WARD. Gather soil from the four corners of the house or property. Have also a match and brick dust. Nothing else is required, but you can add and flavor the spell as you like with other protective ingredients. Warning: messy-ish.

WORDS. Ash by ash, the soil. Dirt by dirt, the earth. Dust by dust, the brick. Brick by brick, the wall. Wall by wall, the ward. Word by word, the spell.

NOTES. This is the bare bones of my favorite ward. I don’t like to just visualize, but ground the protection in reality. I find the more I am letting my hands shape what I desire, the greater the effect; I excite the earth, compress the soil into bricks, build and shape the walls, trace the ward round, and build a mound of power within it. I repeat it every six months or so, or as needed by ~vibes~.

May original 7.29.16

EDIT: Bonus round. The dirt can be used in 1)jars, along with other protective objects, then placed in windows or other entry points. 2)returned from whence it came, now enriched with intentions and material. 3)kept to be used in spells involving home and protection. 4)in a pot, as the earthen base you sink the stang into when working inside. 5)Or, similarly, put into the base of the altar as an empowerment (connecting to the earth) and as a way to keep empowering the ward (working with the altar feeds the corner points you took from).

Quartzbound’s Home Protection Ritual

So I just moved to a new city, about a month ago. I’m not staying long enough to get a proper lease, so I’ve been subletting through Airbnb and it sometimes makes me really uncomfortable not knowing who else has keys to my apartment. I’m also pretty unaccustomed to living on my own since my partner and I have been living together for nearly 2 years, so this particular move has been particularly disorienting. Fortunately I was finally in a good place to start creating demonic sigils, so I gave it a whirl with some pretty ironclad wards. There were a lot of decisions that were a bit personal to keep this ~mine~ but the process seems pretty generalizable so I wrote it up. The whole thing from start to finish takes a couple of hours depending on your candle and the state of your apartment, but feels pretty damn satisfying.

22 Domestic Witch Tips, Charms, and Omens

This is a list of tid-bits that I find useful in aiding the Domestic Witch in creating a comfortably witchy home. 1. Spray a bit of perfume, drops of essential oils, or room spray on light bulbs to make a room smell fresh and add a magickal aura according to the sent you’ve chosen.  Make sure you do this while the light is off otherwise the light bulb will likely explode.

2. Keeping an acorn at your window will keep lightning from striking.

3. Keep a Kitchen Witch (Cottage Witch) doll in your kitchen to bring good luck and to keep away any ill meaning spirits.

4. Spilling water on your tablecloth means a storm is coming.  The same is true of a coffee pot that keeps boiling over.

5.Burn a candle on your stove to symbolize the hearth fire of the past.  This honors your patron kitchen Goddess and fills your home with love.  (Candles have a longer burning life if you place them in the freezer for a few hours before lighting them.)

6. To keep an unwanted visitor from returning sweep whatever room or rooms they were in as soon as they leave your home.

7. Never sweep your kitchen after the sun goes down

8. Two yolks in an egg foretell a marriage.

9. Cakes should be baked while the sun is rising.

10. Never turn a loaf of bread upside down after it has been cut.

11. It’s good luck to receive a loaf of bread as a house-warming present.

12. To throw away bread is to throw away any potential luck and prosperity that would come to your home, instead make breadcrumbs or feed it to the birds.

13. If a ring of rice forms around the edge of a pot it means money is coming.

14. Wine leftover from ritual…freeze it in ice cube trays then add a cube or two to gravies, sauces, and casseroles as needed.

15. To make your food taste better keep a quartz crystal on or near your stove.

16. When given a plant as a gift you should not say thank you or the plant will die.

17. Those looking for love should place a pot of basil on their windowsill.

18. Rosemary can be placed under pillows to ward of evil spirits.

19. In ancient times it was believed that in gardens “where rosemary flourished, the woman ruled.”

20. Lavender can be placed under the mattress to bring passion to the marital bed or hung on a bedpost for protection.

21. Growing ivy in your home guards against disaster.

22. Grow a spider plant (chlorophytum comosum) in a space you want to purify.

Anonymous asked:

Do you know what i could do with really old loose leaf tea? I have some green tea(&other kinds) that's like 8 years old and i don't just want to throw it out...😂

YES OMG! Old tea leaves are perfect for cleansing/cleaning your space and the possibilities for witchcraft are limitless:

