I call it Living Paintings, as they are recreations of extinct animals that some artists actually saw and painted from memory, a long time ago.

OK SO a frozen baby Homotherium mummy has been found in Siberian permafrost and everybody is going nuts (including me). I had to make another installmente for this series with a figurine that has long been debated to either depict either a lion or Homotherium; Despite anatomical details pointing to the latter, there was no record of surviving Homotherium from the time the figurine was dated to have been made, so it was mostly believed to have been a cave lion. However, the frozen cub closes that temporal gap and makes it more likely that this was in fact the subject of the sculpture. So even though it’s not a painting, here it is brought to life.

Female wolf kills 17 goats after 'befriending' one of the dogs protecting the herd

A female wolf, the only one reported to inhabit Catalonia in the last 16 years, has killed seventeen goats in Cistella, north of Girona.

The farmer and landowner, Francesc Barbany, explained in an interview with RAC1 radio that the attacks began a year ago.

"We know it's the female wolf because she attacks the goats at the jugular, and we have footage of her," Barbany said.

Since the attacks began, Barbany has been forced to electrify the fence to protect the goats and put GPS collars on the more vulnerable animals.

"The wolf is smart and waits for us to corral the goats before attacking the ones left behind in the group," he added.

The female wolf, however, continues to visit the property to have "night dates" with the dog assigned to protect the goats.

"When it's dark, the wolf arrives, walks past the dog, and they quickly leave together," Barbany explained.

To put an end to the "friendship" between the dog, a Border Collie, and the wolf, Barbany is considering having the dog neutered before the wolf goes into heat.

The she-wolf is the only one living in Catalonia, and there are four other wolves, all males.

Abstract The frozen mummy of the large felid cub was found in the Upper Pleistocene permafrost on the Badyarikha River (Indigirka River basin) in the northeast of Yakutia, Russia. The study of the specimen appearance showed its significant differences from a modern lion cub of similar age (three weeks) in the unusual shape of the muzzle with a large mouth opening and small ears, the very massive neck region, the elongated forelimbs, and the dark coat color. Tomographic analysis of the mummy skull revealed the features characteristic of Machairodontinae and of the genus Homotherium. For the first time in the history of paleontology, the appearance of an extinct mammal that has no analogues in the modern fauna has been studied. I'm realizing now that I should have clarified in my original post that it's not art just from the Lord of the Rings books themselves - it's all from the MERP - the Middle Earth Role Playing game.

It was officially licensed, but expanded a lot on Tolkien's world, and often in ways that Tolkien himself wouldn't have. Basically what I'm saying is that all the women here actually are from MERP!
