It’s the summer before college, and Claire decides she and her longterm girlfriend Hael are finally going to road trip to the Grand Canyon before the fall semester begins. The trip is full of sun, laughter, kisses, cool sheets on their skin, laying in the bed of Claire’s truck and staring up at the night sky. It feels like the summer will be everlasting.
If only.
Less than one hundred miles from the Grand Canyon, Claire looks over at Hael, her brilliant smile, the love in her expression. Her eyes only leave the road for a moment, but that’s all it takes. The car swerves into the oncoming lane and collides with another vehicle. While Claire gets through with only minor scrapes and bruises, without her seatbelt, Hael flies through the windshield and suffers devastating injuries. The paramedics pronounce her dead at the scene.
Claire feels it’s her fault Hael is dead. If only she’d kept her eyes on the road, then Hael would still be alive, holding her hand, curled into her body, drawing her. Hael was the one to help Claire through the death of her father; how can Claire go on?
Sometimes, out of the corner of her eye, she thinks she sees that smile, those hands rendering Claire on paper….

Claire, once a vessel for Castiel, feels a strong pull toward the angel of kindness, art and beauty, while Hael is drawn to Claire’s strong vessel. Hael offers to help Claire find Castiel, and the two team up to search for heaven’s most-wanted angel… and to pay a visit to the Grand Canyon.

i don’t have the time or motivation for a nice picspam, but just look!!!!
au where claire frequents this teen bar/cafe thing, mostly because she’s crushing on the girl who comes in and plays guitar every wednesday. claire smiles all these dopey smiles at hael, and hael notices and maybe she writes a song about wanting to have the courage to speak to someone (hint: it’s claire). and one night they make out in claire’s friend tracy’s volkswagen, and it’s the start of something truly wonderful. hael writes sappy love songs and claire brags about how her girlfriend is the best guitarist and singer ever and she’s so lucky they found each other.
