Now that I think about it, maybe the reason why Malleus' Magic is so powerful, because before he was born he was copiously sustained with powerful magicians like Meleanor, Maleficia, and Lilia.

The egg is born through love but only through magic can that egg finally hatch (that's where Lilia exhausted his magic). Maybe a fae's power is determined to how much magic can their parents "exhaust" in making them born(?).

So, essentially, His magic consists of the magic of powerful mages.

1) Meleanor (as his biological mother),

2) Maleficia (her magic was life support while he was incubated),

and 3) Lilia (who hatched him).

So when we fight Malleus, we are not just simply fighting "Malleus" himself, but rather a lethal culmination of Meleanor, Maleficia, and Lilia's raw power.

That's why it feels so impossible to defeat him because we're essentially fighting three powerful magicians at once, it's just in the form of "Malleus Draconia."

All these magicians have high-profile powerful magic, and all of them are faes too. I often assumed that Malleus was rich in magic because he's a Draconia but no, Meleanor used her full magical strength as well but the story didn't showcase her casting some world altering magic like stopping time and encasing human souls inside a magical barrier— Only Malleus did...

Maybe there's really no person who can defeat him as STYX theorizes... Not even Maleficia. While its true she's powerful, but based on this interpretation, she can fight Malleus, but fighting Malleus is also the same as fighting her magic, mixed with Meleanor's and Lilia's (and Levan's even though we don't know how powerful he is).

Levan is Malleus' father but so far the story doesn't imply nor mention any significant magical contribution he did to Malleus. The only thing mentioned in the story about Levan's influence was that Malleus is a kind/gentle person because of him.

I like to interpret he's powerful too! So maybe, its not just Meleanor, Maleficia, Lilia, but also Levan.... if he got the chance to bless Eggmalleus some magic before he lost. So its actually FIVE HIGH CLASS MAGICIANS were fighting against if we fight Malleus ☠️☠️ That's why he's truly "god-like".

I really like the fact that Malleus is undefeatable even by raw power or raw cleverness (like using technology). I know that's still going to be a big part, but its more intriguing for me to how TWST will handle stopping Malleus without obvious offense.

They'll only need to rely on one thing that humans are really great of practicing (more than faes): communication. Maybe the solution may be as simple as talking to Malleus that he needs to stop lol Because really, at this point, thats the most staple choice we have, anything else takes too much time💔😔

Not in the accusing way, but in a kind and understanding way. But, I know that's unlikely to happen knowing how "cringed" NRC is towards displaying kindness (which is often their downfall lol). But remember, the resolution at the fairy gala event? Where everyone was antagonizing the Diurnal Fairies, assuming they'll be stubborn and that they're thieves so they should take the stone without asking them, but then it turns out once they got caught and Silver talked with them apologetically and with understandingly, the Queen understood it and let the stone go...

Maybe Malleus would act like that Queen too?? After all, no one still talks with him about how "indeed, it is painful to suffer and lost, but there's merit in their existence, so we don't need to cut them out of our lives, because even those painful experiences helps us achieve our true dreams." or just a simple "You won't be alone even if Lilia passes away. I'm sure Lilia will be more happy to live his life and live it longer because he'll be remembered by Malleus even if he's just a memory now." or maybe a blunt "The world doesn't revolve around anyone, so Malleus has no rights to dictate how we should live our lives" lol

I feel like Malleus is just a person who never really thinks about other interpretations unless its been said to him... That's why I'm wishing that Book 7 resolves his overblot by not fully painting him as a "catastrophic dark fae" (like what the humans viewed Meleanor), like there'll be a balance between depicting him as a villain but also as a flawed person.

But yes I do agree that the biggest hurdle in defeating Malleus, may not just be his overpowered magic, but also his defiance in believing that he can understand humanity and humanity will understand him 😭😭

The Escape Plan

author note: back by popular demand (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ i swear, when light fae reader and Malleus are together, they actually have negative amount of brain cells. Also, extremely indulgent but necessary Diasomnia family moment, featuring little Silver and Sebek (*≧ω≦*) so far most of my stories have taken place either at NRC or just before they attend, so this was a nice change of pace.

characters: Malleus Draconia x F!Light Fae Reader

Left. Left. Straight. Right. Down the stairs. Straight. Right… And dead end.

You grumbled in frustration as you scribbled down the failed route for the umpteenth time in your journal. You pouted up at the cold stone wall, as if it would feel your ire and open a path up for you out of shame. You flipped back through the pages of your journal, your pout only intensifying as you saw your scribbles over your past failed attempts to escape this place.

You had been residing in Briar Castle ever since the odd fae with the horns had whisked you away here. Not through choice, of course. Every free moment you had, you’d been trying to find a route out of this castle and back to your cottage. Being entirely unaware of your location and surroundings, you couldn’t take the easy way out and simply teleport home. But that wouldn’t stop you, you’d walk all the way home if you had to!

Your arrival in Briar Valley had caused quite a scene. It appeared that many of these fae felt the same way as the horned one, that because you were a light fae, you needed to be protected. Your protests fell on deaf ears, and the Queen had decreed that you could stay in this place until they discovered your origins. You’ve never regretted a sarcastic comment more in your life, with the mess it’s gotten you into. It also didn’t help that the horned one turned out to be the Crown Prince of this kingdom.

You huffed at the thought as you begun retracing your steps, flipping through the pages of your journal, one you’d started since you arrived here. It contained every route you’d attempted to try to leave the castle, as well as thoughts you’d jotted down and little sketches of castle scenery that had stuck with you. One particular page, towards the front of the journal, contained sketches of several faces with notes framed next to each one. You hummed, looking over the information, wondering if you had anything new to add. Maybe making the horned ones sketch look more unsavoury would satisfy you…

“Is that supposed to be me?”

You almost jumped straight out of your skin, slamming your journal shut with a sharp slap of the pages before looking around in alarm. Of course, you should have known. Hanging upside down from the rafters with a devilish smile on his face was the horned one’s caretaker, Lilia. You put your hands on your hips and glared at him unabashed, “get down from there! You’re too long for such behaviours, what would your son think?”

Lilia’s ruby eyes glittered, any mention of his son always bringing a fond shine to his otherwise sharp eyes. “He quite likes it, actually,” Lilia commented as he swooped down from the rafters, falling easily in step with you, “how is the escape going?”

You huffed and stuck your nose in the air, he knew exactly how it was going! “None of your business.” You replied curtly, although your growing pout undermined your position. Lilia only laughed at your disposition, before holding out an arm to stop you, “Well, are you done pathfinding for the day? I’ve come to collect you for dinner.”

You froze, giving Lilia a wary look, “dinner with you? I don’t quite feel like taking my life in my own hands tonight.” Lilia’s grin only widened at your words, holding his arm out to you with a dramatic flourish for you to take, “unfortunately, I am not in charge of the food for tonight. Besides, we’ve got some little guests who’d be delighted to see you.”

Well, when he puts it like that…

You sighed, “well, I suppose…” You tucked your hand into his arm and before you knew it, he’d teleported you both to a different part of the castle. The room you appeared in was smaller than most of the rooms you had dined in previously, more of an intimate setting. A cozy room, mostly dominated with a table that held five place settings, and a crackling fireplace adding a warm glow to the area.

You let go of Lilia’s arm once you orientated yourself, and he strode forward with a sigh. “Now where has Malleus gone? I told him to wait here. Searching for you two in this castle is aging me, you know,” Lilia complained, but with no bite to his words, “you wait here, my dear. Hopefully this won’t take long…” With that, he strode out of the room without even a glance back.

You sighed, deciding to take a seat at the table whilst you waited. You flipped open your journal again, finding the profiles page again and wondering if you should add Lilia’s apparent rapid aging into the notes. You didn’t have much time to ponder it, however, as the sound of little footsteps running down the corridor met your ears, before the door burst open.

“F/N!”

A small boy with fluffy silver hair made a beeline as soon as he saw you, and you couldn’t resist the urge to pull the boy into your lap, giving him a soft squeeze, “hello Silver. My, you’ve grown again, haven’t you?” You smoothed down some of his unruly locks from his run here, which proved fruitless when he nodded his head proudly at your words.

