Calming Jar

Because sometimes, a witch just needs to remember to take a breath.

Materials:

  • Small jar with lid
  • Chamomile
  • Lemon Balm
  • Lavender
  • Spearmint
  • Caster’s nail clippings or hair

Find yourself a small jar and fill it with an equal-parts blend of Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Lavender, and Spearmint. To this, add a few of your nail clippings or a strand of your hair, and one good steady outward breath. (Don’t blow into the jar, that will just scatter things and make a mess. Just exhale long and slow, and try to release a little stress while you’re at it.)

Seal the jar and store it somewhere that it won’t be disturbed. Whenever you get those feelings of anxiety or you just can’t seem to simmer down, take the jar out and give it a shake, or pop the lid off and have a small sniff of the herbs inside. If it starts to smell funny or develops mold, discard the contents and clean the jar thoroughly, then start over.

Note: Please be aware of allergies when concocting your herb blend. If you are allergic to any of the components, please feel free to substitute other herbs or crystals with calmative properties.

Putting things under your pillow

By putting certain things underneath your pillow, you will allow those metaphysical properties to interact with your dreams, and your person all throughout the night, when you sleep upon that pillow. Here is a small list of constructs you can put underneath your pillow, that will provide to you certain energies, minds states, and physical stimulus throughout the night based on what they are:

  • Lapis lazuli under your pillow for awareness of your dreams, and vividness of those dreams.
  • Clear quartz under your pillow to wake up with more energy, after you awake from your sleep.
  • Bayleaf under your pillow in order to have more prophetic dreams.
  • Chamomile under your pillow in order to promote relaxation, and good  dreams.
  • Rose petals under your pillow in order to bring love into your waking life.
  • Peppermint under your pillow in order to promote relaxation, and vivid dreams.
  • Lavender under your pillow in order to promote calm, and in order for you to sleep well.
  • Anise under your pillow in order to prevent nightmares.
  • Rosemary under your pillow in order to prevent nightmares, and to bring deep sleep.
  • Garlic under your pillow in order to promote sleep well.
  • You can put a blade of grass, or a leaf underneath your pillow to promote growth, and change in your waking life.
  • Money under your pillow for wealth, and prosperity in your waking life.
  • You can put a picture of someone underneath your pillow in order to connect with them better.
  • You can put the name of someone underneath your pillow in order to connect with them better.
  • You can put all manner of sigil underneath your pillow in order to get the effect of that Sigil into your dreams, and waking life.

Despite being commonly known, Chamomile is not just a benign little flower that tastes sweet in your cup, it packs a powerful medicinal punch. Chamomile should not be thought of in terms of what specific diseases it can be used for, because there are too many uses to list, nor is is helpful to only think of what herbs can ‘do’. After reading though my favorite herb books, I summarize the actions of chamomile as being:

  • Relaxing nervine for states of tension
  • Aromatic and bitter for regulating digestion
  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy
  • Anti-microbial
  • Safe, tasty and suitable for everyone, including babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly
  • Matthew Wood says that “The fresh preparations preserve the oils, so they are more relaxing, the dried preparations are bitter and promote secretions to the stomach, G.I. and liver.”

Here are some of the chemical constituents present in chamomile and their generalized actions (mostly from Wood, but also from Simon Mills, David Hoffmann and Chanchal Cabrerra)

  • Flavanoids –  cooling and relaxing
  • Bitter sesquiterpene lactones – stimulate digestive juices
  • Volatile oils –  antipyretic, anti-spasmodic, can reduce histamine-induced inflammation
  • Mucilage – soothing, nutritious and immuno-stimulating
  • Amino acids, fatty acids and many more

JESUS TEA

So it’s Flu Season again, and this recipe for Tea To Fix What Ails You was given to me by a Christian friend, and I’ve taken to calling it JESUS TEA due to it’s miraculous properties.  Even though it, technically, contains no tea.  This tea is as caffinie-free as anything processed in a US plant can get, but be sure to check the provenance and all ingredients in case of allergies.

You will Need:

  • A Bigass Pot, becuase this is something you make in large quantities
  • working stovetop
  • those lil cloth sachets you use for wassail/empty teabags/those lil reuseable loose-leaf tea steepers.

