✨ (PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENT) I started this fan art about an year ago, before TMMN finale aired, hoping for a scenario like ep. 41 in the old TMM anime for Retasu’s Mew Aqua episode (BTW I still love how that episode was written in the end, her Aqua Rod scene is one of the best). But then I was overbeared with other projects, work, personal struggle and then… TMMN ended and we have no news since then, so I was too sad to continue this fanart, once filled with hope and enthusiasm.

But the other day, a dear fellow Ryoutasu shipper - with whom I shared lots of nice chat and amazing moments - saw my Arcane AU artwork and wips and commissioned me to finish this old drawing of mine straight away.

Since this was not a commission but a personal work I absolute refused to be payed, but she gave me the right motivation to finish this one. As well as ALL OF YOU: the amount of enthusiasm I received from my latest posts and artworks preview (I see you Gurple fans, I LOVE your enthusiasm as well) made me want to jump back in this world once again.

So I wanted to dedicate this artwork not only to this dear friend who supported me but also to all the people who keep support my personal project, a personal project that makes me feel happy to work and motivates me so much!

Hello there dear Anon! So sorry fort the late reply, basically i open Tumblr most of the time from the app and I haven't noticed these inbox messages until.. well, now

So, about your question... y'know it is a very interesting take on the epilogue!

Retasu working at the museum about alien civilization both suits her being so open about others, about different cultures and her desire of knowing more and more about the previous earthlings... and both Ryou's parents exactly same goal, but in a more humanistic and less scientific way.

Also it also suits so well her desire to help Ryou as well: her being in love with him will bring her not only to challenge herself and her own limits in order to help him accomplish his mission (the Mew Aqua scene for example) but will also make her discover a whole new world, the alien ones, making researches and studying the once-enemy-now-friend. Her being pen-pal with Pie is also a direct reflection on this and I fin it so cute! I am sure Pietasu shippers has been so happy about this!

But yeah, as a Ryoutasu shipper I like so much your take on her career in the study of ancient alien culture, as I said before I can totally see her and Ryou being the scientific and humanistic side of the same study and I am totally here for her being so supportive in his research and mission, as we've already seen in the anime.

I am so happy too, her "LOVE" focus it was one of the main theme of season 2 and the very core of her character development: it wasn't just a ship or something to be canon or not... it was at the service of her development, written with the specific purpose (porpoise pun intended XD) of making her GROW 💚

I loved OG anime too, SO MUCH (that underwater kissssssssss ahhh) but as a person who regret not telling the boy she liked in the past how she felt, I preferred New approach: I feel that her arc here is more mature, more interesting and her confession is really a stand out moment for her character and also for making clear how she feel for him: THAT GIRL IS IN LOVE WITH HIM YOUR HONOR!

I WILL DRAW THIS! even if it will just a sketch, it's a promise... I love this concept so much!

And even the meaning behind it: him letting himself enjoy small things and her on the other side studying the alien culture and challenge herself in a new workplace <3

Aw, dear Anon you're so sweet! I quote everything you just said: the fact that I was disappointed in how the writing went in the finale in general and both for Ryoutasu and Pietasu fans (nope, a single scene with no development is not enough), doesn't mean I am not super happy for all we got.

As you said, as Retasu fans we were fed so well (her chara arc is one of the best in New) and as Ryotasu shippers we got so much stuff to look up to, so many tender and also bittersweet moments, missing moments too, not only her falling for him - not a love at first sight but something deeper, that grew slowly when he shown kindness and his sweet and caring side to her - but him also growing more affection towards her.

And finally, as you said, her Mew Aqua scene is one of my fav and it gave us one of the best Ryoutasu moment EVER (the gif here below will express what I mean better).

p.s. do not worry, the positive attitude of most fans is the best medicine towards the toxicity of few, sadly every fandom has its toxic side, just ignora that!

As a Ryoutasu shipper, dear anon, "made for eachother" is not really the first thing that comes into my mind (also beacuse how they were written, I liked the OG anime better for how it handled the Pie and Retasu relationship), but I can totally see the beautiful potential of this ship <3

As you said... Retasu is happy, SO HAPPY, so confident, finally being herself, pursuing her own passion and we can see in the last minutes how she achieve that: thanks to her friendship with the mews she became confident, she now is enough confident and free from hate and loneliness that she even smile back at her former bullies at school.

She works at the museum cause her research with Ryou, her natural kindness towards others and her own path as a Mew made her interested and cared so much about ancient alien culture (she even wears her "date" with Ryou earrings in that particular moment).

And all this stuff lead her into trying to understand better Pie, building a bridge between their two worlds and culture... she never gave up on having a confrontation and being open with him and finally they are free to have a chat or spend time together!

As I said even though I believed that the finale lacked in giving Ryou and Retasu a proper closure and in giving Pie and Retasu a proper build up... at least in open enough to make everyone happy about their fav ship <3 more ship and more fun for everyone <3

I loved, dear anon, that in the finale we got so much hope and open doors for every potential ship, lore and future: the mews has grown so much and we got a glimpse of their own future but nothing has been written, nothing is certain so everyone is happy and free to dream the future they want <3

Finally they had a proper conversation and had build a bridge between their own confict

Unfortunately I didn't like so much how we went from the total lack of emphaty from Pie to them exchanging letters, I wanted more interaction and more lore of him at least trying to understand her.

So i loved what we got but not really HOW we got it, hoped for more dialogue and him having doubts, the original handled them better in my opinion... and I am saying this as a Ryoutasu shipper, believe me XD

yeah! this is the part I loved most about their arc in New and second season

it is not just a crush, it is also mutual affection and faith in eachother, Retasu's Mew Aqua episode has been one of my fav and had one of my fav Retasu/Ryou interaction so far <3

Retasu has always talked about the confidence Ichigo helped her growing, with all her friends too, now she also mentioned her falling for Ryou and - do not forget - having the strenght to be more open about her feelings, confessing to him

I was on holiday last week during the TMMN finale, so I hadn't the change to properly say goodbye to the second season properly; this quick sketch was done right after I saw the finale, a missing moment all the Ryoutasu fan deserved (and everyone deserved too actually, at least for the sake of the storyline as it was written since that point).

I will surely keep drawing TMM stuff and Ryoutasu (and Pietasu deheheh) art for all my fellow shippers, since TMM is my comfort and safe place and it keeps my creativity alive, helping me overcoming my worst moments and art blocks.

For now, thanks everyone for everything, it was such a nice journey, hoping for more stuff, seasons, OVA soon, and while we wait... LET'S KEEP THE FANDOM POSITIVE AND ALIVE!
