a halloween ixi design based off the original's colors. pretty simple, but cute, i think.
purchasing gets you the fullsize, uncompressed image and a transparent version. a profile on toyhouse is also available.
i'm always drawing these guys as warmups these days
it took several different days of picking at that uni to finish it (partially because i was ill when i started it, and i don't actually enjoy using colored pencils, i just enjoy the outcome of them). luckily, getting a picture in direct sunlight helped pick up the colors, so it's almost as vibrant as it is IRL.
something that is fun for me is taking pets i never liked and trying to make them appealing to me personally in some way. just some minor tweaks here and there can make "Ugly" pets much more cute. make myncis a little less squat and a little more dynamic with more curls in the design here and there, or give poogles a droopy face that sorta reminds me of eeyore. it's little things like that. of course, if you already love them how they are, maybe it's me getting my grubby hands all over them and ruining them. i hope not! also, i know poogles don't have noses. i think it makes their design worse tbh. on their old art, there's this little scribble that looks like a tiny nose, which i thought was cute. so i gave them a nose. anyhow, besides all that, i wanted to try keeping my lineart as it is on the first pass just to see how it turns out, but unfortunately the fun part of lineart to me is making it thick and chunky. i like to linger on it. oh well. i don't think i'm ever going to get bored with drawing neopets. i'm sorry that it's all i've been drawing for months at this point. i've been really into drawing cartoony stuff in general, and these designs are Literally Perfect for that, in my opinion. it's ridiculous how fun it is to draw a silly cartoon.
adventures in messing around with colors continues, ft. shoyrus. the sad thing about the yellow shoyru is you can't see that i used gray-blue for the backlight. it just looks like pale peach. that's the sacrifice the warm filter takes. also i'm never using red to shade green again, turns that shit olive. not what i wanted. the blue one ended up looking kinda swampy which i don't mind. i used red and blue to shade, and then peach for highlights and green just to fuck around a little. i think it looks okay, if directionless. anyways, please enjoy. i'm learning a lot about color doing this, lol.
these were ko-fi requests. i'm having a lot of fun doing these!
still having fun with these.
had a big brain moment and was like "oh i can just block the base color in with markers over a pencil sketch so i don't have to spend 3 times as long coloring with just pencil (and frankly using up the pencils way faster), and this will allow me to keep the colored and fuzzy lineart, which is very visually appealing."
and so i did that.
i've been drawing nothing but neopets for 2 months sorry 😬
they're really fun to draw…. idk what to say…
i didn't color this cuz i wanted to be able to draw on the other side of the paper when i was done lol (i'm tired of colored pencils for now and want to go back to markers).
i've become somewhat obsessed with the oldest versions of some neopets' designs. i really vastly prefer the old jetsam and flotsam, as well as the old design for lenny. the updated lenny stripped it of its jester-like design elements which, imo, muddled and confused the point of its design. i liked its old jester hat and slightly curly toes, as well as its large, floppy-looking, goofy face.
also, i thought the oldest version of kacheeks was really funny. the drawing was kind of meant to be a visual joke, like, an over-rendered and uncannily shiny, but super simplified character like in ancient 3D art. but i feel like it doesn't really come through. oh well lol.
to tell you the truth, i don't really like the official art of ogrins. but i do think their design has potential (despite being somewhat wasted, lol). after all, they are a very odd and unique take on chimeras, being a cross between a goat, a tiger, and with other elements that don't have anything to do with real animals (their ears and tail make me think of fraggles).
regardless, they're really fun to draw.
this was a test drawing i did with the purpose of using glitter nail polish to see how it would look applied to a piece of art. surprisingly, not bad in photos, but obviously much more appealing irl. this would make great decorations to put on stuff like con badges. if only i ever went to cons, lmao.
sunday doodles.
