donghae isn’t surprised when kyuhyun stops replying to him.
the hurt which arrives, so suddenly is something donghae hasn’t expected, though. it’s like heavy chains have started to wrap themselves around his heart, clenching it so painfully before they begin to drag his heart downwards, like a burden he wants to rid himself of.
it’s uncomfortable - it’s nothing donghae’s familiar with.
they had a deal to not cross this line but of course, of course. donghae’s a fool who will always follow his heart rather than his mind, like kyuhyun always complained and now his bad habit has cost him their friendship.
donghae sighs to himself loudly as he throws his phone against the wall with a loud groan before he collapses onto his bed, suddenly too boneless for his liking (with his face against his pillow because he doesn’t want to look at the time, he doesn’t want to be reminded of how long has it been since kyuhyun decided it was a great time to start ignoring him forever).
he lost count of how long he has been lying in his position, with regret and annoyance stirring in his mind until he hears a loud clank! coming from where his window is.
“fucking hyukjae, can’t you forget to bring your keys a better time next—” donghae grunts, grumpily until he pushes his window open to see kyuhyun standing at his front yard, cheeks all flushed from the heavy snow that is falling from the night sky. “— kyuhyun?”
“why do you look so crossed—- why didn’t you answer your phone when i called you, punk?”
donghae raises his eyebrows, too surprised to answer anything until kyuhyun scoffs and lowers his head so the scarf he’s wearing can cover a part of his face - is the younger male blushing?
“i… for fuck’s sake,” kyuhyun grumbles as he stomps all the way to where the opened window is to drag donghae over through the restricted gap so he can press their lips together, and it’s like time has frozen until they part for air.
“i threw my phone against the wall and it broke,” donghae manages to say, after minutes of staring at each other dumbly.
kyuhyun looks as though he wants to go home this second before he throws a light hit against the side of donghae’s head and said the following words with such an exasperated tone, donghae has a hard time believing him.
“i think i love you, too.”
then kyuhyun kisses him again, through the opened window before donghae can say anything stupid again.
