Ecuadorian Hillstar (Oreotrochilus chimborazo) Ecuador 2017 by Luis Alcivar Via Flickr: Upon arriving to this species's Mars-like habitat at 4900 meters above sea level. I was dubious about getting any wildlife photo. Nonetheless, we explored a couple of lone patches of Chiquiragua flowers scattered around miles of volcanic rock and sand. It didn't took us long to stumble upon one of Ecuador's most desired hummingbird species. The orange color in its forehead and throat is polem from the Chiquiragua . This subspecies with a turquoise lower throat can only be photographed in Ecuador. The best birding and bird photo trips in Ecuador: www.sanjorgeecolodges.com
