They’ve hinted at Nick and Jess romantically very early on. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone IMO.

Yeah, I totally agree. I don’t really understand why people would assume they were supposed to be just friends.

Yeah. I mean don’t get me wrong: if someone dislikes the romance part, that’s completely okay. Different tastes and all that. I know that some watch these shows just for the friendships.

Personally I like to invest in the romances of the characters as well. And you’re just more invested if there’s a romance between two main characters instead of a main character and a random guest star who’s there for maybe 5-7 episodes a season. Therefore, a relationship between Nick and Jess is 10 times more powerful to me than a relationship between Nick and say, Caroline. Or Jess and Sam. And just because they’re together doesn’t mean they’re not still friends. The reason they got together in the first place was because they’re great friends. That doesn’t change.

I’ve always loved this quote: “Love is friendship set on fire.” That’s Nick and Jess.

But again, different tastes.

I agree! Maybe it's the fear of what the writers would do or ruin the show or don't care about romances. I think the writers will still make the show mainly about friends. :) Also I love that after Nick and Jess had sex, they were still the same characters. They didn't act any different or too out of character.

You can’t be any cuter. Please stop.

Oh this makes me hope that Nick and Jess will be a really weird goofy couple that annoy the shit out of their roommates/friends (because they're in a honeymoon phase) and that like Winston and Schmidt teases their goofiness.  It was also what I hope Finn and Rachel in Glee were like but they were mostly dramatic blah blah about proposal stuff. Also, I'm just hoping for a couple that stays a couple for a long time in a tv show and still interesting..instead of just breaking up. We'll see the writers will do next season.

You wanna know what was so great about season 5 of Fringe?

Windmark.

I know what you’re thinking: why? he was an awful, horrible monster! He killed Etta! He’s responsible for Nina killing herself! He was a nasty horrible villain!

Exactly.

It’s rare that a tv show gets a villain that a fandom actually hates. Most of the time, villains actually win the heart of the fandom just like the heros. The villains are human beings we can relate with, pity, see the good in and fantasize about what would happen if they came to the good side. This is not the case with Windmark. He was bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad. He hates the hereos, and this is significant because he doesn’t know what hate is. To quote Philip Broyels “The feeling’s mutual.”

Now back to other villains, very often we don’t want our baddies to die because for some reason we always think they can somehow be reasoned with, or they didn’t deserve what happened to them. In the cases of villains we actually hate, a lot of the time we are disappointed with their demise. I think Windmark had a very good well deserved end that satisfied everyone who wanted him dead.

Why was this such a successful end? Because of how many risky moves had to go perfectly right in order for it to work. Michael had to get off the train and be captured so that Olivia would get dosed with Crotexiphan and regain the awesome powers that would allow her to come rescue him, and among these powers, the ability to move objects, like the car shes mashed him with. It might be a quick death, but it is a painful messy one. And you know what else? He still almost gets away!

Half a second more, and Olivia would have failed, Windmark would have gotten away and the plan may not have succeeded. Since fans hate Windmark so much I’m pretty sure there was a universal whoop of satisfaction when we saw the spurt of blood.

So what do we have? A heartless villain nobody feels sympathy for, and a death scene that death that couldn’t be better. Props to the writers of Fringe, way to make us hate a character and then give him a death worthy of his crimes.

This is my opinion only and if you disagree.

a character to hate

"I think it's great that you hate Lori. When I hear something like that I smile and think about what an amazing job Sarah Wayne Callies has done and also how fearless the writing is with her character.

What I find interesting about TV and the audience reaction sometimes is that everyone tends to want each character to be likable or consistent. Even with villians, if they are consistent, they kind of like them. Then, when a villian displays some sort of warmth, they go bonkers because they love the idea of a villian with a heart of gold.

But how come it's harder to swallow when it's a good person that isn't consistently good?

I remember reading the comic and HATING Lori. I hated her because she was bipolar; irrational in one moment but then suddenly rational the next. Loving one moment, and scornful the next. But then I realized as I took a step back and looked at the whole that her character is completely necessary and makes for interesting drama.

They are in a zombie apocalypse. They are going to be inconsistent. People are going to mess up. People are going to be irrational. People are going to be selfish. People are also going to be good.

Makes for interesting TV." -Steven Yeun

I like this quote about characters you might hate in any story. It make sense that if someone you thought or expect to be.. is inconsistent..that makes people upset. Unless it's like Lori, meant to be inconsistently good. All what writers meant to do, though.

*BTW I don't hate Lori.
