having a category 5 ashleaf moment. the way they need each other. the way ashleah is loreleaf’s first friend who is only interested in him for his own sake, who has no preconceived notions about who he is. the way loreleaf is practically ashleah’s first friend period. the way ashleah is blunt and seems rude and seems so comfortable in being no one’s favorite person but has a hunger for love in her she can’t even name. the way loreleaf is so desperate to be approved of, to be needed, to be of use, but he can’t impress ashleah with anything he does, so in a weird way he can be more honest and real with her than with anyone he’s ever known. the way they slot into the empty places of each other like keys opening doors that have never been opened before. the way they can be completely honest and ugly and true in ways they never imagined before. and still be loved, maybe loved even more than before, because of it

hey guys do the allos know that they can have qprs too? like do they know that being alloromantic doesn't mean they can't choose to be in a qpr anyway? because qprs aren't "romance-lite" for aros, they're an entirely separate kind of relationship that anyone can have. you can do this with fictional characters too. you can put characters that aren't aroace or are even canonically dating in qprs with each other just because you think that would be a cool way to play with their dynamic. it's actually very cool and you totally should.

This tree is an example of a gemel, or two conjoined trees that fused together in a process called inosculation - essentially, self-grafting. This is pretty common in thin-barked trees like apple trees, blackthorn, beech, and olives, but pretty rare in thick-barked Douglas fir trees like this one. This tree has a lot of damage from boring beetles, possibly by Douglas fir beetles, Denroctonus pseudotsugae (I could be wrong, though). Being fused together might have weakened the tree, making it susceptible to beetle attack.

hi, i love dynamics that r like “we make each other worse” on the surface but when u look deeper it is actually just “we understand each other on a level that no one else does and nudge each other out of our typical comfort zone” which just circles around to “we make each other better”. it’s abt the accidental growth just by being in each other’s lives. idk

when loreleaf ends up on earth in the third prophecy trilogy book, he becomes, like ashleah was on the island, wretchedly sick. this is fine, because ashleah and her mother just got to this town for work and they'll be here for a few weeks, plenty of time for him to recuperate.

herein follows a non-exhaustive list of movies that ashleah forces loreleaf to watch with her while convalescing:

  • spirit: stallion of the cimarron
  • the princess diaries, both of them
  • she gets into a spiral trying to decide whether to show him star wars in chronological or release date order and eventually decides to just. not.
  • the road to el dorado
  • speed 1994
  • the last unicorn
  • robin hood 1973
  • lord of the rings, she obviously clears out a whole day for extended edition
  • assigns him as legolas kin though he protests that that's typecasting
  • this is, ofc, after she's gone to the nearest joann and bought a bunch of remnants/sewing supplies so he has something familiar to do with his hands during the 9 hours of movie
  • over the garden wall
  • assigns him wirt kin, he can't argue there

there's a different version of this list where it's ordered from "movies he understands the most" to "movies that activates his fight or flight because they're so foreign to him." the last unicorn is at the top and speed is at the bottom. ("what the fuck is a bus, ashleah. what the fuck is a gun. what the fuck is a cop. this is what a heart attack feels like. ashleah i'm about to literally die of this movie.")

There is one particular ship dynamic that never fails to wreck me, and I’ll call it Soulmates, But Not Like That. Not in a “some higher power has decided that we are destined to be together” way, but something that is almost the opposite of that. It’s that character who has been alone for a long time, and has maybe convinced themselves that they will be alone forever, and who has a lot of barriers to intimacy with most of the people around them, for whatever the relevant narrative reasons are. And then they just happen to cross paths with this ONE FUCKING PERSON who works for them, through some very specific combination of personality and circumstance and life experience and mutually compatible damage. And there is always the shock of what are the fucking odds, and underneath everything the terror of what if this doesn’t last. what if there’s no one else. I would just go back to being alone. I don’t know if I could do that after knowing this. Because when you finally let down that wall of emotional self-sufficiency the thought of having to put it back up again is painful. And in real life I don’t at all believe that there is only One Designated Person for anyone, but in fiction I do tend to gravitate toward characters who believe themselves to be The Only One in some way, and I will always be emotionally compromised by that dawning sense of oh. You are like me.
