Yeah, like the bird.

@yeahlikethebird

Pigeon, 33 (nonbinary, they/them). I recently changed my name and pic on here to keep my nonsense/personal tumblr separate from my attempt at making an art account, but we'll see if it sticks lol. If you need me to tag specific triggers let me know.

My working theory is that a spell component tied to a gold piece value is dictated when that spell was inscribed at the particular time your character is reading it.

If the book or scroll or whatever is old, or not local, it could be out of date. If it was written locally within the last few years, it has a greater chance of being accurate.

The interplay here allows a greater chance of spectacular failure or success (depending on the local economy).

I don’t know.

Maybe this is too in the weeds for taste.

But the raw mechanics of things, that’s the stuff I love the most.

"Look, I'm going to warn you, this spell is reputed to be powerful, but it was seen as impractical because of how expensive the components are. They were hard to get a hold of, too." "Shit. Well, tell me what it is, I'll see what I can do." "Okay, let's see, you need... Oh. $30 of gold fragments, cinnamon bark from Ceylon, coffee beans harvested from a Colombian hillside, and $5 of saffron." "...if that edible gold stuff counts, I can probably get it all off Amazon?" "Yeah, this was all probably harder to collect in 1854."

imagine if skyrim was the most popular game of all time by an order of magnitude and people caleld video games ‘skyrims’. and it cost ninety dollars and took up half the average computers hard drive. and then peoel would be on nexus being like ‘hi guys check out my farming sim skyrim mod’ and it just had you kiling draugr but on a farm. and people were like ‘yeah i think that you just cant do farm simulation in video games’ and if anyone brought up stardew valley theyd be like ‘okay well first of all its presumptuous to  assume i can afford a second video game or have space for it on my hard drive. and Second of all when i play skyrim i just run back and forth around the towns picking up all the cabbages for seven hours on end so i don’t see why i’d need a whole game programmed to be about farming. i can play skyrim the way i want to. stop gatekeeping gaming.’ anyway thats what its like to like ttrpgs other than dungeons and dragons.

This first draft is more in the way of the idea of a game system than a fully realised game, but it should get the idea across. I suspect that folks mostly just wanted to see what character creation could possibly look like, and that it’s got. Every single person who took it upon themselves to slide into my DMs asking when the game would be published knowing full well that I only came up with the idea three days ago now owes me a character writeup. =P

(For those wondering what the hell is going on, this post should clear things up. Short version: it’s a tabletop RPG about bullshitting – or at least, that’s what it’ll be once it’s finished!)

Radical Catgirl Anarchy

I was really hoping this was the name of a new tabletop game idea

Radical Catgirl Anarchy

A no-GM hack of Lasers & Feelings by John Harper

You’re a bunch of scrappy catgirls out to build sustainable communities and bring down the Man, not necessarily in that order. What are you waiting for?

Create Your Characters

  1. Choose one or more styles for your catgirl: biker, glam, goth, grunge, leather, pastel, punk, raver, scene, something else.
  2. Choose a role for your catgirl: courier, DIY expert, field medic, hacker, mediator, scrapper, team mom, something else.
  3. Choose your Number, from 2 to 5. A high Number means you’re better at Radicalism (passionate speech, community organising, empathy). A low Number means you’re better at Catgirlism (being a batshit feral incarnation of chaos).
  4. Choose your Catgirl Name.

As a player, your goal is to get in trouble and find creative ways to get out. As a character, choose one of the following goals or create your own: bring down the Man, fight injustice, help those in need, protect your community, prove your weird social theory, prove yourself, raise a ruckus.

Create Your Anarchist Cell

By concensus, pick two assets your group of radical catgirl anarchists enjoys: personal transportation, secure communication, convincing fake IDswell-organised, safehouses, supportive community, favours owed.

Also pick one problem: criminal records, small (probably literally just the player characters!), prone to infighting, flat broke.

Rolling the Dice

When you try to change a situation, roll 1d6 to find out how it goes. Roll +1d if you’re prepared, and +1d if you’re an expert. (If there’s ever a question of how many dice you should roll, decide by group consensus – there’s no GM to ask!) Roll your dice and compare each result to your Number.

If you’re using Radicalism, you want to roll under your Number.

If you’re using Catgirlism, you want to roll over your Number.

  • 0 successes: Somehow it all goes wrong. The player to your right will tell you how things get worse.
  • 1 success: You manage it, but the player to your right will tell you how things are more complicated than you thought.
  • 2 successes: You change things for the better. Describe how it plays out.
  • 3+ successes: The forces of chaos smile on you. Describe how your effort plays out, and the player to your left will describe how things change for the better in a way you could never have intended or predicted.

If any of the dice roll your Number exactly, you achieve Radical Catgirl Insight. Ask the player to your left to tell you something true about the situation that you didn’t know before. Good questions include:

What are they really feeling? Who’s pulling the strings here? What do these people really need? What should I keep an eye out for? What’s really going on?

After hearing the answer, you have a choice: you can either let your original roll stand, or you can change your approach based on what you learned and roll again.

Helping: If you want to help another character, describe how you’re helping and roll. If you score even a single success, hand them +1d.

Running the Game

Working around the table clockwise, players take turns framing each scene. There should probably be some random d6 tables of scenario and scene prompts here to help with that, but this game is a shitpost I wrote in under an hour, so I’m going to see if we can’t crowdsource that bit. Post ‘em if you’ve got ‘em!