Potpourri: You can easily make your very own potpourri with old tea leaves. You can make either a satchet or keep it loose and store it in a glass bowl. Since they’re so old, the scent of tea should be pretty much gone, which means you have the perfect base to blend your own oils and add to it. You can blend whatever oils you want, drip a few drops (5-10 for a light scent, 11-20 for a strong one) on about a handful of leaves, add a fixative to slow the process of evaporation (orris root, cinnamon sticks, dry lavender, nutmeg, vanilla pods, patchouli, and sandalwood bark are my personal faves), et voila! You have potpourri! Make sure to put it in a place with low humidity to prevent molding. You can also make tiny satchets, fill them with your potpourri, and throw them in drawers, nooks, and crannies to create a well-scented environment.

Cleaning: Tea is a fantastic astringent, so it cuts through grease pretty easily, making it a great addition to floor washes and furniture scrubs. Caution: tea is also fantastic at staining things lol. Light teas are good for light woods/porcelain and dark teas are best on dark wood. You can also add dry old tea to carpet powders, cat litter, and in your fridge as deodorizers.

Gardening: If you compost, used wet tea leaves are good for the brown layer!

Beauty: Green tea can be used as a toner, but make sure you only make a little bit at a time because the shelf life isn’t that great. Boil some filtered water, let the green tea leaves steep for 3-5 min, (optional) add a tsp of witch hazel and a few drops of vitamin E oil. Let cool, then take a cotton ball, dip it in the solution, and rub on your face and neck twice a day. Make sure to apply to clean skin only.

These are just a few I can think of off the top of my head and I hope they help!

Parade Your Home: A Basic Apartment Cleansing

Ash, I hear you say, how exactly do you cleanse a big space like an apartment or a house? (I also hear you saying “I know, I know, everyone has a different method of cleansing, but how do you DO it?”). The principle of cleansing a space is to unstick negative energy, sweep out what you don’t want, and clear the space for the good vibes you want to fill it with. There are lots of methods for this, more than I can count - your elemental cleansings, your basic smoke burning, auditory unsticking of vibrations, and so on! Below is a comprehensive method that uses many of the senses to fully clean out a larger space. The below is a variation on a home cleansing that both Whitehurst and Dugan have used in their writing (Magical Housekeeping and Practical Protection Magic, respectively).

You Will Need:

A tray, a candle (white is a good choice, or black for protection, but use your own personal judgement), some incense (ideally clearing incense blends like white sage or cedar), water,  salt, your two hands for clapping purposes (or something else you like that makes a lovely single-note noise, like a bell or a gong. I accidentally found tapping my pestle against my cauldron lid makes a gorgeous tone.)

1. Get ready! Tidy up the house, open the windows, and center yourself. Make sure the air has somewhere to go when you push it out of your home, e.g., an open window or a door. You may like to sweep the floors with a broom and chase the dust outside.

2. Place your items on the tray. Move to the room you want to start in. Mix a pinch of salt into the water, light the candle, and light the incense.

3. Start by clapping once very loudly, or ringing your bell/gong/etc. This will get all the auditory vibes of the room “unstuck”.

4. Move counterclockwise (widdershins) around the room, as we’re trying to reduce (remove, really) existing energy. As you move, sprinkle your salt water lightly around the room. Make sure the light cast by the candle and the smoke of the incense permeates every part of the room.

5. When you’re done, thank the room, and move on to the next one. Repeat steps 3 and 4 in each room, moving counterclockwise, until the house or apartment is complete.

6. When you’re done, put your tray with the materials on it in the metaphorical center of your house (maybe on a dining table or coffee table). You can lay an offering of thanks, like a snowdrop or a little salt, on the tray.

7. It Is Done! Enjoy your fresh, new house!

Variations on the Spell

- Some people like to wrap the broom cleansing right into the full cleansing. You can do this by setting your tray down in the room and sweeping counterclockwise around the room.

- If salt water will stain your floor, use only the tiniest pinch of salt. If water will stain your floor, sprinkle a bit or use your thumb to imprint the water on doors and windows.

Happy cleansing!