“I’ve grown 6 whole centimetres since I saw you last!” Silver informed you excitedly, and you exclaimed at his words. Humans really did grow as quickly as Lilia had described. “Wow, you’ll be taller than me soon.” Silver seemed encouraged by your words, flexing his little arms as if he was trying to show off his strength, “I can protect you better if I am bigger!”

How sweet. You ruffled his hair at his words, ruining your own previous handiwork but not really caring. You opened your mouth to respond, only to be interrupted by a disruption in the corridor.

“SILVER!!”

Both you and Silver exchanged a wide eyed look, fully aware of what was about to come bursting through that door.

“SILVER, HOW DARE YOU RUN–” The lime green boy came bursting through the door, his booming voice doing more than enough to announce his presence. However, clearly he was not expecting you, as his jaw immediately dropped when he laid eyes on you, pink beginning to dust his cheeks. Nevertheless, ever adaptable, Sebek balled his hands into fists and projected his embarrassment right at Silver instead.

“SILVER! HOW DARE YOU CLIMB UPON PRINCESS F/N! CEASE AT ONCE!”

The little green haired boy always brought a smile to your face, acting and speaking like an adult even though he was practically considered still in his infancy in fae eyes.

“Now, now Sebek, none of that. I told you just to call me F/N,” you scolded gently, before gesturing him over. Sebek approached almost meekly, and you scooped him up onto your lap next to Silver once he got close enough, watching as the pink on his cheeks bloomed into a fiery red, his hands fisting into his lap.

You curled your arms around both of the boys, resting your chin on Sebek’s head as you listened to him announce that he had grown 8 centimetres since you’d last seen him, and how he was definitely excelling in his training with Master Lilia. You exclaimed in acknowledgment and Sebek preened at the praise, holding his head up high and almost knocking you in the process. Soon, both Silver and Sebek were clamouring to tell you their achievements, beginning to bicker with each other in the process.

“Ah good! You’re all here! No more people to find.”

You looked up to see Lilia marching back into the room, with Malleus trailing behind him, wearing a pleased smile. You couldn’t help but narrow your eyes a little, always feeling a certain kind of bitterness whenever you saw Malleus. You didn’t have long to dwell on it, however, as you almost found yourself elbowed by a very excited Sebek.

“WAKA-SAMA!!”

Sebek squirmed himself off of your lap to rush forward and attempt to prostrate himself before Malleus, Silver clinging onto you during the ruckus to make sure he wasn’t sent flying. Sebek was stopped by a firm hand from Lilia on his shoulder, “Come on Sebek, dinner is waiting. It’ll spoil if we loiter any longer. To your seats, the both of you.” Silver reluctantly slid off of your lap to take a seat at the opposite side of the table along with Sebek, who had his hair ruffled by Malleus as he passed. You expected Malleus to take the seat at the head of the table, but instead he approached the seat beside you and slid into it. Lilia tittered at the sight, as he made his move to the only free chair, “how kind of you to offer me the head chair, Malleus.”

You scowled at that, and that only caused Lilia to laugh some more, as the first course materialised in front of you all. Silence fell around the table, only the clanking of cutlery against plates.

“So,” Lilia started, with a smile that promised chaos blooming across his lips, “how are your escape attempts going, F/N? You never did say.” You shot him another glare, knowing exactly what he was trying to achieve and of course he was successful in it with the pandemonium that erupted around the table.

“You’re trying to escape?” Asked Malleus, his eyes widened in shock at this revelation, whilst Silver and Sebek sounded their own complaints across the table. “It’s true, she has it written all in her journal.” Lilia continued, and you quickly snatched your journal off of the table, sitting on top of it to keep it out of anyone’s reach. You ignored Malleus, leaning forward and offering a placating smile to the children, “Lilia is just teasing. I enjoy exploring the castle, is all.”

“I see…” Malleus hummed, before nodding, “then I shall take you on a tour of the castle.”

“What a lovely idea, Malleus!” Lilia cut in before you could turn him down, that same chaotic smile on his lips, “why not after dinner? It would be good exercise after a meal.” Before you know it, you found yourself signed up to an evening tour with Malleus, and could only glower at a smug Lilia in return.

After dinner, Lilia used the convenient excuse of taking the children home and to bed to escape before you could protest, although it took him some effort to get Sebek to follow along, who was insistent on coming along for Malleus’ castle tour. You sent both Silver and Sebek home with a kiss to the forehead, the latter’s cheeks blooming pink again and offering you an amusingly formal salute before his departure. Sooner than you would have liked, you were alone with Malleus. With no children around, you openly scowled at him, crossing your arms.

“You have some nerve! Offering me a tour of the castle when you’ve been avoiding me this whole time!” You rebuked, your scowl only deepening at the return of his surprised expression.

“But you said you enjoyed exploring the castle. A tour would enable you to see some beautiful spots.” Malleus reasoned, finding your flits in mood very difficult to keep up with. You, meanwhile, wanted to smack your palm to your forehead, for you found him impossible.

Before you could retort, Malleus had already turned and walked out the door, and you were left to chase after him. “Hey!” Grumbling about his behaviour, you fell into step next to him, with much struggle, “do you mind? We aren’t all gigantic, you know!”

“Oh. My apologies.” Malleus slowed his gait so you could walk beside him comfortably, a small smile crawling across his lips, “I’ve learned in my research that light fae are more diminutive than dark fae, I should have been more considerate.”

You bristled at his words, why did most things that came from his mouth appear so insulting?! “Excuse me?! I am not diminutive!” You hissed, with Malleus barely batting an eye, “I didn’t mean it as an insult, I find it cute.” Malleus replied honestly, continuing to lead the way.

“I have been deep in research about your kind, so I have been largely unavailable,” Malleus went on, oblivious to the astonished look you gave him, “I apologise. I hope you haven’t been lonely.” Malleus would feel no end of guilt if you’d become lonely due to his negligence, “I will rectify this, I will make time for you from now onward. It is unacceptable for me to have brought you here and left you unattended.”

Curse this fae and his ability to make you dumbfounded.

“Yes, yes!” You clung to whatever statement you could, “it is unacceptable that you brought me here! Ergo, you should take me back to the glade, and we can forget this ever happened.”

Malleus frowned at your words and shook his head, “But this is the safest place for you. Taking you back to the glade would put you in an immeasurable amount of danger.”

“I live by that glade! It’s never been dangerous for me!” You huffed out in frustration, wanting to shake the man by his horns again, “look, I’m not a princess! I was– I was making fun of you when I said that! Because you said you were a dragon and, lets be honest, that’s ridiculous so–”

“But I am a dragon. A dragon fae.” Malleus corrected, his frown only deepening. “And mine and Lilia’s research has uncovered that there were potentially questionable movements amongst the light fae royalty during a certain period of the war. This information could very much reveal what happened to the light fae, where they disappeared to.” Malleus stated his research leisurely to you as if you were having an honest debate about it rather than arguing with him.

“But dragons are no– wait, really?” He truly had been researching into your kind with a view to sending you back, like he said he would? That was surprising… You were convinced that was just an elaborate scheme he had created to placate you whilst he kept you here indefinitely.

“Yes. The light fae were peaceful during the war, but that did not stop them being the target of hunters,” Malleus’ tone took on a sorrowful edge, “finding reliable information on light fae is difficult normally, but locating such specific information has proven even more arduous than expected.”

With all your bickering and conversation, you’d completely forgotten that you were actually supposed to be touring the castle with Malleus. You were walking up another staircase when he pushed open a door, only for you to feel a breeze hit your cheeks.

“This is one of my favourite places to come in the castle.” Malleus held the door open for you as you stepped through the doorway, greeted by the cool night breeze, now standing on one of the castle’s large balconies. Your mouth fell open with awe, the balcony giving you the perfect view of the town below, illuminated in the darkness by dots of green flames. When you looked up, you were greeted by a perfectly clear night sky, decorated with endless amounts of twinkling stars. You found yourself breathless, silence stretching between you and Malleus as you took in your beautiful surroundings.

