Did WWE plan to cancel the mixed tag match at WM29?

E! cameras, filming the new Divas reality show just happened to be there at WrestleMania 29 when The Bella Twins, Cameron and Naomi were informed that their six-person tag match with Brodus Clay, Tensai, Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow had been cancelled. This now has led to speculation that the match was never planned for the pay-per-view in the first place and that it was a work to get some good footage for the show.

WWE ANNOUNCE NEW REALITY TV SHOW FEATURING THE DIVAS

article taken from wwe.com

The WWE Universe will get up-close and personal with the Divas like never before when E! launches a brand-new reality show highlighting the professional and personal lives of WWE’s leading ladies.

Set to debut this summer, “Total Divas” will feature an unprecedentedly in-depth look at what it means to be a WWE Diva in all senses of the word. With complete and utter access to the backstage workings of WWE, the show examines the preparation and fallout from matches, the romantic entanglements of a WWE locker room and, of course, the efforts of prospective new Divas to break through into the ranks.

The show will highlight the lives of five current WWE Divas — Natalya, The Bella Twins and The Funkadactyls.

WWE Executive Vice President of Television Production Kevin Dunn said. “There is no series on the air that can rival the charm, beauty, larger than life personalities, drama and glamour that this show will deliver.”

“Total Divas” represents an unprecedented partnership between E! and WWE, and will surely provide the WWE Universe with a no-holds-barred insight into both the lives of the Divas and WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania 29.

Layla hints at a heel turn

Layla hinted at a potential heel turn trying to get the Divas Title back in a WrestleMania Axxess interview with John Pollock of The Fight Network.

Here is what she had to say -

“I’m ready to get back on top again. Sorry, I know I’m the veteran, so, that means, girls, you know what, it’s time for the boss to take charge. No, I’m just kidding,” Layla said, before adding, “I came back (from injury) and I’ve been the nice, sweet girl. But, has it really got me anywhere?”

“I just want to say that I want my title back,” Layla said.” Can I say that? Can I actually say that? There’s nothing wrong that, right – wanting to be successful?”

Potential Diva's reality show

WWE has a new poll on their website asking fans to help name a potential reality TV show for the Divas. They wrote:

“WWE is contemplating a potential Divas reality show: It’s a new reality series following the life and times of eight WWE Divas that lets viewers into the Divas locker room, behind the scenes on the road, and inside the personal lives of some of the most glitzy, gritty and glamorous celebrities in all of entertainment. So, WWE Universe, what would you name this show?”

Beth Phoenix talks retirement, current divas division, HOF and more

Former WWE Diva Beth Phoenix was a guest on this week’s edition of Monday Night Mayhem. Here are some highlights from the interview.

Why she believes that the time was right for her to retire from the WWE: “I entered a different season in my life. I’m 32. I started wrestling when I was 19 years old, and I spent my entire adult life on the road chasing this dream, and I loved it. I absolutely loved everything I did with WWE, and I had a wonderful career with them. It’s time to check other things and experience other parts of life that you can’t when you’re ‘married to the business,’ and that’s literally what you have to do to be successful. I did so much in the way of my dream, and I certainly left no stone unturned. To chase other dreams, I kind of had to make that really tough decision to move on to the next phase of my life.”

Her favorite matches and favorite moment in her WWE career: “My favorite match would be a tie, with my match with Nattie (her last televised WWE match in her hometown of Buffalo on the September 28th edition of SmackDown) and my match with Candice at Unforgiven (2007), which was my first match for the WWE Divas Championship. My favorite moment would probably be my entrance in the Royal Rumble. It’s no secret that I’ve been influenced by Chyna. Her moment in the Royal Rumble was groundbreaking, and to be able to be the next girl to do was mind-blowing. I don’t think my heart was beating the whole time I was in the ring.”

Her thoughts on the current state of women’s wrestling and why she believes “right now is the best time to be a WWE Diva”: “Wrestling goes through seasons. Some things become trends for a while or other things become a trend or the style. When women’s wrestling got really hot, it was in a mature era where the girls could be more sexual and then be tough at the same time., so there was a lot of attention on it. It’s hard to call attention to something when you don’t have the same tools that you did. It takes a while to condition people to a different product, as opposed to what they’re used to seeing. I think right now is the best time to be a Diva. What it is about is finding out what they don’t and making yourself a commodity in that area. I think eventually you will see the standouts come to the forefront.”

Whether or not she sees a possible WWE Hall of Fame induction becoming a reality for her some day: “I think there is a long, long line of ladies and gentlemen for that matter that needs to go in there long before I’m even on the radar. It would be amazing. Would I be thrilled and would it be the most amazing thank you anyone can get? It would be amazing, but it’s not something I need in my life to feel like my career had ended or anything. I don’t need to get that awesome recognition, because I had so many great moments while I was there.”

News on The Bella Twins return

The Bella Twins returning to WWE goes back 6 or 7 weeks when officials decided they wanted more women on TV and wanted to beef the Divas division up. At first, the plan was to call up some of the Divas from NXT but that idea was nixed. Then officials decided they wanted to bring back some of the WWE Divas who had left the company recently.

It’s said that some of the Divas who recently left the company were offered more money than they were making before. Apparently some of the other Divas haven’t accepted offers yet but are in talks and may be waiting on better offers. The Bella Twins reportedly accepted WWE’s first offer. No word yet on which former Divas are in talks to return.

WWE on the search for new Divas

WWE is currently holding a “Diva Search” style training camp in Los Angeles, California, in hopes of discovering new female talent following numerous departures since last year. Bill DeMott, who serves as head trainer for WWE’s developmental program, is presiding over the camp. Ten candidates from various modeling agencies are being paid to train for several weeks and those who impress company officials will be offered developmental contracts.

WWE turning Layla heel?

WWE officials have discussed turning former WWE Divas Champion Layla heel.

On this week's Smackdown, Layla grabbed the Divas Championship and continued to stare at it before the referee handed it back to Kaitlyn.

The idea is what Layla will try and regain the title "by any means necessary".

The heel turn comes after heel divas, such as Tamina and Aksana not being over with the fans. Layla gained great heat as part of LayCool with Michelle McCool.

If Layla turns heel, the idea is that Kaitlyn will get over with the crowd in a babyface role. Officials are concerned with the lack of reaction Kaitlyn has been receiving recently, especially after her Elimination Chamber win.