Recipe:

  • about a quart of water
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • about half a lemon’s worth of juice
  • a shitwhack of honey- try to get as local as possible and generally the less-processed the better if you want to build a resistance to local allergens. If you have allergy concerns or don’t like the taste of honey, go ahead and use more processed stuff/another sweetener instead.
  • three tablespoons/three bags chamomile tea
  • three tablespoons/three bags rooibos tea
  • teaspoon crushed cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick (more if you like it spicier)
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne or white pepper

Bring water to a simmer in the pot.  Add the chamomile, rooibos and spices to steep about 4-5 minutes or longer if you like tea-flavored tar which given you have the flu you probably do.  Add Cider, Lemon Juice and Honey until dissolved.  Drink all of this in the course of an hour to stay hydrated, make more pots as needed or until you pass out.

FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS: gargle warm salt water first for as long as you can, it’ll break up the mucus in your throat and soothe the soreness.

This stuff is hecking delicious, and my dad claims it cured his cold. I’ve taken to drinking it just because it tastes good! Thank you for sharing! :D I also found that you can freeze this stuff in convenient single serving sizes, ready to be heated in the microwave when you don’t have enough spoons to make it fresh. Granted fresh is usually best for most food and drinks, but it’s still good.

I also calculated a single serving version, which I’m putting here in case anyone wants to make it that way:

  • 1 cup hot water
  • ¼ cup apple cider (or more, I prefer 1/3 cup)
  • 1 tbsp honey (or more, to taste)
  • a dash of lemon juice
  • ½ tsp spice mixture
  • 1 ½ tbsp tea mixture

Mix the spices together in one container, and mix the two kinds of tea together in another. Measure out of these the above amounts. (Don’t try to store the two things together, the spices will sink to the bottom and you won’t get the right measurements.)

Use a tea infuser/tea bag/cheesecloth/whatever to keep the herb bits from floating off into your drink. Steep for the usual 4-5 minutes, then add the cider, honey, and lemon.

Side note: ground cloves is cheaper for me so I use ½ tsp of that instead of 1 of whole. I also like cinnamon a lot so I use ¼ tsp ground cinnamon instead of a stick (also sticks are really expensive here). If you use a stick, break it into little pieces. The downside of ground cinnamon is that it kind of congeals if you don’t stir it periodically, so keep a spoon handy as you drink.

Since people have been asking for this (I guess the flu/common cold is going around agian), have it again, NOW WITH SINGLE SERVING SIZE, THANK YOU @snowfox102  for doing the math for me!

Is it possible to substitute the chamomile for something else?

Pretty much any herbal tea but mint will work?  Rose hip’s good, or you can just double the rooibos. You can even put in black or green tea.  I don’t becuase those both have caffiene and I want to be awake as little as possible when I’m sick.

What the absolute fuck is a shitwack of honey?

Once tea tarts cooling down*  start adding honey. Keep adding honey.   Your significant other or parents will notice and ask “Isn’t that enough honey?” “No.”  You rasp, throat raw. “I need the magic bug juice too heal me.” “I think we should check your fever again.” they say. “When I’m fucking done.”  You rasp, sounding like gollum with a four-packs-a-day habit.   Eventually, there will be enough.

that, is a “Shitwhack”

*boiling honey gets rid of 90% of it’s goodness, so let the tea cool down to drinking temp before adding honey.

“work smarter, not harder” productivity spell

this is a dry container spell i made during this weekend’s full moon to help with my productivity. however, i wanted to create something that would be useful for someone like me that needs calm, balance and peace in order to be productive. i also want to be productive particularly when it pertains to academic things and my job which is also research/academic based. i’ve found that i need a direction before i start my work or i will be a nervous wreck. this spell focuses not only on motivation, but the wisdom to discern between what i am just able to do and what i actually should do.

(note: this spell has two parts and i used a lot of things i had around, feel free to shorten it and augment it for what you can do and what you need.)

part i: candle dressing

what i used:

paprika - strength

five spice (cinnamon - attraction and luck; cloves - luck and prosperity; fennel - peace and blessings; black pepper - banishing negative energy; onion powder - banishing bad habits)

full moon water - manifestation and release

  1. combine the ingredients with a little bit of moon water to make a paste
  2. carve words or sigils into candle for productvity (i use tea lights that i pushed out of their containers)
  3. smear small amount of dressing onto candle and set it aside

part ii: container spell

what i used:

chamomile - balance and intuition

white tea - clarity and realization

elderflower - wisdom

mustard seed - faith, courage, endurance, and success

earl grey (black tea + bergamot) - strength, stability, expelling negativity, banishing; fortune, truth, justice

