That sounded like a rough day, but at least it PAYS off in the end :^). Also happy birthday to your brother! I hope he has a good one! And nothing really exciting has happened recently. I mean, my friend from college is coming back for two weeks so we're going to make plans and stuff, so if that counts :P.

Avatar

*finger guns* Ayyyee, hahah! My brother said thanks for the birthday wishes and he ended up having a pretty satisfying day so !!! :D

Well that sounds nice, having your friend around for a little while! Hope whatever grand adventures you two go on will be fun!

How was your day yesterday? And I hope you have/had a good one today :)

Avatar

Hey hey! Ooh man, quite the day for those questions. :’)

Yesterday, at least for the first half of the day, was kind of shitty. I agreed to pick up a morning shift since it’ll be overtime for me and hey, overtime pay is nice. It makes it my second week in a row, so why not another 48 hours for the week? Functioning with four hours of sleep might’ve been okay, right?

Though unlike last week, we were short on staff in my department. Before the new supervisor came along to change a few policies, the short amount of staff was the norm in getting through the shift. It sucked but it worked. But with the new wave of employees not used to working effectively in our situation and me being one of the few ‘senior’ workers there to guide them, a lot of weight was pulled around to get everything done.

Things worked out in the end, but it meant staying behind an extra hour to make sure all was taken care of. The only nice thing about the morning was that the staff were more on the cool side and they tried their best. Heh, the supervisor offered me to work a double, but feeling overworked and continuing to work sounded... no. It would’ve been no bueno.

After that? My father was cool enough to make me a smoothie and I went to get pho with my friend so it ended on a good note! Yesterday was also pay day for me---an instant mood booster, I tell you.

As for today? The day just started for me and today is my brother’s birthday! So it’ll be a more pleasant day spent cooking with the family and enjoying each other’s company. Looking forward to it all! :D

How about you? Any excitement for the day or as of late?

How about your writing projects? How goes it?

Avatar

I’m also a little inconsistent with managing time and motivation, but I’ve been focusing on one project and it’s going swell! Although I haven’t put much of the actual story together, aside from writing out potential scenes I may insert into it, the outline and extra details are in major development!

I’ve put together a few OC biographies and started a separate document with character designs for the main cast so !!! I’m stoked with how things are slowly being brought to life. :D I’m hoping on getting the rest of the outline worked on soon!

Avatar

I think the PS4 is really showing it's gusto since the past E3s. The Last Guardian looks freakin' amazing though! The doggo looks super cute *0*

Avatar

I think so too! All the more tempting to get it, really. :D It’s mostly that, Overwatch, and Bloodborne that I have my eye on (and for seeing plenty of them around Tumblr). And that creature is adorable ahhhh. I love how it resembles a dog griffin!

Avatar

How's your day going/How was your day depending on when you see this? Do you play Overwatch at all?

Avatar

My day is going really well, thanks for asking! I met my uncle’s girlfriend for the first time today and we bonded over video games. A+ person. :D

I actually don’t have Overwatch, though I would love to play it when I’ll manage to get my hands on it. It looks like a lot of fun and the characters seem cool!

How about you? How is/was your day? :)

Avatar

Did you create your OCs first and revolve a world around them, or did you lay the foundation for a world then decided to fit the characters into it?

Avatar

A bit of both, depending on the idea and what inspired it! I would usually think of an OC first (the overall protagonist), give them an identity and world, develop a possible role in that world, and then invest myself into further developing it. Upon creating that world and the story, more OCs are added later on and then I try to connect all of the pieces together with their story involvement.

With Dark Hunger, the world came first and then the protagonist and supporting OCs (though the inspiration was easy to work with). With Scarred Skin, the OCs came first and their world was messed around for a while until I was satisfied with the right one.

Now that I think about it, it mostly goes protagonist–>story–>world–>character development–>supporting characters–>further story development–>outline of the overall plot. Then story guides and OC biographies if I’m in for the ride. :D

4 7 11 17 20 24 25 for Jace Miorin

4: their insecurities

Jace is really insecure with himself, be it from devising plans to thinking he’s not doing enough for others. He often overthinks things and worries for any mistake he might make, as minuscule as it might be, and so he’ll shy away from sharing his thoughts with others. Only his closest friends will hear his fears for the future and what may lie ahead for him, otherwise he buries himself in his tomes to further enhance his knowledge of, well, anything. Mistakes can cost anything, and being the cause of it can emotionally shut him down for a while.

7: how they like to dress

Normally he doesn’t dress out of his usual robe a water mage would have on, as he usually stays in a library or quiet park to study. He has a certain fondness for the water pattern on the dark blue robe, as the element itself is very calming to him. If it’s a hot day, he’ll use it as a blanket to lay on and keep a pale green undershirt on with his tan trousers and knee-high leather boots.

