#30: “All that matters”
Summary: When a mission does more than saving people.
“Fahrkarten bitte.” asked the woman working for the train company.
Holding Mac’s hand, you showed her the train tickets, she nodded and stepped aside to let you get in.
Once you had found the seats, Mac put the suitcases in the dedicated area and sat next to you, a confused look painting his face.
“Babe, the train should have already left by now.”
You put a hand on his shoulder: “You know these are always late.”
“Don’t be so impatient lovebird, I’m sure we’ll leave soon.” The calm voice was coming from behind. You turned around and found an old lady busy knitting. “Honeymoon?” She pursued.
“Actually, First year anniversary.” Replied Mac, displaying a big smile.
“Oh I remember that time when it’s still fresh and exciting.” You furrowed your brows, half confused, half amused and looked at Mac who was conveying the same feelings.
You hadn’t even sat back in your seats that the white hair lady kept going: “What did you go for young man? A cabin in the forest or a chic hotel in town?”
“Uh cabin Ma’am.”
“Good choice, I would have loved that.” She winked at him and you had to find a tremendous strength to not burst out laughing.
“How did you know that she was the one?”
The question caught you off guard, but before you had time to worry about finding a decent answer or distract her, Mac was already replying: “I simply can’t get enough of her, even of her flaws. She’s stubborn and I like when she rolls her eyes and looks up at the ceiling when she’s trying to find a solution. ”
Your chest squeezed.
The woman carried the conversation as she adjusted her glasses: “Any special reservation?”
“If I say it now it won’t be a surprise anymore.” He brought his focus on you and a dimple appeared on his face just as the train left the platform.
“I’m going to grab a drink at the bar, do you want something?” Asked Mac.
“I’ll come with you to see what they have.” You giggled as you stood up.
“These kids.” Sighed the old lady with a cheeky smile.
Mac opened the door leading to the next compartment and you dropped his hand.
“I prefer not knowing what she thinks we’re going to do now.” You said.
“Can’t blame her. You two were pretty convincing.” Defended Bozer over the coms.
“Riley, any luck with facial recognition?” you questioned, walking through the train behind Mac, subtly eye-scanning the passengers.
“Nothing yet, working on it.” She replied.
The message notification of your phone rang briefly, but you didn’t take time to check it.