A thought did nag at the back of your brain however, slightly ruining the dazzling scenery before you. You were now outside! And the balcony railing wasn’t very high! Perhaps once you were alone, you could jump from here and float down. No point doing it now, Malleus would more than likely pursue you, you think you could remember him saying something about having wings, that did make sense with him being a fae after all…

You cursed internally, suddenly realising that you’d left your journal on your chair in the dining hall. Now you had no way of writing down the directions to this place. Perhaps on your way back down, you could memorise the route and write it down later… You were so deep in thought, that you didn’t even notice that Malleus had arrived beside you.

“Your wings look so beautiful in the moonlight… As if they absorb the very rays of the moon… How intriguing…” Malleus muttered softly, a hand reaching out for your wings. You jumped at his sudden voice, and frowned at the sight of his hand coming towards you. “Hey! I told you about this, you can’t just touch someone’s wings!”

Malleus blinked at you, looking fairly taken aback at your scolding of him. His eyes clouded in thought, his hand pulling back to press against his chin in thought. After a moment spent awkwardly in silence, to which you eyed him warily, Malleus simply nodded… Before beginning to undo the belt at his waist.

“… W-what are you doing?” You stuttered in alarm, your eyes blowing wide. At this point, you felt that his behaviour shouldn’t alarm you as much as it did, that you should be more used to it, but he always seemed to pull of another bizarre action that’d leave you speechless.

“I realise I have committed quite the error. Whilst I have been able to appreciate your wings on more than one occasion, I have not given you the opportunity to appreciate mine. I will rectify that now.” As he spoke, Malleus had already removed his coat, folding it over the balcony rail as his hands moved to begin on his robes next.

“I hardly thinks that’s appropriate! M-malleus, stop!” Your cheeks turned bright pink. How would you explain to anyone that the Crown Prince was stripping a mere foot in front of you, outside no less?! If someone happened upon you, you’d be executed on the spot! Or worse, Lilia would witness it and never let it go. “Malleus, put your clothes back on!” You hissed, trying to keep your voice down.

“It’ll take but a moment, please be patient.” Malleus continued to unravel his robes, not the least bit perturbed by your protests, and you ended up burying your face in your hands, not sure whose modesty you were protecting - his or your own.

“I am ready now, Princess. You may look.” You heard Malleus say, but you shook your head wildly, still covering your face with your hands, “I shan’t!” Silence stretched between you, before you heard him taking a step towards you, closing the gap between you in one. “Please don’t be afraid. I don’t want you to be frightened of me.”

Before you could open your mouth to retort, you felt a hand on your shoulder, holding you still before another hand wrapped gently around one of your wrists, tugging softly but firmly to coax it away from your face. You relented, but simply moving your remaining hand across your eyes, keeping them squeezed shut. You could only dread what he planned to do with your hand. He pulled your hand forward slowly, and you found yourself attempting to shrink back, but Malleus’ grip on you was strong, his hand on your shoulder giving you what you assumed was supposed to be a soothing squeeze.

Eventually your hand came in contact with something… Leathery? Oh, had he put his clothes back on? Well, good. Slowly, you moved your free hand from your eyes and opened them… Only to find most of your vision dominated by huge black… Wings?

“Oh. Oh! Are those your…?” You gripped it tentatively between your fingers, rubbing gently to get a feel for the strange texture. It felt smooth, but strong. If he flexed them, he could probably send you flying. “It’s… Very big.”

“Do you think so?”

“Mhmm… Are you sure you are actually a fae? These look nothing like mine…” Despite your words, you couldn’t help yourself from admiring them, they were quite wonderful in their peculiarity. Malleus was more than happy to allow you to survey him, his wings drawn around him so that you could reach them easily.

“These wings are common for dragon fae.” Malleus replied and you scoffed, biting your tongue only so you didn’t reignite your constant argument that dragons aren’t real, “right… Is that why you keep them hidden? They do seem quite bulky…”

“Hm, well my more draconic features tend to manifest more during certain periods, usually for convenience I’ll keep them hidden. But my wings are surprisingly lightweight. Here, let me show you.”

You wanted to enquire more about what he meant about certain periods, but you were distracted by the gust of wind that was brought around as he unfurled his wings from around himself, flexing them wide and proud for you to see. And what a sight it was. His wingspan was impressive, practically blocking out the sky behind him, and despite the size of them, he manoeuvred them with ease and dexterity. You were actually quite impressed…

… Until you realised his entire chest was bare.

Malleus!” You squeaked, so distracted by his wings that you hadn’t registered that you were practically eye level with his naked chest, a very nice naked chest, thankfully his robes tied at the hips at least, “put your clothes back on!” You tried to step back, but his grip on your shoulder held fast.

“But I needed to undress to show you my wings,” Malleus stated, a frown marring his features. Suddenly, his hand that had gripped your shoulder moved to softly grab your chin, tipping it up so he could scrutinise your face, “Are you well? You are flushed.”

You hadn’t realised your cheeks had grown red at Malleus’ state of undress, and him grabbing your chin in a surprisingly tender gesture wasn’t helping. You felt more blood rush to your cheeks, and you tried to stutter out a response before Malleus released both your wrist and chin, reaching instead for his coat.

“Hm, it won’t do for you to become ill. Allow me.” Before you knew it, Malleus had draped his coat over your shoulders, and you imagined it must have looked comical hanging off of your wings, but the size of it still managed to cover over you appropriately. “Putting your clothes on didn’t mean for you to put them on me!” You protested, burying your face into the overlong sleeves at your hands,  equal parts embarrassed and distraught at the other fae’s actions. Perhaps if you hid your face for long enough, he’d take the hint and redress himself. Hm, his coat did smell nice, though…

“I have a request to make of you.” Malleus added, continuing on the conversation as usual, as if you weren’t flustered by his current state, “actually, both me and Lilia had discussed that this could lead to us uncovering promising information regarding your origins.” He explained, seeming to derive contentment from discussing his research with you, “with your permission, we would like you to take us to your previous abode.”

Your head snapped up, eyes wide at this sudden request. Go home? They wanted to go to your home? Your brain went blank, entirely taken off guard by this information. Malleus must have saw some hesitance in your eyes, so he continued on,

“Finding information regarding the light fae has been notoriously difficult. Currently, our best lead would be to seek out the last known residence of a light fae… Which would be you.”

If you allowed them to visit your home, that would mean you would get to go home… And once there, you could just refuse to go back with them! This might be your best chance to finally get home… Sure, you could wait until you were alone and jump from the balcony, but there was every chance Malleus or even Lilia would follow after you once they discovered you missing, out of this absurd misguided obsession for your safety…

Seeing the continued hesitancy in your eyes, Malleus leaned closer to you, wanting to assure you of his genuineness, “it is not our intention to disturb your memories, we want to help.”

You startled at his sudden closeness again, his form almost boxing you in with his posture. You felt fresh redness flush over your cheeks, and you were thankful that you were still covering half of your face with the oversized sleeves of his coat, “if I say yes, would you finally put some clothes on?!” You tried to sound outraged, but your voice ended up coming out high pitched and flustered.

“If that is what you desire, I can comply with that.” Malleus nodded, although thinking what strange bargains the light fae made, so mild in it’s demand, “however, please do keep my coat, it looks quite charming upon you.”

You huffed in exasperation, closing your eyes and shaking your head at his behaviour. Ironic that this fae was so keen on discovering the light fae and keeping you safe when you were sure he’d be the death of you. “Fine, fine! I’ll take you to my home. So please, put some clothes on before someone finds you like this!”

And with that, your escape route was ensured…

MELLEUS WITH A LIGHT FEMALE FEA READER LIKE ITS RARE AND A LIGHT FAE WHO NEVER SAW A DARK FAE AND A DARK FAE WHO NEVER SAW A LIGHT FAE

VSISBSLAKVAJKA HAHAHHA

author note: i had lots of fun writing this. Malleus does not understand sarcasm and reader is not much better (¯▿¯) this went in a completely different direction than i was expecting, but as usual inspiration struck during writing! Also, my first ever request! Thank you so much!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

characters: Malleus x F!Light Fae Reader

Grandma always told you to be careful when you left the cottage. Not to stray too far, because you could never be too sure about what you would encounter, or what would encounter you. "Fae like us are rare in this world, and you can't rely on everyone to be understanding." you remember your grandma warning you often.