basil - courage, balance, and creativity

sage - wisdom (cleansing and healing)

chicory - countering negativity, intuition, time management

  1. using corresponding crystals (i used yellow calcite for intellect, sodalite for intuition and idealism, and lapus lazuli for intuition and intellect as well) i charged the container.
  2. then i layered the herbs (in no particular order) until the container is almost full
  3. before closing the container, i wrote a petition on a scrap of paper with symbols for productivity, peace and intuition then placed it on top of the herbs
  4. i then closed the container and recited verses from saraswati’s part of the devi mahatmyam (bless the spell with whatever you’d like)
  5. finally, i lit the blessed candle and placed it on top of the container to seal it. i also poured wax from a blue (focus, willpower) candle over the container, careful not to put out the tea light.

I placed the spell into a small blue bowl filled half way with full moon water. i’m not totally sure why, i just got the urge to do it and i try to follow those urges in my craft. after the candle went out and the container was properly sealed, i placed it on my desk. i already notice a little difference! grad school, here i come!

Anger dispersion magick tea

This can be used on you, or another person, but please make sure to ask said person before casting it towards them.

Supplies:

chamomile,

lavender,

honey or sugar,

amethyst, (optional)

agate, (optional)

and, if you want it to work quickly or if its an emergency, add ginger.

Directions:

if your supplies are limited, use a coffee filter as a tea bag. Put all your herbs into the bag, tie it off with a string or sew a thread to seal it. Boil water, pour water into cup, place bag into hot water and stir in sugar or honey.

All of this done with the intent to calm the anger of the one who drinks this tea.

Stir clockwise for good results and luck.

If you are using the stones, drop them into the tea, and stir with sugar or honey. (clean your crystals first) Strain stones and drink.

(edit: The intention you should infuse this with is lessening bouts of anger, and making it a lot more difficult to experience anger.)

Recipe: Josh’s “Feel Good” Tea

We’ve all had those days when we’re so sick we don’t want to do much. Between fits of rather painful coughing, sniffling, achiness, and difficulty breathing, I knew that I needed a good strong tea to help kick this flu in the rear. And that’s how I came to create my “Feel Good” blend - a nice, strong tea that makes you feel calm and relaxed before promptly knocking you out for a good nap.

Ingredients: -1 tbsp peppermint tea -1 tsp chamomile -1.5 tsp rosemary -1 tsp lavender -Honey (raw recommended) -pinch ground cinnamon -Boiling Water

Combine all of your herbs in a sachet and steep in the water for anywhere between 3 and 10 minutes for a strong tea. Add honey to taste and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top. Enjoy!

Witchy Notes: Peppermint is great for pain relief from coughing due to the menthol, chamomile helps to relax and encourages sleep. Rosemary is a great cough suppressant and also helps to ease aches and pain. Lavender helps to induce calm, allowing you to breathe easier. Honey and cinnamon both have antibacterial properties and are excellent health ingredients. Enchant your ingredients ahead of time as you see fit, so that your tea will have a bit of magic all to its own!

~ Teas to Drink Before Doing Divination ~

Hey guys! :D

So I am a lover of tea and divination. and sugar.

As a person with these likes, I have learned to mesh the two together! :D Here is a list of teas you can drink before doing divination :)

I only really put down teas I find to taste good, since drinking bitter/gross tea puts me in a bad mood xD Anyways, here’s the short little list I came up with! :)

Teas:

  • Jasmine Tea ~ is said to induce prophetic dreams, and is a good for divination involving major events, in my experience. Also very cheap. I got some for $2.00  at the grocery store, and it’s lasted me a good while! :)
  • Chamomile Tea ~ Calms the nervous system, gets rid of anxiety, and soothes the mind. I like to drink chamomile to help wind myself down before a reading.
  • Rose Hip/Petal Tea ~ Roses are wonderful, accessible, and taste amazing in teas! Did I mention that they work great for divination? :)
  • Mint Tea ~ Mint clears the mind, cleanses you of negative energies/entities, and is good for hose days when you feel foggy.

Additions to Your Tea:

  • Moon Water ~ Boil some moon water to make your tea with to harness the intuitive energies of the moon! :D It also cleanses, so double win :)
  • Gem Elixir ~ Pick a non-toxic, water-safe stone or two with divination-enhancing properties,  and make some gem elixir! Add this to your boiling water/use it as your water, and you’ve got some awesome tea! :D

Other Notes:

  • Stir clockwise and say a quick chant over your cup to draw in more energy and strength. Use something short, sweet, and to the point :)
  • Choose a tea-cup/mug/etc in a color that corresponds with divination/psychic abilities! :D
  • Charge your tea bags/boxes of loose tea in the moonlight for a boost!
  • Get creative!

