Basically...
The Silmarillion is a story about a young dedicated singer, who gets called out by his father for having his own song. And since that makes him so angry, he decides to change his style
So he goes full metal (pun not intended) and rebelious and starts to battle all his former friends over the best music style.
Until finally, he gets Diamond (Silmarill) status with his AngBand (pun most definetly intended)

Something in the young queen drew him immediately. The way she walked through what no one else could survive. Dragon’s fire. It did not touch her as it did everything else, it would not scar her as it did so many others. It was a power that fascinated and terrified Thranduil both.
