Fuck you *ladies your whump*
Nuance! I'm into kink but only as it overlaps with whump. When I can connect kink to my whumpy interests, I'm into it. But I'm not into it independent of whump.
For me this manifests in two ways:
- I enjoy media that is meant to be kinky if it overlaps enough with my whump interests. Examples: bondage art that evokes whump scenarios I enjoy, like interrogations or prison whump; power games before any willing submission happens; intense noncon. (This is a fine line for me, because I'm ace with a variable degree of sex repulsion, so it's very common for the same piece of media to quickly go from "I am very into this" to "yuck, no more of this please" for me, if it becomes less whump-adjacent and/or more sexual.)
- Similar to my media interests, I am into kinky play if and only if it evokes whumpy things. For example, I don't enjoy physical pain for its own sake, but I do enjoy it as a way to bring a whump scenario to life. (But my actual whump interests are a lot more extreme than anything I would want to do in real life. Pretend only.)
The whumpee used to be respected- even feared, and they thrived in the reputation they had gained. The attitude the whumpee had was the exact reason the whumper wanted to break them- they wanted to see that little charade shattered beyond salvation, and they didn’t care how long it would take to get there.
Cold, calculating, in-control whumpers are great, don't get me wrong, but what I really love is whumpers who. Are. Losing. It.
Whumpers who, for whatever reason, have lost their shit, leaving whumpee to take the brunt of their firey anger. Whumpers who aren't holding back, who could very well accidentally kill whumpee. Whumpers who have someone completely at the mercy of their tantrum.
Gotta love a telepath whumper torturing the whumpee by forcing them to relive their worst/most traumatic memories
Where are all these male whumper x female whumpee fics everyone keeps saying there are so many of? (Well, compared to female whumper x any gender whumpee at least.) Am I just bad at finding them? Please, I'm desperate. Everything I come across that I haven't already read that has a tagged female character is either environmental whump, or she's the caretaker.
And I keep seeing people say that the vast majority of m/f whump has noncon or romance in it. Why can't I find any of this (save like three bbu fics)?? Please, I am the target audience! Where are they???
First of all, there's this google sheet list that contains many women in whump, though obviously not limited that specific configuration.
Now let's get into some personal mentions. I am not a fan of modern or pet whump, I read mostly fantasy, and I prefer stories that go beyond the whump. There will often be male and female whumpees in the same story, because hey, why stop at hurting one?
Straight from my favs list, we have @starlit-hopes-and-dreams 's Carr in Hidden Depths, and @little-peril-stories ' Bree in The Prince of Thieves (she also has her own AU under the Queen of Lies) and @pleasestaywithmedarling 's Kiri in Sin of Purity, Purity of Sin. I would die for them <3
@thoughtsonhurtandcomfort writes a lot of lady whump, for example My Little Mermaid, but also Emmeline and Seraphina, check her pinned post! We also have @actress4him where I can really just recommend to check the pinned masterpost because there's a lot.
@whump-me has the occasional lady, though I personally haven't read Unseen and Unburied contains MCD, and on the opposite site for "just" aftermath and comfort, we have Gozukk and Anna by @whimperwoods
And I absolutely cannot ever forget @just-horrible-things ' Ari in Unlikely Salvation and AUs, especially the Chewtoy one. Hope you like it bloody.
Now we get to the ones I personally haven't read much of, but their names just happen to float around in my mind:
@aprilwaters 's Ivy, whose masterlist I have tried to fix here, @sableflynn 's Felicia from Out Unseen, @justplainwhump 's Dany and @whump-tr0pes 's Vera, who appears in Honor Bound and her own spinoff, please check the pinned post.
As for my own stories, I have Merridy's backstory in Nuisance, which merges with Damien's story in Glass Shards. I also have Eilis in Till Death, who is technically nonbinary but I'm putting her here anyway, because I just spent half an hour typing this all out. Also let's not pretend someone hating lady whump will read about she/her enbies, so if you know any, bring them my way.
Thanks for the mention, Elli!
You can def just check out my pinned masterlist, the majority of what’s on there is lady whump and everything is marked with whether it’s male or female or both. But I’ll add some more specific info for you, too!
The Shadow of Death is mostly high fantasy, but if that’s not your thing there are AUs of pretty much every kind you can imagine on the same masterlist. This is one that has noncon elements and romance! Most of the whump is the female lead, but her boyfriend/husband gets whumped, too. And the whumpers are all male!
Querencia sometimes has whumpers, both male and female, but it’s mostly…situational whump, I guess you might call it? Superheroes and supervillains, empathetic healing, homelessness, lots of emotional angst. Again, there’s a female lead that the whump is focused on, but she also has male and female teammates that get whumped.