11: their family life

Jace grew up in the upper class of Morahda, and his family’s success pushed him to excel in the magic academy. Though his parents are strict on him, as he is the only child, and meeting their expectations drains the confidence out of him. Jace makes a fine scholar, but he never believes it is ever enough to please his family or anyone around him. He had a fond childhood with his cousin, Theo, and he hopes to reunite with him in Lavarack in the near future.

17: their ambitions

Jace’s main ambitions are to see peace brought to the kingdom and to have made some contribution to it. He looks up to the greatest water mages of the past, and even though they were known for sacrificing their lives to ensure that the mass population survived, he is willing to do the same. He is selfless, a perfect reflection of his element, and if trading himself to promise peace to all of humanity is what it’ll take, then he’ll gladly do it. Until that time comes or until his talents are needed for the greater good, Jace will continue to dig through the libraries and take in every bit of knowledge he can find.

20: their reaction to a mystery love letter

A red face and major disbelief will be the immediate reactions from him. Jace will nearly drop the letter in surprise, seeing how he’s not the most active in his social life nor is he a buff soldier or brave mage, and will wonder who would even think of liking a timid guy like him. He’ll shyly smile as he rereads the letter, thinking that if it truly wasn’t a joke, he wouldn’t mind the company of someone sharing tea and a book with him.

24: what motivates them

Mainly his comrades, Leslie and Derrick, as they are his closest friends. He sees them as the ideal soldiers, the right people that others can look up to, and the most inspiring people he feels privileged to have the friendship of. With Leslie’s talent and compassion and Derrick’s willpower, the two bring the best out of Jace, and seeing their bravery motivates Jace to also do what he can as both a soldier, water mage, and friend. And similar to his ambition, the thought of helping others through whatever means necessary further drives him to keep climbing up.

25: why you enjoy them

Jace is the adorable mage who is timid and shy, but his innocence is very enjoyable to me. He dislikes being out in the battlefield and as much as he tries to avoid any wrong confrontation, if it’ll mean benefiting others, he will try to step out of his comfort zone. His little confidence can slow him down at times, and he doesn’t give himself any credit for the things he does. But he is very honest, and if he trusts someone, he’ll gladly be there for them. Someone who deserves all the hugs in the world is how I see Jace. A pure cinnamon roll in a dark world.

How do you stay motivated when writing or trying to do any task? I've always had trouble with it and I'm trying to find/see any solutions to help me stay focused and on task.

Avatar

Ooooh, motivation is tough with me too :’) though as of lately, writing in general is coming around more easily, so here are a few things that I hope will be of some use to you!

Don’t see it as a chore to do.

I mean, if you stare at a document that’s been barely edited for a while with the intention of working on it but no desire and/or motivation for it, then it’ll stay like that. Half empty while you’ll be a little frustrated with yourself. When you want to write or work on a task, try giving it a good association. It’ll make working on it all the more desirable, even if you managed to work on it a little bit. That little bit of work will be more satisfying than working on something like you have to work on it rather than you want to. You want to get it done, or see it more complete than the previous day. Little mind over matter trick to test out!

It might help to think about the outcome of it too. Such as, “if I get this task done, it’ll be out of the way and I can do something (that I like).” Or simply that it will feel good to have it worked on and/or finished.

You can give yourself a goal as well if it’s something that can’t be finished in one day. If you don’t achieve that goal, don’t feel discouraged with yourself; every little bit of work done is still considered progress! Give yourself a pat on the back for getting farther than yesterday. c:

Use your passion as a fuel.

If you ever felt great about something, such as a piece of writing that you’re proud of finishing, wouldn’t you want to have that feeling again? Think about that satisfying feeling of something you did or wrote and use that to drive you into doing whatever task you want to do. Quite honestly, I sometimes reread an old story document I wrote almost a year ago that I’m still proud of to motivate myself into writing something new. It’s a little boost to the ego while you think, “Oh this is amazing. Who wrote that? I wrote that. Hell yeah.” Nothing like using yourself as an inspiration. :D

There’s a reason why you have a passion for the things you enjoy doing, and even if it’s a task you simply want to finish, using that feeling could further motivate yourself to getting it finished or more complete.

Write down any bit of inspiration you have.

When you’re out and about and don’t have a document open to write out that sudden zing! of inspiration, pull out your phone, snatch a paper and pen, get something to write it down. Today’s random idea could be tomorrow’s story, meaning that as obscure or out of topic that idea may be with your current writing, it’s a little boost to motivate you into writing something. Maybe that motivation can be transferred towards whatever task or writing you want to work on, and that’ll be two or more birds down with one stone!

Heh, I have little bits of scenes and dialogue saved in my phone that I have no idea how to insert into a current story document, but getting some work on them done can make a nice pick-me-up!

Do it for your OCs.

If you have any, of course, but those are your precious children that you came up with. They’re already proud of you and they’re rooting you on! Fight on for them! :D

That’s all I can mostly think of for advice, but I hope it’ll help out! Best of luck!