Usually, you would never venture out at night. But tonight, the lanterns in your cottage had gone out, so no time like the present to go fetch some fresh lanternblossoms to refill them, right? They were easier to locate at night, after all, so if you were quick, you could be back within the hour. You grabbed your basket, and headed out.

With an iridescent flash, you teleported into the nearby glade and took a cursory look around. Perfect! Not a soul in sight. Humming a soft tune to yourself and swinging your basket, you began your search for lanternblossoms.

A bright flash of light filtering through the trees broke Malleus out of his thoughts, and he frowned. Perhaps this area was not as abandoned as he first thought. How bothersome. He trailed through the trees, in the direction of the light, a hand travelling across old bark as he journeyed. Perhaps it was a phenomena of this old forest that caused the glow, and not a soul instead.

And what a phenomena it was.

As Malleus made his way through the trees, his sharp ears picked up a soft song coming from the glade in front, a beautiful sound that attracted him like a moth to a flame. Or a dragon to a shining treasure...

Malleus broke through the trees silently, and the sight that greeted him was one he'd never imagined. It was as if a scene had sprung itself from a story book, or a history book even. The song that was floating from the glade was coming from a slight, frail looking creature, crouched among the undergrowth, a basket heaving with glowing blossoms resting by her side. But what surprised him were the enchanting, gossamer wings that sprouted from your back, shining in the darkness of the night. They were like nothing he had ever seen before, and before he knew it, he had already teleported to get a closer look.

You felt the intrusion before you saw it. A gentle but inquisitive rub at the tip of your wings startled you, and your head whipped back to see an imposing figure behind you. You hadn't even heard anything, how did he get right behind you?! On reflex, you slapped the hand away and stumbled to your feet, knocking your basket over in the process. You whirled around, hands on your hips and glared at the crude intruder, "you can't just touch someone without their permission! Especially something as personal as their wings! Have you no shame?!"

The tall, horned stranger regarded you with wonder, his eyes constantly flickering from your face to your wings in unhidden intrigue, "I've never seen a fae with wings like yours before," he stated, "how curious..." he muttered, and again he reached out a hand to touch your wings. Instinctively you leaned away and batted at his hand in an attempt to keep him at bay.

"H-hello!? Did you hear a word I just said to you? How would you like it if I just grabbed at you? In fact, why don't I just..." You planted your feet and leaped, pushing enough power in your legs to propel yourself high enough to grab a hold of one of the stranger's horns. What you wasn't expecting was for an arm to curl around your waist and keep you held aloft, using the opportunity to inspect your wings at this closer distance.

"Fascinating..." he breathed into your ear, entirely unbothered by your hand on his horn as his free hand came up to ghost along the edge of one of your wings and you couldn't help but flutter them at the contact. You gawked at the unabashed nature of this man and for a moment, you were unsure about what to do. But then you got a hold of yourself and begun to kick your legs and tug at his horn, "put me down, you brute!"

Malleus' lips downturned in dismay as your struggling disturbed his admiration of your wings but he did not let you go. Instead, he turned his face towards yours, uncomfortably close, and gazed at you, "would it put you at ease to see my wings as well?"

"... What? No! Why would I-- Put me down! And why aren't you scared of me?!" You hissed, renewing your struggling with vigour until eventually, the horned stranger lowered you until your feet touched the ground. Once you'd gotten your footing, you quickly let go of his horn and took a step back. Irritatingly, the stranger was still giving you a rather curious look.

"Scared? Why would I be afraid?" Malleus questioned, suddenly feeling rather taken aback. Usually, most were scared of him, not the other way around. What a curious little creature he had happened upon...

You folded your arms across your chest, puffing out your cheeks a little, “Grandma always told me that light fae are extremely feared by others, especially humans, so I should be careful, in case I startle anyone with my ominous presence!” Your own words ended up making you frown, “but you don’t seem very startled at all, just who are you?”

Malleus’ eyes widened in surprise at your words. A light fae? He had only read about them in old tomes hidden away in towards the back of the castle’s library. Even then, the tomes only ever had descriptions, no photos or depictions of light fae in them. There has not been any light fae sightings in over a century, to the extent that it was now rumoured that the light fae were extinct. Does this mean they were all hiding? If so, what were they hiding from?

You could feel the heat of the horned stranger’s gaze on you as he observed you, it seemed every word you spoke to him only enflamed his curiosity of you more. You puffed out your cheeks more, confused at his apparent lack of fear and you scowled more, trying to appear at least a little intimidating, “Hey! I asked you a question!”

Malleus blinked, before he held an inquisitive hand to his chin, his head tilted, “I am also fae, but not the same origin as you... I suppose specifically, as you are a light fae, I would be regarded as a dark fae.” You stared open mouthed at him for a moment, before you snorted at him in disbelief.

“Is that supposed to be a ruse? Everyone knows that dark fae aren’t real!” A laugh bubbled out of your chest, and Malleus couldn’t help but think that it was the sweetest sound, even though you were technically laughing at him. Either way, now it was his turn to frown, hands on his hips as he stared you down.

“Are you quite well? It is common knowledge that dark fae are descendent from the Thorn Fairy, one of the Great Seven,” Malleus retorted, “it is also common knowledge that Briar Valley is the realm of the dark fae.”

You laughed a little more, but it slowly died in your throat as you saw how serious he was. “Well, I’ve never heard of this ‘Briar Valley’, and the only things I’ve heard about dark fae are from bedtime stories from my grandma.” You found yourself mimicking his posture, hands on your hips stubbornly as you returned his frown, “besides, you have horns! What kind of fae has horns?”

“A dragon fae.” He answered immediately, his expression morphing more to offense at your words, but mostly he was confused by your odd behaviour. Believing light fae, the more humanly accepted type of fae, to be considered terrifying by others? Believing dark fae don’t exist and having no knowledge of Briar Valley? How peculiar you were. You acted like you were from a different world altogether.

You let out another unbelieving laugh, dropping your hands from your hips, “riiight... This is the part where you tell me dragons are real too, yeah? If you are a dragon, then I’m a lost princess.” You turned away, stepping back towards your basket and missing the stunned expression he gave you as you began gathering your blossoms back into the basket, “I guess people like you were why grandma never wanted me to leave the house.”

Malleus stared on at you in shock. A light fae princess? That would make sense why you were so unaware of the world around you. Perhaps the light fae had hidden you away for your own safety? The world during the war had been a dangerous place, after all. This grandma who kept you inside must have done so with the intention of protecting the royal lineage. Then why were you now outside, alone? Unaccompanied? He knew himself that royalty rarely get a moment alone, constantly trailed after by guards... What if you were in danger?

You finished gathering up the last of your fallen lanternblossoms, pushing the basket up into the crook of your arm, “well, as lovely as it was to meet you, I’ll be goin--”

“Come with me.”

You gawked at him. This man had a talent for consistently shocking you with the outrageous things that came out of his mouth. When you thought he honestly couldn’t surprise you any more, he’d suddenly say something equally or more bizarre. “Uh... I don’t think--”

Malleus’ expression was soft all of a sudden, sympathetic, “it is not safe for you to be here alone. I will take you to Briar Valley and we will find a way to return you safely to your kingdom.” Malleus felt sorry for you. It must be frightening, alone and separated from your kin, confused by the world. With the rarity of the light fae, it would be a sin to allow royalty, perhaps the last remaining of the light fae, to continue wandering alone. To Malleus, your safety was now paramount. He was sure Lilia would know what to do.

“I- What? Look, I think you’ve got the wrong ide--” You started to say but clearly the horned stranger’s words were not a request, as he reached out and grabbed hold of your wrist. Before you could even finish your retort, a green flash enveloped you both and you felt weightless. Magic. You didn’t get a moment to react, to even gasp, before the scenery around you drastically changed.

No longer were you in the glade by your home. You stood much higher up now, amongst steep, craggy mountains and a dark, almost oppressive scenery. But none of that compared to the sight before you. A castle larger than you had ever seen sat nestled between the mountains, with high pointed spires and gleaming green flames lighting the grand, arched windows. And just like the bedtime stories that your grandma used to tell you, the entire castle was surrounded in verdant, biting thorns. Your jaw hung open, your mind unable to comprehend the sight before you and what was happening.