Obsession is a female lead with a male whumper. There’s no noncon in it, but he’s def an intimate whumper…also a stalker!
In Irons is historical pirate whump! Female lead with male whumpers, and noncon elements, first from her husband and then from the other pirates.
Lainey and Isa has two female whumpees and a male whumper. Magic user whump, locked in a basement, escape attempts, etc.
Siren is a female living weapon whumpee. There’s not much on her list yet and no specific named whumper, but if you like cinnamon roll, superpowered, living weapons then you should check it out!
…
All the other suggestions that Elli made are great! I’ll also add on:
Immortal Cannon Fodder by @pigeonwhumps for female and nb whump. I haven’t read everything else on the masterlist but there is some more lady whump mixed in, I believe!
@ocean-blue-whump has a female whumpee named Marlow/Star who has both BBU and non-BBU universes
Thanks for the mention!
I have multiple female whumpees.
Firstly, Immortal Cannon Fodder, as Jada said. It's nominally focused on enby whump but there's several female whumpees involved, especially including Brynn and Gemma (and there's a couple more I'm working on bringing into the universe hopefully soon). Brynn especially mainly has a male whumper. Superhero/villain whump.
All of my BBU series contain lady whump, and not just for the pets. Some have male whumpers, some don't (a lot do though). I got a little carried away with my character creation lol (this is a theme).
In the Sam and Lucan 'verse - you want Kara and Edith, werewolf and vampire former slaves respectively. Some slavery whump, some not, but the world contains non-human slavery. Again, some male whumpers, some not.
A Death in the Family - Eldrida. Vampire hunter turned vampire whumpee. Her main whumpers are male.
Botanist whumpee - Alyssa. Your bog-standard kidnapping by a rich and powerful creep (male). First piece is the best imo.
The BBU series are the only ones that contain explicit NSFW whump, but it happens to Kara, Edith and Eldrida too, and more in the BBU that aren't explicit. Not too much m/f romance though.

I'll also add:
Alex and Friends by @i-eat-worlds. It's in the same universe as Immortal Cannon Fodder, crossing over at times. Superhero whump. I love Alex and Pat so much (you'll cry).
Zombies Are An Afterthought by @rainydaywhump. Post-apocalypse, recovery from kidnapping and imprisonment. Excellent characters. The whumpers are a group of men and women.
The Heart and the Hunger by @wolfeyedwitch. Female vampire whumpee. A hell of a lotta dehumanisation. Very good.
Pick one, no nuance:
Hurt
Comfort
“I wish you’d stop thrashing, you’re only going to bruise those pretty little wrists”
Don't be silly – it's only a cycle of violence if it's sustainable. This is a spiral of violence.
Whumpee who breaks down months after they're freed from an awful situation, because they finally realized that who they were before is gone, and they're not coming back. Whumper took that from them.
They break down, falling on the floor and clutching their chest, the despair and grief so overwhelming they start sobbing. They grieve, because the person they were before was left behind in captivity, and died there. They never made it out, and they're never coming back, and that sudden realization crushes Whumpee.
A character struggling against restraints has so many possibilities. Do they fight back with every ounce of tired, furious strength left within them?
Slap them across the face. Stay still.
Do they yank their hands away as they're tied together with rough ropes?
Use metal cuffs. Take away that small hope of wriggling out of their bonds. Lock them over their wrists and tighten them until they remember they're a prisoner.
Nothing more.
Do they laugh, with a voice that's mocking-- refusing to take the situation seriously?
Remind them of its gravity. A blow to the ribcage, a swift crack of a baton over their head, or behind their knees should do the trick.
Do they curse and bite, threatening to drag you down once they're free? You'll regret this--
That will never happen. Don't let them forget it. You'll beg for death by the time I'm done with you.
Freedom is what they once had. They're simply struggling to come to terms with it.
Whumpees who are not innocent.
Whumpees who have done Very Bad Shit.
Whumpees who know they have done Very Bad Shit.
Whumpees who don't feel guilty for (most of) it. They were doing what they could to survive.
Whumpees who don't want to be told it wasn't their fault. They need to believe they made choices. They need to believe they had some kind of agency.
Whumpees who'd rather be seen as a monster than a victim.
“When they catch you, whatever they do to you will not be merciful.”
i love u characters who are victims who don't show things in a way that's appealing i love u characters whos trauma leaves them with anger issues, with violence issues, with issues with connection and trust and being truthful i love you characters who don't get "better" in a way that's palatable, who don't find growth and meaning in their trauma
