Wisteria lamp, designed by Clara Driscoll c. 1901.
Today, exquisite, instantly recognizable Tiffany lamps and other stained-glass art nouveau masterpieces fetch hundreds of thousands at auction. Louis Comfort Tiffany originally claimed credit, but many works were actually created by female artists led by head designer Clara Driscoll.
In 1892, Driscoll was named supervisor of the Women’s Glass Cutting Department, known as the “Tiffany Girls.” For the first time, women were allowed to cut out patterns and select glass for windows and mosaics; by 1897, about 40 of the most skilled female artisans were creating meticulous preparatory drawings known as cartoons. There was constant turnover, because the department would not employ married women.
Proud of her work, Driscoll wrote in an 1899 letter to her family, “There are three hundred square feet of small pieces of glass to be accomplished. There is nothing like having enough work to do and feeling able to do so.” That year, Tiffany sold the first electric lamp with a stained-glass base and shade. The lamps became coveted collectors’ items.
It was the women artists’ idea to make lamp shades from pieces of glass left over from window manufacturing. In 1900, Tiffany Studios’ Dragonfly lampshade, Driscoll’s design, earned a bronze medal at the Paris world’s fair. But in company literature, Tiffany credited only himself.
We know this because surviving along with painterly glass artifacts are thousands of Driscoll’s letters detailing her creations and those of her staff. The letters discovered in the early 2000s at the Queens Historical Society described Driscoll’s Gilded Age life: She lived in a Manhattan boarding house, rode her bicycle, and shopped at Lord & Taylor and Wanamaker’s, as electricity lit the city and the new subway rumbled underground. Her letters also contained sketches, designs for which she would not get credit, including the magnificent 2,000-piece Wisteria Lamp inspired by the lush lavender-hued plants cascading atop the pergola at Tiffany’s Long Island estate.

The Avengers Re-imagined, a perfect image for the Avengers 2 next week!
This seems like a medieval, steampunk/fantasy view of them. I really like Black Widow, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch. Also Ultron.
Just a reminder that tattoos don’t have to mean anything. They do not require some intricate and moving backstory. Some people just appreciate having art on their skin…it’s as simple as that.
And even the ones that do shouldn't have to constantly be defended
Episode 8 Hamatora
See this is why I stay away from anime at times. Because now I'm speed-watching Hamatora. I just finished ep 7 and feel like strangling Moral. The inspector has him pegged, he's doing everything for himself in the guise of equality. But stabbing someone and shooting them 5 times? Either Art's subconscious will to protect Nice is going to help him manifest his Minimum (ie he won't really be dead like Moral thinks he is) or someone else is going to replace him. After all, if he's dead that means the bad guy has some role as Art in Season 2 and that doesn't make sense. ARGH. This is exactly why I stay away from anime in favor of books. 'Cause books do the exact same thing but they're not 12-24 episodes long.

Holy shit, this is amazing.
I think I'm crazy
So I've discovered that the people in the Doctor Who/Sherlock fandoms are 1) kinda crazy (which is fabulous) 2) really talented (which at times makes me sorta envious) 3) really active on Tumblr (which is again super epic) and 4) people that I really wish lived nearby because I want to get to know them better. I have way more blogs that I'm following now that are in those fandoms than others. Hehehe. I still wish that some of them lived in this state though. Ooo - so I have a question then. Since Sherlock is obviously one of those people that never seems to sleep by a regular schedule and I don't think we ever see the Doctor sleep, (not really anyways) is anybody in this fandom an insomniac of some kind? Also, do you find yourself doing crazy things late at night?
because omg, eeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Often times the people I meet (and some of the ones I become friends with) are involved in one or two of the fandoms that I happen to enjoy as well. It's rare that they're involved in more than one, though in the case of one of my friends, we both happen to be HUGE Sherlock, Doctor Who and Once Upon a Time fans. But for someone to be all those and a Harry Potter fan? It's like a dream come true. That's why I'm ridiculously happy that I can finally reblog that picture post that amygloriouspond put up. Hooray!
