Night Watch, Sam Vimes learning important lessons about being a good man and a good copper
i am a big doofus,,,,,,,a dumb goober,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,my whole life ive been drawing on a 72ppi 1000px by 1500px canvas and wondered why them brushes from pro industry artists dont work as they should, you absolute clown you need the 300ppi
anyway heres a vimes discworld as a kolesov's brushes test (and a test to paint with warm shadows and cool lights)
i still feel so silly
i am not immune to stories in which characters who have endured harsh, empty existences become absolutely transformed by someone’s sincere love for them and learn to live

the best thing a male character can do is be insane and love his wife
“How do they rise up?”
-Terry Pratchett, Night Watch
Happy 20th anniversary, Night Watch
I'm starting a collection. Idk what the aesthetic is. Blorbocore
when a character is empty-handed & surrounded by weapons pointed at them but they're calm and maybe even smiling, and the attackers are the ones who look afraid??? very sexy i think
Damn! Damn! Damn! Every year he forgot. Well, no. He never forgot. He just put the memories away, like old silverware that you didn’t want to tarnish. And every year they came back, sharp and sparkling, and stabbed him in the heart. And today, of all days…
happy 25th of may everyone
thank you for sending assassins after me btw i really needed that. it meant a lot to me
--Sam Vimes
It wasn’t many steps to Treacle Mine Road and as he turned towards the Watch House a flash of colour caught his eye. And there it was, overhanging a garden wall. Lilac was common in the city. It was vigorous and hard to kill and had to be. The flower buds were noticeably swelling. He stood and stared, as a man might stare at an old battlefield. …they rise hands up, hands up, hands up… -Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

Night Watch is about how maybe you can’t completely change history, but you can make it a little better, about hope in the face of oppression, about doing the right thing even if you risk losing everything, but it’s also about Vetinari’s sexy aunt
just had an epiphany that the reason Vetinari pisses Vimes off so bad is that Vetinari’s a chaotic good rogue who somehow got himself in charge of making laws. and like they’re still chaotic laws (legalizing theft but regulating it comes to mind) but they’re good and they work and Vimes couldn’t be more annoyed that they do
and the reason Vimes annoys Vetinari is Vimes’ lawful goodness is distinctly working-class and allows for a good deal of Annoying The Rich Because I Want To, That’s Why
