I want more Wanda/Natasha interactions and I’ll tell you why: Natasha has every reason to be terrified of Wanda. She knows what Wanda can do, one wave of her hand and some glowy red magic and Natasha is reduced to a brainwashed Red Room agent.

Moreover, Natasha represents everything that Wanda fears about herself. She knows that she can bring out the very worst in people, and that she’s a physical embodiment of everything they fear. So their budding friendship, or any sisterly interactions could be a very tangible manifestation that they’re both moving past their histories and their pain and learning how to put it all behind them.

Plus can you imagine the trouble they could get into with Wanda’s telekinesis and Natasha’s super-spy skills? They would be the prank queens of the Avengers, and whenever anyone hears them giggling or whispering in Russian they immediately look for an exit and sleep with one eye open.

It would be glorious

This is actually absolutely hilarious because I kid you not I wrote almost the exact same thing in one of my drafts and I was just about to publish it on my blog.

I would have loved to see more interaction between them in Civil War, especially since the connection between the two of them during the New Avengers training would be very interesting. I had this HC that Natasha wouldn’t even look Wanda in the eye for a while, not necessarily because she is scared of Wanda, but horrified about what she can do.

I have a HC that before the New Avengers training even started, that when she was staying in Clint’s house, after Wanda attacked her, the visions would come back dancing at night.  The visions had always been there, in the back of her mind. There were some nights where she had to handcuff herself to the bed just to feel a sense of normalcy (and even Clint didn’t know that one). But after Wanda attacked her, everything came back, flooding all at once. While she had to do her best to hide it from the other Avengers, she couldn’t hide it from herself. In such a high-stakes and emergency extraction from a mission, she obviously didn’t bring her hand-cuffs with her to Clint’s farmhouse. That whole timeline (however long she was at Clint’s house) was like a daze. No-sleep, mental torture, and tears would do that to you.

And Natasha Romanoff never cries.

She tried to hide this from Clint’s children, but Clint, knowing Natasha, picked up that something was wrong. Let’s just say that he did his best to keep Wanda away from Natasha. (This may have resulted in some very deep and touchy conversations with Clint and Wanda late at night - about not only justifying to Wanda that she is a good person, but reassuring her that Natasha’s avoidance of her wasn’t personal; even if he didn’t believe that himself).

I want to see the anxiety in both Natasha and Wanda’s eyes when they first “meet” each other for the first time, knowing the damage that has just been done. I want to see Natasha’s reaction when she is asked to be the second hand with Steve in training the new recruits. I want to see her slowly come to terms with Wanda, to forgive her for what she did, no matter how difficult. Because Ultron had gotten to Wanda’s head, just like the Red Room had been in Natasha’s. Wanda was (in the MCU) motivated by the death of her family. Natasha never truly had one until she found the Avengers.

I want to see the awkward exchanges, the avoidance turning to pointers during training. I want to see Natasha teaching Wanda some of her infamous moves (though she keeps the Death by Thighs one to herself), but I also want to see Wanda teaching Natasha a few things. I want to see a hatred of a past experience turn into something beautiful, where both of them can forgive themselves and each other for their past actions and work to make a better world.

plus, pietro died for clint. i imagine to some level natasha must feel indebted to wanda. wanda lost her best friend so nat could keep hers

Honestly. I feel like all the Avengers assumed that Wanda and Natasha would just kind of avoid one another, but I also headcanon that Wanda basically lives with the Bartons and refuses to go a week without seeing Nathaniel Pietro (and she always calls him by his full name, lbr) so they have to run into one another eventually.

So maybe one night Natasha shows up at the Barton farm and Wanda disappears into her room. No one really comments on it, and Natasha has a good time with Laura and Clint and the kids, but after she helps put the children to bed and has a nightcap with Laura, she goes to Wanda’s room. And Clint’s holding his breath, half waiting for things to get violent, but Wanda opens the door for her and closes it.

Natasha doesn’t stay long and doesn’t say much, just gives Wanda the picture that Pietro used to carry around with him. It’s the only one left of the Maximoffs, and Natasha went to get it from wherever it ended up after the battle of Sokovia. After that, there’s a kind of understanding between them.

Plus, Nathaniel Pietro is going to be the single most protected child in the universe, named after a spy and the man that gave his life to save his father. I imagine so many shopping dates where Wanda and Natasha go crazy and come home with ridiculous amounts of presents for the kids. I mean, if anything, they would bond over how much they love that kid.

did anyone else notice the guitar in Wanda’s room? I feel like her sensitivity and abilities would really lend themselves to music and teaching herself to play the guitar would be a great way for her to cope with the loss of her brother and everything else that’s happened

and because we all know how much i love my musical Natasha headcanon I bet Natasha wanders in on Wanda playing one day and starts humming along. Which, of course, leads to Wanda crudely picking the notes to an old Sokovian lullaby, which is similar enough that Nat can follow along. Sometimes Bucky joins them.