The horned stranger released your wrist and took a step towards the castle, observing the shock on your features before gesturing towards the castle with an elegant sweep of his arm.

“Welcome to the Valley of Thorns, Princess.”

Prompt: The story about a prince and a traveller <3
Pairing: Malleus x Gn!Reader (Yuu)
Genre: Slight angst (?), Fluff I dunno
TW: Uh, although this is GN! Reader, the reader or Prefect or Yuu is referred to as "Mama" at one point in this. It is meant to be a gender neutral form of address (but if there is another form of address that is more fitting in the scenario please let me know), minor character death, heavily based on Orpheus and Eurydice's story.
AN: Not really happy with the ending of this, but its been in my drafts for far too long. It would have been more angsty, but my sister (who I usually make read my fics to check if it sounds coherent and/or is good) as well as my friends who I showed the initial draft to said that it would be too cruel and that I should make it a happy ending so here we are! Hope you enjoy!

One upon a time, there used to live a prince.

The prince was the heir of a prosperous kingdom. His wise eyes looked over his subjects with the love of a friend and the vigilance of a father. All he ever wanted was for his kingdom to flourish and grow, for his people to live happy lives. And he worked hard to ensure their protection, so that they may spread their wings under his watchful gaze and soar to new heights, bringing honor and prestige to their kingdom. In turn, the people of the kingdom loved and respected him, singing his praises to the birds in the sky and the flowers blooming in the soil. There was no one in the kingdom who would speak ill of their prince, for he was beloved by all.

But, the prince was lonely. He had loving friends to lean on, and trusted elders to learn from, but his heart yearned for that one person who would transform his happy yet monotonous days into pure bliss. His one true love.

And how fortunate was he to find it, in the most unexpected of places, at the most unassuming of times.

The Vizier's Diamond in the Rough

In which you transmigrate in time into the past after you receive an enchantment wrist bangle. But the thing is, it was also the era where the notorious schemer ruled the kingdom by hypnotizing the Sultan.
Warning: gn reader. Pharaoh's concubine reference but Aladdin setting (younger jafar and the sultan) Head taller Jamil. Different story plot soon after.
(Really recommend Pharaoh's concubine.)

The wrist bangle was given to you by your brother as a gift. Your birthday was several days ahead, yet that didn't stop him from giving it to you early. Despite living in another country for work, he always makes sure to have time with you.

You opened it on the day of your birthday and carefully unwrapped the delicate ribbon under your hands. To your utter astonishment, your brother gifted you the most sought-after jewelry that was worth thousands at auction. You were perplexed by the precious gift your brother had given you and didn't know what to do. Your were greatful yet at the time, it felt overwhelming to receive it. You called your brother and was relief when he pick up after quite sometime.

"Happy birthday, dear sister. What brings your attention to call me? Shouldn't you be enjoying the time of your birthday?" You knew by the sound of his voice that he exactly knew why you called. "Oh, did you open mine? If so, was the jewelry to your liking?" he continued.

For a moment, you felt like you lived a millionaire's life despite being a middle-class citizen and a student at that.

"The jewelry was exquisite, it puts me beyond words for how much of an invaluable gift you have given me, dear brother. Not! How many times do I have to tell you I don't need expensive stuff." You huff as you admire the bangle snake design in hand despite your defiance short ago. It had diamonds on the side, and you didn't question their worth; what caught you more was the ruby that lay as the eyes of the golden snake.

In the middle of conversation, you place the dangle on your wrist, and to your surprise and horror, it glows brightly, making you turn your head away. Your wrist felt warmer, and even your closed eyes didn't help the brightness that surrounded you, and you blackened.

You woke up to the sensation of someone's hand shaking you. You didn't realize you were sleeping until someone who was unknown to you kept calling you. From your blurry eyes, you notice a woman with an unusual outfit, speaking a language that you knew you couldn't understand, but you did. Confused, you tried to speak, but the rasp in your voice stopped you. The lady brought out a glass of water and gave it to you. You mouthed a thank you and gulped down the remnants of the water.

"Young lady, what are you doing in the middle of the dessert?"

"I was?" You didn't know, the last memory you remember was your room. So how?

"Yes, I had help with a young man who was a gentleman who carried you here. He was quite a handsome man, young lady." You frowned and ignored her last words in favor of worrying for your brother, who was on the call when it happened. Has it already been a few days? Weeks?

"Can I ask, where am I?"

"You can. We are in the Kingdom of Agrabah, and Oh! My Apologies! Would you be alright if I leave you here whilst I work in the palace? You can stay here for as long as you wish." For a moment, you felt your world drop as she uttered her words and momentarily had a dilemma. You didn't know what to do; after all, how did you appear here?

Your eyes fell onto your wrist, and you saw you were still wearing the dangle. Remembering it shone before it took you here, you tried to take it off but to no avail. Taking one last look at the culprit, you turn your head towards her and remember you still haven't answered.

"Oh no, no, I couldn't do that. Let me join you, please. I could help you in some way, er-do you mind?" The kingdom existed hundreds of years ago and only made it into the history books. You couldn't stay at her abode for fear of potential danger because this town was filled with thieves according to history, and you also didn't want to stay longer than you should have. You also wanted to know someone in this era to help you adjust to this place for some time. With that in mind, you were determined to accompany her.

"I don't mind, but you should rest and stay the night. Tomorrow you can help, but for now, rest for all you need."

You sigh in relief, despite having to stay for the night, it was enough for you. You nodded before she left the room, and your expression dropped soon after she left. You looked out the window beside you with different emotions. Whatever shall you do?

The next day, entering the palace was an easy feat. Some guards didn't bat an eye as the two of you passed, and soon enough you were led to the kitchen, where people were tirelessly working. The workers were in sync as they passed the plates to each other while they moved side by side. You were confused as to what to do before the lady who accompanied you motioned for you to get closer and whispered something in your ear before tilting her head in another direction. You recognized the stack of white linens, and you knew you had to wash them judging from the stains that were hiding beneath.

She muttered a thank you and went along with her chores, as did you. It was quite heavier than it looks, yet you didn't give up and continued. You were glad the corridor leading to another side didn't have people passing by, but you wondered if you moved on the right way. You forgot to ask the lady, but you were too afraid to head back now. With a downcast expression, you didn't realize you bumped into someone until you took a step back from the force and almost fell down.

You quickly muttered an apology and moved to the side to get a clearer view. Your heart drops as you notice the garments that are often mentioned in the history of a certain royal vizier. Black clothing with a red cape, the snake design staff with red rubies, and black hair—you felt stupid for not thinking he couldn't appear before you.

Jamil Viper is the vizier of the kingdom of Agrabah and the right-hand man of Kalim al-Asim, the current sultan.

He brushes the dust off his shoulder, and much to your dismay, you had to crane your neck upward just to see his face as your height reaches just below his shoulder. He wore a neutral expression as his eyes fell over your form, and you felt uneasy under his stare. His silence was intimidating.

"If you were assigned to washing, the area was on another building."

"O-oh, I see. Thank you and my apologies."

You were honestly surprised and grateful at his advice, but you sensed something was wrong when he still didn't move and continued staring at you. You tried to call out for him, but he nodded at something before continuing on his stride, making you confused over his actions. For the few seconds he stared at you, you felt a faint sense of fuzziness, but it was gone the minute he walked away. You knew it was still in effect, but it was less than before and disappeared completely when he was nowhere to be seen. Did he try his sorcery?

Your eyes fell onto your wrist and saw the glow in its ruby. Without a second thought, you lifted your arm and tried to lay it under the sun for a clearer view, wondering what lies it beholds, ignoring what happened a few seconds earlier. A hand shot out and grasped your forearm, causing you to flinch back in shock. The hand was firm in their hold as they moved it to the side of their face. Jamil Viper, in all glory, stood before you as he assessed the dangle; his eyes were a glowing shade of red.

"Where did you get this?" His voice was low as he muttered his question, still looking at the dangle. You were alarm as he came out of nowhere, the white linens laid forgotten as you tried to move away but was unsuccessful.