(Note: I’m also tagging all my secular spell/Craft posts in the blog as “non-denominational” - bear with me as I backtrack and add! :>)

Your home/family life will be a bit rocky today because of a lack or breakdown of communication. Be cautious about what you say and how you say it to your family today. If a family member says something upsetting to you today, take a breath and a step back before you react. Chances are they didn’t mean it the way you think they meant it. Stay calm and find your zen. This will blow over soon.

Doors & Locks Protection Ritual

This protection ritual literally requires no supplies that you don’t have—unless you don’t have a door. (And, you know, the back part of my house used to be made of cardboard—so it’s possible.) Perform the ritual at each of the outside doors in your house, one door at a time.

  1. Open and close your door three times. Say: “This door opens to let out the bad and let in the good, and closes to protect my house and family from harm. For what gets past my wards, this door will be another obstacle. Let nothing enter without permission, and let unwelcome guest know when it’s time to move on. From the doors to the windows, from the hearth to the walls; this house is my own, and I am at no one’s mercy.”
  2. Turn each of the locks on each door three times. As you do so, say: “As this lock turns, let it strengthen my wards ans serve to protect my home and family. Let it stop intruders—human, non-human, and once-human—who would enter without my permission. From the locks to the chimney, from the bricks to the studs; this house is my own, and I am at no one’s mercy.”
  3. This protection should become stronger every time you close and lock your doors. (I continue to do each three times every night.) But, if you feel like the ritual has fizzled out, it’s easily repeated.

Cleansing Powder for Carpets and Rugs

I love having a clean, comforting apartment and scent is one of the biggest contributors to my soothing environment. I’ve been making this carpet cleaner for years and I got the idea from my mom. It’s super easy to make, cheap, and the scent will linger all day or a few days, depending on how strong you make it. All you need is the following:

  • Pure Baking Soda
  • Borax (optional, I don’t use it)*
  • A powder container
  • Essential Oils of your choice (I use my personal blend of lavender and vanilla)
  • Herbs or flowers (optional)
  • A vacuum cleaner (optional, I guess lol)

The simplest way to make this powder is to buy pure baking soda in a pre-packaged powder container (as shown). You can just pop off the lid, add your essential oils, shake, and you’re done! I buy this one from everyone’s favorite home goods store, BBB aka Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I add about 30 drops of essential oil per 12 oz/340 g container. If you’re using a box of baking soda, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 30 drops of essential oil. If you’re using borax and baking soda, combine 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of borax, and the same amount of essential oils as previously mentioned. You can, of course, add more or less depending on how strong you want the scent. You can also add some herbs or flowers like clove, lavender flowers, rose petals, etc. Sprinkle on your carpet/rug and let sit for about 20-30 minutes. Vacuum it up and you’re done!

Store your powder in a sealable powder shaker (you don’t want your scent to fade!) and shake well before each use.

For a magical boost, I sometimes put my oil under the moon to make moon oil before I add it to the powder. Different moon phases have different meanings and the power of the moon is modified by the sign it’s in, so choose the moon’s energy wisely! Here’s a list of essential oils and their meanings if you’re not sure where to start with your essential oil blend.

Enjoy and let me know if you like it!

*If you have pets, please be mindful of the essential oils you use and don’t use borax. Borax is toxic if ingested. I know some people might think this is an unnecessary note, but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

I’m so excited that I finally got this book and I’m starting my own in-home herb garden. I went to the farmers market a few weeks ago and got the Rosemary, red basil, and golden sage, then I was given the oregano as a gift from one of my coworkers. The pictures and info in this book are A M A Z I N G and I can’t wait to start learning.

Witchy Flora Stuff

So now that it’s warmer I’ve been getting more cacti & succulent on the back porch of the apartment but I just wanted to let any of you who want to get plants for witchy things know that there are lots of plants that can be useful for not only witch purposes this coming season!

Here are some examples of plants that have some extra bonuses to keeping around the apartment:

  • Aloe- Can be used in lotions and all those nasty sunburns that come with the summer season
  • Catnip- Repels mosquitos
  • Lavender- Attracts bees with and helps deter fleas and moths
  • Venus Fly Trap- In warmer seasons like spring and summer when mosquitos and flies are always out these are useful to help keep bugs away

I have other stuff too but I’ll prob make a longer list later

i love my aloe plant and can recommend it to anyone.

We used to have a number of aloe plants growing in our front yard. Being white Floridians, I lost count of how many times my family used the plants when we got home from the beach.
