Uh I feel like one those annoying stick to comic book fans complaining about the show …. Sorta.

So the wonderful richonne moment in the jail cell was great and all. But it was really close to being like Rick and Andrea special comic moment. The “we don’t die.”  For some reason I don’t like that. Idk why other remixed moments in the show doesn’t bother me but this moment does.  I think it’s because it’s a personal romantic moment. It kinda feels like writers can’t think of richonne true romantic moment for them and using Andrea’s. Like ANY michonne isn’t capable to doing that emotionally. I wish it was a bit different for richonne for their big romantic moment.

Also, I think the biggest thing was imo that TV Richonne’s buildup or romance was a lot like comic Richonne’s relationship/ buildup. Also the rest of the time of them being a couple was like original writing. Their first kiss , the way they talk, and how they argue, they do it differently than comic Rick and Andrea.

So idk .. just felt weird that they used the big Andrea/Rick moment. I guess I’m hoping they have richonne to be as kinda original writing. I kinda also thought TV richonne is like what would happen if comic richonne did get together. So anyway I hope TV richonne doesn’t always exactly go like Rick/Andrea.

So TV michonne taking some of Andrea’s plot/story is weirder than I thought. Idk what am I suppose to think of TV michonne exactly. Ahh I’m over thinking and the show remixes all the time.

I disagree. Comic Rick/Andrea’s “We don’t die” was an inherently self-focused thing. It was literally abt how of all the original Atlanta ppl they were the only adults remaining and it was used by Andrea as a reassurance to Rick that he wouldn’t lose her when he had an arc about being overprotective and hesitant about the relationship. At its core, it is literally just them going “everyone else dies except us; we can be together without worry because we don’t die.” On the show, not only was Michonne saying that they’re the ones who live repeating something Rick had already said about the entirety of TF (a construct that is emotionally central to the show but doesn’t exist in the comics), but the other half of it “we’re the ones who get things done” was equally important. Richonne’s scene was about the fact that because they are alive, because they are survivors who can handle this world, because they are so strong and unstoppable together, it’s their responsibility to fight and continue to fight for the sake of the people they love. It is COMPLETELY imo something 100% unique to and fitting Richonne because show Rick and Michonne are both, to their cores, protectors. They both have a deep-seated need to look after others. For that, and many other reasons, I also don’t think that show Richonne is what comic Richonne would be like if it had happened, because the characters are extremely different. I mean just as one example, consider in the comics that Rick was pretending to submit to Negan the entire time so this context, a Rick who had swallowed his pride and lost his fight because he couldn’t stand the thought of anyone else dying, could never even have existed. Consider that in the comics, Michonne’s arc has always been about her complete unwillingness to connect to and care about people deeply, something tv!Michonne overcame and developed far past seasons ago, thus allowing her to genuinely feel that what’s most important is herself and Rick using their lives to make the world better for others. The conversation Rick and Michonne had in that cell on the show was absolutely one that only those characters as they have developed, individually and together, on the show could have had.

Oh thank you for explaining this! Or someone said it what I was thinking all along. I do have the same thoughts as you. But then I overthink and felt annoyed for some reason when I see comments like michonne is like Andrea and stuff and then I get confused on what am I suppose to think of or how to speculate on twd- TV and comic remixing. I just don't want Michonne to lose her michonne-ness or original TV michonne way. I don't want richonne to go exactly like comic rick and andrea's because they are not like them either.

I do agree. What richonne talked about was different than Andrea and rick's even though they both said it similarly. They both had like different meanings or context of their conversation. Thanks for pointing it out. I did thought of that and I even thought the moment was better than the comic's verison.

I feel a bit better now. Richonne was still being Richonne in their own way while going along with the Rick/Andrea plot because it was a different situation!

I still feel a bit irked for some reason that TV michonne said something intimate to Rick which was based on comic Andrea said and was a big Rick/Andrea moment, and was not a comic michonneish...(which TV michonne is based on) or/something original. But then again Richonne's moment was different and they're not exactly like comic Rick and Andrea/comic michonne.

Reason why I say richonne is like what comic richonne coulda been,is because they both had similar buildup in their relationship. I also thought TV richonne was like as if comic michonne got through her guilt and her emotional walls, and being a mother again to Carl/a child. I know richonne isn't like comic richonne right now.

So yeah remixing comic and TV can be weird...

But I feel like I understand TV michonne 's characterization more now.
