One of my favourite commission arts. I rarely get orders for fanart, but when I do and when I love the character… ho boy, what a blessing!

I’ve been thinking a lot about Emmanellain recently and think I finally have my own take on him. Hear me out:

At face value, we see him as this childish noble who loves gossip and won’t do any hard work. He goofs off and when he does try to do something, it nearly always leads to him making it worse. He has Honoroit to watch over him to make sure he does his work and stays out of trouble. He dislikes combat but his strengths lie in information gathering. But overall he is a very cheerful guy.

Now what if I told you that I believe that he is depressed, with a lot of internalised anger?

Unhygienic Estinien is Fanon, Not Canon - A Quick Analysis

Since my recent FFXIV post is getting attention (especially since a screenshot of the Tumblr version was reposted on Twitter by someone who disagreed), I’m taking this opportunity to show why “Unhygienic” Estinien is a fanon concept based on false assumptions from the fandom.

Personally, I feel the “Dirty Estinien” jokes got old a long time ago. So have plenty of other FFXIV fans. It’s not a big deal really, but it annoys me that people insist that Estinien being an unhygienic person is somehow irrefutable canon. In reality, there’s a lot against it:

god it would have been soo easy for estinien to be that rival character refusing to let you get in the way of his revenge. im so glad they did the exact opposite bc it was so refreshing and also hilarious in the drg quests where it was like "there have never been TWO azure dragoons!" and rather than being threatened estinien is like excellent... nidhogg will die TWICE as fast....

It was an utter delight to be commissioned for this.

I think this little dialogue piece really shows us how Estinien and the Warrior of Light are similar in many aspects.

Both of them are famous heroes with hard earned titles. Their people are expecting so much from them, they both wield an unnatural power which makes people see them as unbreakable and unbeatable. Both Eorzean Alliance and Ishgard send them to their enemies (Primals for the Warrior of Light and Dragons for Estinien) treat them as precious weapons.

That is why Estinien opposes Alphinaud when he offers the Warrior of Light can deal with Ravana easily. Because he knows even the mightiest heroes has limits. And the Warrior of Light is a person not a weapon that can be discarded or replaced easily.
