okie so i want to talk about the evolution of Tony and Natasha’s relationship, because they couldn’t have gone from “You’re fired.” “That’s not your call.” to Natasha literally siding with him against Cap without some serious bonding
- i imagine that Natasha requested to be off of his case as soon as he knew she was SHIELD. the game’s up, her cover’s blown, and she wants nothing to do with this moronic narcissist any longer
- i also imagine that Fury insists that she stay with him as Natalie, prompting the biggest - and probably only - fight they’ve ever had
- it’s also probably the only fight she’s ever lost, and so she whiles away the hours at Stark Industries by calling Clint and complaining about all the asinine shit that Tony does
- there’s probably a moment where Pepper pulls her aside and asks her to keep an eye on Tony bc being a CEO doesn’t give her a lot of time to look out for him, and it’s the first time Natasha sees Tony’s issues as more than just words in his file
- fast forward to post-Avengers, Natasha’s allowed to be herself around Pepper and Tony but there’s still (even after everything) this wedge of mistrust between them
- but god dammit if she isn’t invested now. she’s seen what he’s willing to do to keep people safe, and she’ll be damned if he’s gonna do it alone. so she does what she does best:
- she spies.
- flies under the radar.
- does recon.
- just keeps an eye on things because she’s seen firsthand how damaged tony is and despite the fact that he doesn’t trust her, she’s not going to let him face any of this alone
- i also like to think that it’s pepper that forgives her first, and they make a habit of having drinks and basically just talking and enjoying each other’s company (nat is also pepper’s emergency number in case shit really hits the fan)
- then after IM3, i feel like Natasha would be there during one of Tony’s panic attacks, and just appear out of thin fucking air, rubbing his back and talking about everything and nothing until he can breathe again.
- they never really address it, but she’s no longer persona non grata after that - Tony also finds a bottle of anti-anxiety meds on his counter one morning. “They help -N.”
- and somewhere along the line she stops lurking and just hangs out around the mansion, and tony gets to talking to her about, well, everything, and she knows how scared he is, how much he needs to have accountability, and she knows she can’t always be that for him
what im saying is i really want a movie dedicated to their relationship so i can wrap my head around her siding with tony - bc there is so much potential that’s wasted in the MCU bc they hate utilizing natasha for anything other than weird romance plots and as their Strong Female Character (TM)
Guess who cut all their hair off? (Hint: it me)

I want a scene where Matt is at the end of his rope. He’s on the warpath, he’s out for blood. Maybe it’s another Big Bad surrounded by his followers, but Matt doesn’t care. He rips through them like they’re made of paper until he finally comes face to face with the one he came for. The fight is bloody and brutal and Matt is tired - tired of of seeing people get hurt, of being hurt, tired of always being a step behind, tired of having to always walk the path of the righteous and getting nothing but shit for it.
Matt’s going to kill him. It’s a choice, and he’s made it. His enemy will never hurt anyone again, even if it damns him straight to hell. Matt raises his baton to strike the killing blow and -
He doesn’t hear the shot coming. So intent on his mission that he misses the telltale click of an assault rifle preparing to fire. For a moment there’s a blaze of pain, but it’s just a graze, a love tap at most. There’s another shot and the bullet finds its way into the Big Bad’s forehead.
“I told you, Red, there’s no coming back from killin’.” Frank says from an adjacent rooftop, already packing up his gun. “You leave that to me. Keep that Catholic soul intact while you still got one.”
They’ve never had a word for what they are. ‘Boyfriends,’ doesn’t hold enough weight, and frankly, getting married would take a lot of time and paperwork - and Fury would have a conniption - so they can’t call themselves husbands. And then one of them hears the term: “soul mates”
Their next interview is insufferable.
“So how would you describe - ”
“Soul. Mates.” Bucky says before the Fox News bobblehead can even finish.
“You mean...platonically?” It’s almost sad how hopeful the reporter looks.
“Spiritually, emotionally, romantically,” Steve cuts in, holding Bucky’s hand pointedly. “Soul mates.”
“We fuck too. All the time,” Bucky adds with a shit-eating grin. The reporter goes green and the network ends the interview on account of “technical difficulties”

Let’s be real thought, no one is going to survive this movie. And I don’t mean us fans in a #ZOMG #ded kind of way.
In the end, what happens if Steve dies? All fighting aside, he and Tony are friends. They mean something to one another, which is why this is all so tragic. If Steve dies, Tony will never recover. He will almost certainly lock himself away, with nothing but his murderous Iron Man suits for company, drinking himself to death. He will become a shell of his former self, and General Doucheface will get what he wanted: a neutered Avengers. Because you know Natasha and Clint would never forgive Tony - for all Natasha’s desire for regulation thus far, she’s by and large Steve’s friend. She’ll disappear into the ether and Clint will probably go with her, because in the end all they ever had was each other. Not to mention that Bucky will most certainly lose any anchor to his old self and spiral. Worst case scenario, he reverts back to the Winter Soldier without Steve to keep him grounded, and has to be put down.
New scenario: What about Tony? If he’s killed at the end of all this, Steve will be destroyed. In the trailer, he keeps saying that it doesn’t have to be a fight, he keeps apologizing. He doesn’t want to fight anyone, he never has. He’s just unable to walk away and he’s got enough guilt for the entire city of New York. Even with Bucky, he’ll waste away, wishing things could be different, until he’s so hollow and numb that living is just too much effort and he fades entirely. Without Cap and Iron Man, the rest of the team will scatter, and then the world will have to face its fears without them.
And then something presented by @sokovia. Thanks for this Jenn. And by thanks I mean meet me in the pit. Now, Natasha’s death may seem trivial to the powers that be - I mean, she was a traitor, a spy, and assassin, there was no way she wasn’t going to die bloody - but to Tony and Steve (and me) she’s hope. Hope that people can change, hope that even the darkness can create light. For Steve, she’s a friend and proof that Bucky is going to be okay, and he will never stop mourning her. For Tony, she’s the voice of reason, someone to keep him in check and make sure he takes care of himself. And if she’s gone, they lose hope, and they spiral. Not to mention that Clint will never recover. I don’t give a damn about the farm, if Natasha dies, the heart of the Avengers has been cut out and they all die with her.
No one survives this war.
By day: flannel wearing bisexual potato By night: literal queer vampire demon (TM)
Once everything settles, Bucky slips a note under Tony’s door:
Sorry I tried to shoot you in the face. To be fair, you were acting like a jackass.

PS: This was Natasha’s idea. I think it’s stupid.
PPS: I said we should go a few rounds and just call it even
"Kill the Starks.” Bucky remembers the order. He remembers the deed. He remembers the mangled bodies of Howard and Maria Stark as he executed his mission.
He remembers the punishment for not finishing the job and leaving the child alive. The child that was supposed to be in the car with them.
And he feels the familiar, detached sense of relief as he finally takes aim at Tony Stark and fires. Mission completed.