"I-" Your words betray you, as you were under his hold. His eyes flicker towards you, and he grasps your forearm tighter and moves it closer.

"Where.Did.You.Get.This."

"Let go!" You pulled your arm away, glaring at him while the force pulled you back. The familiar light shone from your wrist, and his expression flickered with anxiety, anger, and frustration.

"You-"

Your vision turns black again, but this time you stay awake for a few minutes before passing out on the ground as soon as you notice you made it back home.

"I saw y/n had a special mark on the back of her hand. It was very similar to you father..." Silver said as he sat on the couch in front of Lilia, who pondered at his words before plastering a smile between his lips. He wore a carefree expression, his back lay comfortably on the backrest, and a hand rested on the side of his face. The glove covered what was underneath. If Silver didn't know him at all, he would guess Lilia was merely uninterested, yet he knew he wasn't. His eyes were the ones that gave him away.

"Is that so? Do tell what type of design she had, maybe we could help her find her soulmate in this world." The two men in the room knew Lilia was avoiding the topic, yet Silver still continued.

"It was beautiful...A bat was covered with intricate design..." Silver nodded off while mumbling his words before he fell asleep.

Lilia chuckled as sleep finally consumed Silver, who laid his head on the side of the couch. He floats behind him and places a blanket over his large form, patting his head gently while his lips turn downward. His eyes held a forlorn gaze while staring at the ceiling.

