To Prevent Nightmares

Wash an egg in cold water and, with a pencil, write the name of the person afflicted with bad dreams.

Put the egg in a dish, then place it on a nightstand close to the sleeping place of the person.

If the egg cracks or breaks, flush it down the toilet. Repeat the spell until the egg stays intact for 7 days. Flush the remaining egg.

Citrine Nightmare Preventative

Before going to sleep, hold a citrine tightly in your dominant hand and chant:

Stone of joyful yellow light

I give my dreams to you tonight

Grab the bad ones, the rest leave free

So that I may dream peacefully

Place the stone under your pillow.

To End Nightmares

To eradicate nightmares, empower three mullein leaves with the following chant, then place them under your mattress.

Herb of mullein, now absorb

Unpleasant dreams before they form

Bring to me a restful sleep

As I will, so mote it be

oven 350˚

1 stick of butter

½ cup cocoa powder 

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 TBSP rose water

½ cup flour

1 teaspoon salt

butter an 8x8 pan and set aside

in a large sauce pan over medium high heat

melt the butter

remove from the heat

add the cocoa powder and stir well

add the sugar, again stirring well

let the mixture cool for 5 minutes or so

add the eggs beating well after each egg

then add the rose water

in a small bowl mix the flour and salt together

pour into the wet ingredients and stir well

do not over beat just stir to combine, making sure there aren’t any flour spots left

bake for 25 minutes then turn oven off and let them cool 10 minutes

remove from oven and cool completely.

Optional:Glaze with chocolate.

Method For Protection From Undesired Spirits Or People

I have been working on my own way of bodily and territorial protection combining a few methods I’ve picked up over the years. Since the veil is thinner at Samhain, it’ll be easier to remove negative entities and invite positive energy to your home.

There will be some prep work first. The method is going to be useful in protecting your home from unwanted spirits and energies as well as protecting yourself from unwanted living people having too much access.

The items you’ll need for the overall method are:

Eggshells Black salt Life water 2 jars 1 smaller jar

Making Black Salt

First you need to make the black salt. You can buy it out there already made (remember we’re not talking about edible black salt sold for Indian food) but I’m a big proponent of witches doing for themselves. If you need something in your craft, you can find a way to harvest it naturally or make it.

There are a couple of ways you can do it.

Do you have an old black pot or cooking pan? Fantastic. You can do it the traditional way. Get sea salt or the purest form of salt you can find. Scrape the old black pot into it. Mix in the metal scrapings with your salt (obviously you should be okay with scraping up an old pot). Remember black salt doesn’t necessarily have to be totally black - it’s just the name for it. A lot of black salt can rage from amber to brown to full-on black.

If you don’t have an old black pot, fear not. Since I’m a devotee of the goddess Brigid, fire and hearth magick are very important to me. I’m comfortable working with fire. My preferred method is to mix the ashes from wood fires, charcoal, or protective herbs in with my sea salt. Don’t just use any herb ashes if you go the ashy herbal route. They need to have protective properties.

Store black salt in a glass jar if you can. I prefer glass for all of my storage. Dark things go in dark jars (this is one of my quirks - you can do your own thing if you don’t like dark glass jars) and I also let my black salt cure in a dark cabinet when I’m not using it.

For this protection ritual, take some of the black salt and mix it with crushed eggshells in a separate container. Crushed eggshells are traditionally used for protection as well.

Making Life Water

I don’t really know if this is an existing thing. I was taught to make this for cleansing purposes when I was rather young, so it just might be within my family tradition. If other people use it, that’s fantastic.

It’s easy. Mix three parts water to one part salt. I’m talking about natural salt, not black salt. With the Life Water, you’re symbolically recreating the basic building blocks of the human body - of the life force. That’s why we’re keeping this separate from the black salt because you don’t find black salt in the living. Purified water is best. I use moon water (water charged under a full moon).

Store your Life Water in a clear glass jar. Darkness isn’t necessary.

The Method

Alternate Method

If you have a specific person encroaching on your space too much, or someone who means harm, you can protect yourself. Take your black salt and crushed eggshell mixture and sprinkle a circle around the person. Make sure nobody sees you do it though, especially the person in question. Focus in your mind on saying, “I banish you from my space. May you never again recognize my face.” The process will need to be repeated over time.

Obviously you shouldn’t try to banish people from your life for minor issues. I only recommend using black salt for removal in serious situations. Use your best discretion.

Clementine Cake for Attracting Love & Happiness

As soon as I saw this recipe, I knew right away how easily it could be enchanted in a kitchen witch spell! And it’s very pretty, it would be sure to impress guests. I don’t know about you, but I just love citrus and looking at the picture makes me want to run to the grocery store and make this tonight ^_^

Oranges are great for attracting positive things into your home like happiness and love. Orange peel, blossoms, and seeds are commonly used in love sachets and other spells to encourage happy marriages. This recipe also has the added benefit of Almonds, which are commonly used in prosperity spells. 

How nice would this cake be to attract a happy stable romantic relationship into your life? Love and Prosperity are definitely good virtues to build a solid foundation. Oh, what a nice idea for a wedding cake! to wish happiness and love on a new marriage <3 Or even a dessert to celebrate a lovely anniversary for another happy year for a beautiful couple. That would be a great gift too. The possibilities are endless really, everyone needs love and happiness in any form! 

The recipe is Here and I will give some ideas below on how and where you could incorporate a little magic.

5 clementines  6 large eggs  1 cup white sugar  1 ¼ cup ground almonds (can use a food processor) 1 teaspoon baking powder

Place the clementines in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil, cover, and cook for 2 hours. Drain and cool. Cut each one in half and remove any seeds. Place them in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. 

As you work with the oranges remember to invoke their energies of love and happiness. You can stir the pot with a wooden spoon/kitchen wand, hover your hands over the ingredients, imbue them however works for you.

Heat the oven to 375°F. Butter and line an 8-inch springform pan.

I always take the opportunity to use butter in pots and pans to draw sigils or Reiki symbols first, then butter the pan the rest of the way. 

In a medium bowl, beat the eggs, then add the sugar, almonds, and baking powder. Mix well. Add in the clementines and beat until well-combined.

Always be conscious of the ingredients you’re adding, giving thanks, imbuing your intentions, invoking their energies of love, happiness and prosperity. 

Pour the mixture into the springform pan and bake for one hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean. You may have to cover it with foil after about 40 minutes to prevent the top from burning. Remove it from the oven and let it cool on a rack. When it is cool, remove the pan. 

While cooling, take the opportunity to imbue your intentions one last time. Feel free to make it as simplistic or ritualistic as you’d like. I usually start my spellcraft recipes with a fire incense over my hearth (stove) and a prayer to my kitchen goddess Brigid, and give thanks at the end for her assistance. I also like to end with a little “As I will it, so mote it be.“ 

I read that this cake tastes best if served the next day, but that’s up to you. I would wait to top it with whipped cream/cool whip and orange zest just before serving ;-)
