, they’re ALL down to just their underwear (including Rin), and Rin vows to make the next question the last. Nagisa answers—and is incorrect, and off he runs for the ocean. The game continues, and Makoto tries his luck next, and also fails. Into the bath with him, and then he takes his loser seat next to Nagisa.

Rin asks his next question, and Haru and Makoto share a look. It lasts, and lasts, and lasts.

Makoto: “Haru…are you saying that you…YOU WANT TO GET IN THE WATER?”

Yes, Haru has lost his will to fight the water and is now going to purposefully try to get a question wrong.

But before he can answer, Rei answers—incorrectly, and he’s out too. When he comes back from his dip, Haru is glaring daggers at him, pissed he got his chance to jump in the water taken away.

Haru’s turn finally comes, and he answers Rin’s question…CORRECTLY. Without meaning to.

Rin: “…You beat me, Haru. As expected of the man I’ve accepted as my rival.”

He then runs off to jump in the ocean, and the others scramble to ease Haru’s mood by reading him questions in Rin’s place.