"She would be unhappy if she stayed with me."

~~~
Lilia was no fool. He had seen her soulmark by accident when they were paired to get some ingredients in the botanical garden. He remembered it as if it were yesterday.
The brightness shone from the transparent glass from the ceiling as they made their way, their feet scrunching from the ground while Lilia stayed in front of y/n, who, unbeknownst to him, had her gaze on him the moment they had paired.
They were quiet, to say the least. Lilia was in deep thought while y/n called out for him before placing her hand on his shoulder, catching his attention.
"Lilia?"
Said person turned his head, and the first thing he saw was the black ink on the back of her hand. His eyes widened slightly before his face returned to a neutral expression. It can't be right?
"What's wrong, y/n?" She paused for a moment and shook her head.
"Nothing, are you alright?"
"Hm? What made you think of that?" y/n merely smiled and continued on their way.
"Just a question."
.
.
.
After some early duties, Lilia floats towards the classroom with bats in tow. He greeted the other students by scaring them, watching in amusement as they let out a sheer scream and left bewildered.
He chuckled and sat down in an empty chair with no neighbor. The bell chimed before students sat in their respective places while Lilia's partner seemed to disappear, late mayhaps. He zoned out for a while as their teacher called out their names before a student barged in, panicked and disheveled.
"y/n-"
"Here!"
Her eyes glanced around the room before they fell onto the empty seat beside Lilia. She mumbled her apologies to their teacher as she made her way towards the table. The textbooks lay on top with a soft thud as she sat down and greeted Lilia with a smile, who smiled in return. For a few moments, Lilia's attention was distracted by the warmth emitting from y/n. The classroom wasn't cold per se; the fairies did their job well, yet he felt the room was cold aside from the figure beside him. He didn't know.
His eyes flickered towards y/n, whose attention was solely on the board in front of them. He admires the way her eyes focused on the lesson, her nose scrunched a little, and her eyes furrowed. Turning his attention back to the board, he let a small smile grace his lips.
This distance was enough.
.
.
.
They fall into a routine without him realizing it. He would always sit in the middle row (I don't know where his seat was, but anyway-) and she always sat by his side. The pair still didn't talk much with each other, and Lilia was rather optimistic about their situation. This continued for the next few days; she would smile at him after they sat down, and he was the first to leave at the end of the lessons, excusing himself for the sake of duties that were equal to non at the moment. The trio noticed how odd his actions were and started asking him questions, which he denied.
"Lilia, are you sure you are okay? Have your duties occupied your time?" Malleus was the first to ask. Silver appeared beside him, and one glance at Lilia was all it took to know what dilemma Lilia was facing.
"Father, is this about your bond? If so, why are you avoiding her?" Lilia was grateful that he didn't mention her name, as he felt his resolve was weakening.
"Romance is not for me, Silver... I am afraid she needed someone who was lively and much closer in age rather than someone who could be her grandpa at best." Lilia plastered a smile, watching the other frown, and Malleus turned to both of them, confused for a moment before recognition was written on his face. His lips opened before closing as he withdrew his words. He sighs and turns to Silver, who bowed and left the two in the lounge. The air shifted as they sat down on the couch, just like Lilia and Silver did before, but with Malleus.
"I never thought you would resort to this action." Malleus said after a beat of silence passed by them.
"It's for the best."
"And what part is the best?"
"For her to realize someone was much more worth than a soldier myself."- Lilia pursed his lips-" And for that, I made a decision."
Malleus was quiet. He too knew the risk of loving a human and would one day watch them before they took their last breath. He fully understood his position, yet he wondered.
"Lilia." He breathes, looking at him in the eyes, and for once, Lilia saw the young prince was starting to mature. "You taught us to appreciate our surroundings more, even the people around us. Enjoying their presence before they soon went somewhere were a very long time for us to reach."
This time, Lilia was the one who was quiet as he listened.
"What's wrong with loving a human despite the difference between the two of you? " For once, Lilia's words that helped others and sometimes himself failed him at the most important moment of his life. He knew what Malleus said was true; after all, the answer was already on the table and hadn't been noticed despite the signs being already there.
The times when y/n thought she was good at hiding her excitement were when he was near. The way her eyes crinkled in amusement and the way she beamed—even a small gesture made by him could bring her happiness—she stayed by his side without fail.
"Have you found your answer?"
Lilia's smile widened before he nodded at the tall man, his mood had already lifted.
"Fufufu of course."
"Then we shall wait for your breakthrough, Lilia."
.
.
.
The next day, Lilia found her sitting below a tree. He admired how the sun added to her complexion as she lay on the ground, basking in the free time she had with a sandwich on hand. He floated towards her, careful not to make a sound as he floated upward. His vision turned upside down as he fell just inches away from her face as he surprised her.
"Boo!"
"Eek! Lilia?!" The sandwich on her hand almost fell to the ground before she composed herself and chuckled.
"Goodevening Lilia-san." y/n surprises him as she offers the extra sandwich she had, but he refuses. After all, y/n needed it more than he did, yet she didn't take no for an answer, and he had to bite to appease her command. His attention drifted away from the deluxe sandwich, and he almost forgot the reason why he came.
"y/n dear, do you mind if I stay with you?"
"Sure." She replied easily, and he sat down in front of her. The pair ate in silence as their attention drifted into their thoughts. Lilia, who became bolder, sat down beside her, making her surprised by his actions. She wanted to ask, yet she didn't, enjoying his presence more than she ever admitted which he too didn't realize as he watched how her lips curled up in a smile easily. He was pleased by the turn of events and glanced at the sky, wishing for something he wouldn't say.
Lilia didn't want to rely solely on the mark that binds between them, he wanted her to fall for him without the mark telling them which choices they would make.
.
.
.
There were notable changes between the two pairs as they made their way towards the library. Even the three sons (Sebek is also his son okay?) noticed how the bat seemed to be at ease and happier. Lilia no longer played hide-and-seek. He was also always at her company, which she didn't mind. This continued for days, and unbeknownst to them both, they were slowly developing some affection for each other, yet y/n couldn't shake the feeling of guilt as they met during their usual routine. Lilia noticed her growing distance and wasn't afraid to ask her, despite the growing uncertainty that crossed his head. Does she finally know?
"y/n is something bothering you?"
"A-ah no..." Her eyes were still distant as she looked at the book spine. Lilia stood there, silently observing before he asked the question that had been nagging him before.
"Was it something connected to your mark?"
She freezes under his stare and drops her quest to find the book they need.
"I'm not sure." y/n didn't lie. She didn't know how to bring up something without alarming him about something she had known for a very long time. She sat down on a chair nearby and let out a small sigh.
Her confused expression was enough for him. His face softened, he floats at her side, and he sits down, watching how she seems nervous.
"You knew?" Lilia was calm, whilst y/n face reddened by shame.
"I thought if I did that, somehow a part of you would accept my presence. It
was fine even if it wouldn't do me any favors."
Lilia watched intently while she was trying to explain her reason. He breathed and smiled, catching her off guard as he took off his gloves and clasped her hand in his, holding their soulmark together. He relishes the warmth of her hands in his, admiring their mark together while they stay silent in each other's presence.
"I admit, I was a fool. I'm sorry for disregarding your opinion because I thought it was the best." He was, for the days he spent avoiding her. Ah, he felt like a buffoon.
"I know." she replies, laying her head on his shoulder, her hair tickling his neck as the faintly sweet-scented rose surrounded them as he inhaled. Her presence not only calmed him but also acknowledged that the one for him was here, right by his side.
"Are you sure you wanted to stay with me? I am nothing but an old man."
"I'm sure."
Thank you, y/n
Whaaa thank you for the wait, i'm sorry for taking too long to post. As for Lilia, i'm sorry for making him a bit ooc.😖
The Trickster
Welcome to the show~
Summary: In which Epel forces you to come with him to a show where a certain magician tried to win your heart.
"Welcome, my dear guests." A voice echoes around you as the lights turn on, surrounding the whole area with different colors. The people around you cheered in anticipation as they waited for the magician's arrival. Even your friend Epel Felmier, who was sitting at your side, leapt up from his seat and screamed louder with his hands cupping his cheeks.
The whole area was buzzing with excitement as you quietly watched the whole ordeal. You were already content to simply watch in silence while Epel begged to differ. He threw a massive fit earlier in the day, convincing you to come and liven up your life rather than staying over to watch your parents shop while they're away.
You ask him how a show could liven up your life when you have responsibilities, and he shrugs.
"Just come and watch, will ya? When was the last time you had fun? Come on, have I ever asked you anything?"
That shuts you up. He also uses puppy doll eyes, which he knew you couldn't refuse. They stare at your soul, begging and trapping you in their hue. Who were you to decline?
You begrudgingly happily closed the shop and accompanied the smirking Epel, and that led you here. The area's noises slowly dwindled as the magician still had yet to arrive with his appearance despite his voice calling out earlier, until a lady screamed from the side, earning your attention, and low and behold, the magician stood right behind her, stiffling his laughter while his whole demeanor showed amusement.
He wore a black long-sleeve tuxedo with white and red heart patterns on his collar and pants. The edges of his tuxedo had gold embroidered patterns, while the sides of his arms were covered with small red hearts ending just below his hand. He also had white gloves and a hat that were similar to the colors that he wears. His whole face, except the part on his lips, was covered with a mask. On the left side of his face, he also had a red heart shape just besides the eye.
His physique leans more on the younger side, maybe even the same age as yours. You expected him to be a middle-aged man or older, judging by the rumors swirling around, but then again, don't judge a book by its cover. The whole area erupted in cheers as they noticed the magician, whose upper body bent slowly as he bowed towards his audience. He slowly lifted himself up and turned to the other person beside him, grinning.
"Hey, mister, can I borrow your cloak a bit?"
"A-ah sure!"
Definitely young.
The people around you stayed silent as they watched what he would do. He lifted the cloak close to himself and turned to the audience with a smirk. He twirled himself around as you watched intently before the cloak fell to the ground and he disappeared. The audience gasps and murmurs. The lights turn to a single position on the stage, with the magician standing in the center. Epel raised his fist in the air as he cheered, while you clapped along with the others.
"I'm sorry for the long wait; I was unfortunately held up for a second." He clicked his finger, and smoke soon covered the ground. He appeared on the other side of the building with a pen in his hand. He twirled it around as he moved around with a laid-back demeanor.
"But I had it under control. Now who wants a show?"
The audience replied with screams and buzzed with excitement, while the magician chuckled before stiffling in laughter at the attention. Why did he laugh? You didn't know.
"Haha! My bad, teehee, I'm afraid I'll need some help with my performance. Who was willing to come up on stage?"
Some volunteered by raising their hands in the air, while others seemed reluctant. The magician tilted his head to the side; his fluffy orange hair swayed just a little, and he plastered a smirk.
"Don't be shy; I won't let anything bad happen to all of you. My tricks are harmless," he assures. You watch in fascination as they seem to follow his words and raise their hands. He picked some of them up before moving them to the stage. He instructed them by whispering in their ears, making the audience curious. Epel, who seemed to be quiet, took the popcorn out of nowhere and offered you some of it. You helped yourself, munched the cheese-flavored popcorn, and waited.
"Tch, it's taking quite some time, Epel mumbled for your ears to hear. You hum in acknowledgement as you watch the magician smile throughout the whole process.
He was at ease.
You noted how he was still laid-back and wondered if he wasn't pressured at all. Instead, he looked thoroughly enjoying his work as he moved in another direction and onto the next; despite the growing frustration of some audience members, he took the time to talk with them. He moved his gaze around and soon noticed your stare, which he assumed was directed at you.