**Some herbs/teas are not safe for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, have certain illnesses, or are otherwise at risk. Please check a credible website such as WebMD.com for the side effects, as well as advice/info on the suggested herbs. Stay safe!**

To keep unwanted dreams out of your nights

For Restful Sleep

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to ward off insomnia or induce sleep. Hopefully these can help. :)

Sleep Oil

  • ½ ounce carrier oil (sweet almond oil, apricot kernel, or olive work well)
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 12 drops bergamot
  • 3 drops cypress

To increase the benefits of your sleep, apply a few drops behind your ears, spreading the excess out over your jawline (you don’t need much, just a little dab will work). Do this immediately before bed. Please do a spot test on the back of your hand to make sure you’re not allergic.

Pouch For A Restful Night

Add these items to a pouch:

  • Dried hibiscus
  • Valerian
  • Chamomile flower
  • lavender
  • one small amethyst

Mix all of the above together in a small pouch and charge the pouch. Feel free to add a couple of drops of oil such as lavender, rose geranium, lemon balm or any other oil pertaining to sleep.

Sleep Jar

  • Blue or brown glass jar
  • 1/8 cup dried lavender
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • ½-¾ tablespoon ground orris root

After everything is well covered by the orris root, store with a tight fitting lid and keep it near your bedside. When you are having trouble sleeping, take out the jar, uncap it and inhale deeply its sweet aroma. Then set it aside, leaving it open on your bedside table, turn off the lights and sleep.

You can add a piece of moonstone, amethyst, blue lace agate, or blue tourmaline to the mix to make it more effective.

More Things You Can Do:

  • Drink Chamomile Tea before bed.
  • Can drink Valerian root tea or chew on a Valerian root
  • Try to stay on a regular sleep schedule
  • Try stress relieving activities such as meditation before bed and during free time

Cleansing & Calming Salt

Here is a quick recipe I made for some salt to cleanse my crystals/spell jars and also charge them with some calming energy at the same time!

Ingredients:

  • Salt (cleansing & purifying)
  • Lavender (calming, relieves anxiety)
  • Chamomile (calming, soothing)
  • Rosemary (anti-depressive)

Simply mix the salt and herbs (I used a mortar and pestle but you could just mix in a bowl) and use however you like to use salt for cleansing. Feel free to substitute for herbs with similar correspondences, or for whatever intent you would like the salt to have!

Bonus tip!

Add to a spray bottle for an easy way to cleanse and calm whatever space you’re in with a quick spritz!

Super Money Sachet

I had a really cool experience with this sachet! Until now, this sachet has been charging in a black drawstring bag with money, corresponding tarot cards, and an enchanted devil’s shoestring (so charging for about 3~4 days). Today, when I decided to use my tarot cards and check on the sachet, immediately after opening the black bag & smelling the sachet, I noticed a gold coin on my floor (the one pictured)… I have never owned  a $1 James Monroe coin before and I had just vacuumed so I have no idea how it got there! Immediately, I knew I had to share!!! I was going to wait until I had used it in my new serving job, but this was way to cool! It smells amazing and has lots of strong energy~!

  • Chamomile : Money
  • Patchouly : Money
  • Basil : Wealth
  • Elder : Prosperity
  • Lemon Balm : Success
  • Bay Leaf : To write your sigil

Enchant all of your herbs as necessary. On a bay leaf, create a sigil or write out intention. I personally created a sigil based off the intention. “I will make good money.” Burn the bay leaf and then add to enchanted herbs. Place into sachet and DONE!

To make this sachet more effective…

  • Bind with green ribbon/lace
  • Burn a green candle while creating this Sachet
  • Charge appropriately

How I charged my sachet…

I think how I charged this sachet largely influences its energy! I placed my sachet in a black drawstring bag (you could also wrap in cloth or put in larger jar) with the following items:

  • Money (I just put $2)
  • King of Pentacles
  • Ace of Pentacles
  • VII of Pentacles
  • Page of Pentacles
  • X of Pentacles
  • IX of Pentacles
  • Enchanted Devil’s Shoestring

The longer you charge your sachet, the more effective it will be! I hope everyone has positive results!