Once, Clint catches Tony about to barge in on the three of them and hauls him away before he can say or do anything stupid. Because honestly, Clint has gotten used to having Tony around and it would be unfortunate for him to be reduced to a bloody stain on the carpet for interrupting the therapeutic jam session of three scariest/most powerful people they know

i feel like wanda and nat would just be insufferable about winter. like, lord help you if you complain about New York weather in January because they will be on you like white on rice and you will be mocked until you regret ever learning to speak

“Oh you’re cold, Stark? Here? Where it’s balmy 21 degrees and you can go outside without worrying about frostbite? Did you hear that Wanda? Stark is cold.” And then they just giggle and talk shit in Sokovian for the rest of the day

Even better bit to your Natasha/Peter headcanon is that she teaches Peter how to fight Black Widow style. I mean, Peter has this incredible strength and agility, but is rough around the edges when it comes to hand to hand combat. That'd be so cool...

this wouldn’t surprise me at all. like, all of a sudden having superpowers doesn’t lend itself to knowing how to fight. you can still trip over your own feet with spider-like abilities.

can you just imagine the fuck ups that Natasha would witness when she trains him? Like he punches at her so sloppily that she literally just has to step out of the way to dodge it, but his super strength leads to momentum that propels him into - and through - the opposite wall. i imagine there would be this beat of silence before natasha pisses herself laughing and has JARVIS send a copy of the footage to the whole team

Don’t ask me why but I am so fixated on this mental image of Natasha brushing Wanda’s hair. I feel like maybe it’s something Pietro used to do when she got upset and overwhelmed and it makes her feel calmer, especially since she’s So Bad at physical contact considering the fact that anytime she touches someone, all their secrets spill into her head.

And Natasha never really knows what possesses her to pick up the brush on Wanda’s bedside table and start running it through the girl’s hair - maybe Wanda left some of herself inside Natasha when she was messing around in there, I don’t know - but Wanda almost cries the first time and it becomes a post-mission tradition.

Side note: Tony has totally walked into Natasha’s bedroom when she was brushing Wanda’s hair and he was /this/ close to cracking a joke but when he caught Natasha’s eye her gaze promised so much pain and misery if he uttered a single word that Tony just snapped his mouth shut and closed the door.

okay but Steve showing up on Natasha’s door on the anniversary that Bucky went back under. And she’s supposed to be in the wind, and he knows that he’s putting her in danger by coming, but dammit, Steve needs her. Sam is his best friend, but Natasha will always understand him in a way that Sam just doesn’t, and that’s okay.

Natasha opens the door and sweeps him into a hug without a word, just lets Steve, this massive titan of a man, weep into her shoulder like a child. And finally, when the tears subside for the moment, she takes his hand and they go to the couch and sit in silence. Natasha never tries to make smalltalk, or try to fill the silence and Steve is just so grateful

He stays with her that night, and while he catches a few hours of sleep, she texts T’Challa (if you don’t think they stay in touch you can fight me) and already tries to arrange for Steve to have access to Bucky whenever he’s ready

I feel like Natasha would have a huge problem with Tony recruiting Peter. Sure, he was taken out of the fight because he could really get himself hurt, but he didn't even know what he was up against - see his surprise at Bucky's metal arm. She knows what it's like to be a child soldier and to be manipulated into fighting in conflicts she wasn't equipped for. Peter was given a choice, but Tony basically shanghaied him into the fight - I mean, would you say no if fucking Iron Man showed up at your door? Nah. (I also imagine a scene after the fight where Natasha slams Tony up against a wall and hisses "You are not pulling that kid into our world again" and Tony doesn't argue because he likes living, thanks) I feel like she keeps an eye on him and makes sure he's doing okay. Not just in fights, but in school. Peter starts taking Russian as his language elective and Natasha sneaks in through his window to help him study. They also work on hand to hand combat, but mostly Russian verb conjugations. Eventually, Natasha is over so often that Aunt May begins setting a place for her at the table, and May sleeps better at night knowing that the scariest woman in the world is keeping an eye out for her nephew

okie so i want to talk about the evolution of Tony and Natasha’s relationship, because they couldn’t have gone from “You’re fired.” “That’s not your call.” to Natasha literally siding with him against Cap without some serious bonding

  • i imagine that Natasha requested to be off of his case as soon as he knew she was SHIELD. the game’s up, her cover’s blown, and she wants nothing to do with this moronic narcissist any longer
  • i also imagine that Fury insists that she stay with him as Natalie, prompting the biggest - and probably only - fight they’ve ever had
  • it’s also probably the only fight she’s ever lost, and so she whiles away the hours at Stark Industries by calling Clint and complaining about all the asinine shit that Tony does
  • there’s probably a moment where Pepper pulls her aside and asks her to keep an eye on Tony bc being a CEO doesn’t give her a lot of time to look out for him, and it’s the first time Natasha sees Tony’s issues as more than just words in his file
  • fast forward to post-Avengers, Natasha’s allowed to be herself around Pepper and Tony but there’s still (even after everything) this wedge of mistrust between them
  • but god dammit if she isn’t invested now. she’s seen what he’s willing to do to keep people safe, and she’ll be damned if he’s gonna do it alone. so she does what she does best:
  • she spies.
  • flies under the radar.
  • does recon.
  • just keeps an eye on things because she’s seen firsthand how damaged tony is and despite the fact that he doesn’t trust her, she’s not going to let him face any of this alone
  • i also like to think that it’s pepper that forgives her first, and they make a habit of having drinks and basically just talking and enjoying each other’s company (nat is also pepper’s emergency number in case shit really hits the fan)
  • then after IM3, i feel like Natasha would be there during one of Tony’s panic attacks, and just appear out of thin fucking air, rubbing his back and talking about everything and nothing until he can breathe again.
  • they never really address it, but she’s no longer persona non grata after that - Tony also finds a bottle of anti-anxiety meds on his counter one morning. “They help -N.”
  • and somewhere along the line she stops lurking and just hangs out around the mansion, and tony gets to talking to her about, well, everything, and she knows how scared he is, how much he needs to have accountability, and she knows she can’t always be that for him

what im saying is i really want a movie dedicated to their relationship so i can wrap my head around her siding with tony - bc there is so much potential that’s wasted in the MCU bc they hate utilizing natasha for anything other than weird romance plots and as their Strong Female Character ™