The mask on his face also hides his eyes, which made it hard to tell what he was looking at for a moment, yet you stared. You didn't seem shy looking at him and instead faced him without meaning to. He let a smile grace his lips, very different from the way he smiles at others. He mouthed something in your direction, and you tilted your head in confusion before he clapped hands, earning the attention around him.
"At long last, let the show begin!"
You wondered about something he had said but shrugged it off with the thought that maybe it was directed at someone else; it would be really awkward if you thought it was you but it wasn't.
At his command, hundreds of fireworks emitted from the ceiling. You watch in fascination as it falls to the ground like a thousand droplets; one of them falls to your hand and takes shape into a heart crystal.
The audience clapped in unison as the magician bowed and raised one hand in the other direction. The pen in his hand glowed, and magic seemed to spill from the tips. It flowed through the air like a wind, and when Epel touched the air, an imaginary apple and carved objects danced through the air surrounding him. You laughed as he tried to swat the objects, causing them to split and multiply.
You tried one yourself, yet none seemed to work like it did for others. Disappointed, you lowered your hand and directed your attention to the stage. The audience, who volunteered, made a few tricks with the help of the magician, and they enjoyed the experience while the magician disappeared from view.
He appeared beside you while the audience's attention was captured on the stage. You turn your head just in time to see him lower himself to the floor and seem to be preparing for his next performance before noticing your gaze on him. The lines in his mask seemed to widen before his lips curled up once more with his finger on them. You shyly smiled and tilted your head before turning around and noticing how your face was getting warmer.
You had no idea how you caught the magician in his act or how he noticed you. One thing is for sure: he was actually handsome, even with a mask. Maybe the way he carried himself added to his charm? You didn't want to know.
He watches you as you turn your head away, noticing the red tint in your ears.
even from the darkness in his view.
Cute.
The whole performance ends when the clock turns ten. The guests started to leave while chatting among themselves. The two of you waited for the crowd to disperse before you went home. Epel yawned without a care while you stood at his side, blowing your hands as they slowly became warmer.
Epel kept praising the show the whole time as you walked home. You merely smiled in response, half listening as you recalled the event in your mind. The heart glass was still in your palm; it was oddly warm despite the temperature.
You lifted it up in the air and stared at the transparent crystal.
Epel noticed your silence and saw the crystal hanging in your hand. He smirked, covering his mouth as he looked at you with a knowing look in his eyes. You noticed your weird friend pointing at signs while you scrunched your eyes.
"What is it?"
"Nothing; you seem to enjoy yourself."
You didn't reply as you continued to stare at the crystal, looking quite thoughtful. Epel was surprised as you pondered his question by the way your lips turned into a thin line and you stared blankly.
Then you smiled softly; the moonlight glistened your figure under its glory; your eyes brightened for the first time since you came and you nodded, causing Epel to blink his eyes.
"It was fun."
Epel invited you once again to the same show after a few months had passed. You were tending your shop as usual when he slammed the door, surprising you and even the customer. He threw the ticket in your face while bursting with excitement. You read the contents as he shared the news with the customer, who was also your friend, Jack.
"-That show was interesting, ya hear?! Even y/n had fun watching the show!"
"R-really? He was here? Can I join?"
The brute's tail wags without his knowledge, and Epel takes full advantage of his sudden interest and puffs his chest.
"Buy one on your own. Ya know, it was hard getting these tickets by myself, so you better buy that-"
"I see, thank you very much!"
"W-wait! Do you even know where- and he's gone."
Jack's actions left the two of you confused. Epel, shrug it off as him being a fan before you nod. You tap your phone and contact one of your friends whom you haven't seen in a long time. Epel encouraged you to contact him, as he too missed the other brute. You put your phone on speaker and waited for him to pick up. After three dials, the other side of the phone muffled a greeting.
"Sebek!" The two of you cheered before the mood changed.
"HUMAN! Who dares to call the king's guard in the middle of his duty?! What is it so important for you to make a ca-"
Ah, convincing him would probably take a long time.
Sebek had a frown on his face as the three of you spotted him in the crowd. He was easy to find, being taller than most people nearby. They gushes about how handsome and tall the half-fae is; he could somewhat hear what they were saying as he looked quite uncomfortable under their gaze. Jack, being the kind he was, also didn't notice the way people stare at him called the king's guard, Sebek.
"Sebek, here!"
The said person craned his neck to glance behind him and made his way towards the group.
"Took you long enough."
"Hah, like I did. I have been waiting for ten minutes!" Epel chirped in.
"You were just too early!"
"Guys, keep your voice down! People are already looking." Jack scolded the two while you stood there, feeling embarrassed as people watched your group.
"*Sigh* Let's just go." you mumbled.
You four sadly sat down chairs away from each other. Apparently, Epel blindly bought the tickets without checking if the seats were next to each other. Jack didn't know which number our chair was and bought a random number, while Sebek was a similar case to Jack. Jack was on his phone while Epel mumbled curses at his mistake. Sebek was so done with everything that he flopped down on his chair as he stared into a hole in the stage, wishing for everything to end so he could return to his master.
You were calm as you sat down, greeting the lady beside you with a court nod. Just as you sat down, the lights turned off and on in different colors, just as before.
"Yahoo everyone! Did you miss me? Of course all of you do!"
He bowed to the audience and plastered a smirk on his face, with which you had grown familiar. He floated in the air, earning the audience's awe, before he flew around the crowd while thousands of different flowers fell behind him.
You catch a red rose as it falls before you and admire its beauty, caressing the petals before turning your attention back towards the stage where you assume he would be. To your surprise and shock, he stood before you, offering his hand. He was still wearing a smirk, and his demeanor showed pride in him.
You were confused as to why he was standing before you while the audience whispered among themselves; your seatmates even moved away as they gawked.
"Is she his girlfriend?"
"Lucky girl, imagine having the magician as your boyfriend."
"How romantic."
You were growing more flustered under their stare, and I have no doubt your friends are staring hard at your form. You had completely forgotten the man who was responsible for the attention as you covered your flushed face with your hands, wishing the chair could swallow you whole. You heard a chuckle in front of you, and you chose to ignore it.
"You were kind of cute, weren't you? I couldn't help but notice you since I have come here, he confessed so casually. You sat there, frozen in place and blushing like a fool.
Moving your hands away, you saw he was still offering his hand, but his face was much closer than before. He tilted his head. Innocence was emitting from him, but you knew he was enjoying your flustered state.
You reluctantly accept his hand, not wanting to delay the show and wishing it to end. His hand was warm despite the glove he wore, and the idiot was grinning like a fool at the sight of you so deeply red. He clasped your hand in his and lifted you up.
"Would you mind joining me for today? You were the perfect candidate for my heart, you know."
You lifted your gaze unimpressed before scoffing loudly.
"How am I the perfect candidate? I don't recall anything that could peak your interest, sir magician."
"Ace."
"What?"
"Call me Ace."
You stared at him, dumbfounded, as he casually said his name. The crowd cheered for the both of you while your eyes flickered with emotion. You could hear Epel screaming louder while you wondered what happened to the other two. You shut your mouth and looked at him, even more confused. He took pity on you by simply tightening his hold on you and holding your waist before flying in the air. You shriek in surprise and hold onto his coat. He chuckled and put the rose in your hand behind your ear.
"Don't be afraid; just relax."
You nodded, still gripping his coat, as you took a deep breath.
"I'm ready, but if something happens to me, I'm suing you."
"Haha goodluck."
The air shifted as you moved in the air. You breathed in the scent of roses lingering around you as he swayed you back and forth, dancing in the air. The whole time you were looking down on your feet as you watched the crowd and noticed their intense and fascination stare. You were stiff as he twirled you around, and for a second, you thought he would drop you.
"Relax, you're doing just fine. Did you know when I first saw you months ago, you were sitting with a lack of interest in your eyes?"
Oh, did I just look like that?
"You did."
"Did I just say that out loud?"
"Nope, but your face is."
He laughed as you glared in his direction.
"I'm sorry for having such an expression." You couldn't help but apologize as you remembered the way he was attentive to the audience. He was trying to give everyone the best of his abilities, and here you are, being unappreciative of his work. You observed his expression for any signs of malice, yet you found none; his  face was neutral.
"Is that why you noticed me now?" So you could prove everyone should be happy under your watchful gaze?
"Nope, I made a promise to you, remember?"
What?
You furrowed your eyes and continued to stare at him. He grinned, and his face grew closer.
"Remember? I recall you reading my lips before the show started."
He let a smile grace his lips, very different from the way he smiles at others. He mouthed something in your direction, and you tilted your head in confusion before he clapped his hand, earning the attention around him.
"A-ah that?!"
"Now you're talking."
"But the thing is, I don't remember. I thought it was for someone else." You reason while his lips turn into an o shape. He looked quite thoughtful before smiling, just like before.
"Then just read my lips like before."
"What?"
You didn't have time to ask again, as he moved his lips soon after. This time, you watch intently, and you catch most of the words.
If you weren't impressed today, the next time I'll show you the best.
You let your lips curl into a smile and shake your head at his musing. Why would he make a promise to a stranger like that? You didn't know, but it warms your heart.
Try your best, Ace; I'm counting on that one.
"I'm still hoping to catch your heart in the process by the-'"
"Not the time!"
.
.
.
Ace really did try his best; he let you sit back down in your chair after quite some time before showing more of his magic around the area. It was relaxing and satisfying to watch, yet it didn't seem to satisfy him, as he sometimes looked in your direction before flicking magic surrounding your area like the one before.
You remembered it didn't work the last time and wondered if it would be the same.
You tried to reach out again, and you were surprised at how many tiny little hearts surrounded you. They changed into different forms each time, showing different animals and flowers, and you felt at ease by how warm they were. Sadly, everything came to an end when the whole area was swarmed with police officers.
"Ace trappola! You are under arrest for fraud!" One of the police officers spoke with a gun pointing towards the suspect. His cyan-colored eyes flickered around you, and he did a double take when he noticed you were there. His eyes widened before turning furious at the magician.
Deuce?!
"Oops, that's my cue to leave!" The magician bowed to the audience one last time with a grin on his face.
"Once again, thank you for coming. See you next time!"
He disappeared into the thin air, and you shrieked in surprise when he appeared beside you as he carried you into his arms and left the scene still grinning.
Why is he dragging you with him?
He was quite fast as he dodged the police line of sight with you in his arms. You tightened your grip on his shoulders before turning to face him with a frown on your face.
"You could just leave me there, you know?"
"Sorry!" He didn't seem quite sorry, judging by the tone of his voice. You were growing more frustrated the more you flew away. You turned to face him with anger written in your face.
"My friends are waiting for me; I can't simply leave them behind for a stranger whom I have only met twice!"
"Too bad, you still didn't seem to be impressed, just like I promised!"
"Huh, what? But I-"
He took off his mask, and you were surprised. He had unusually red eyes that stared at you with cheekiness in them. His lips curled in mischief as he noticed you becoming quiet under his gaze.
"You'll be seeing me from now on; I'll impress you with my tricks just while you wait."
Yahooo thank you for reading. To clarify I based his design to disney recruiter jack heart. And a fact also is if you squint your eyes, there is a secret as to why the police arrive the show~
Someone called them, who was it?
