#Repost @girlsreadtheworld ... "Think twice before doing anything you regret, and never, ever hate anyone." 🙌 That's what Georgia Gilmore's mother taught her and she lived by those words. She also lived by the gospel of cooking, and especially baking - whenever someone needed something sweet, Georgia whipped together one of her famous pies. But never did she imagine that her delicious pies would come in such handy. When the Montgomery Bus Boycott began, Georgia began baking her pies to sell for money to support the movement. But because it was dangerous to be involved in the boycott, Georgia kept all of her helpers secret, and whenever anyone asked where the money came from, she always said, "It came from nowhere." ❤️ And so Georgia and her secret helpers became known as the Club from Nowhere. The Club raised so much money that it was able to buy cars and gas for the people who were boycotting the buses! As the story goes, though, once word got out that Georgia was involved, she was fired from her job. But Dr. King (yes, that one) encouraged her to start her own business - after all, she already knew everyone loved her cooking. So she did, and her restaurant brought the people of Montgomery together again - this time both black and white. 💪 We loved reading Georgia's story - one I'd never known - and how she sustained the boycott with her pies.
