Order and Chaos

The dualism that exists in Norse mythology is not an opposition of good versus evil, but order versus chaos

Along with many other polytheisticreligions, this mythology lacks the predominant good-evil dualism of the monotheistic Middle Eastern traditions. Thus, Odin and Hel are not seen as pure opposites, Loki is not primarily an adversary of the gods, though he is seen to delight in causing Thor’s plans to go awry. Likewise, the giants are not so much fundamentally evil, as they are rude, boisterous, and uncivilized. Thus, the dualism that exists is not an opposition of good versus evil, but order versus chaos.

Reminds me of the fact how gods in other polytheistic religions are never “good” or “evil” either. Even gods of death or destruction tend to be either balanced by other gods or are, in fact, also the gods of creation and change.

Duality is such an interesting and fun thing, I wish people embraced it more both in life and in art (writing or otherwise).

Artemis and Apollo are 1) archery gods, 2) twins, and 3) immortal so they definitely regularly just shoot each other in response to like, bad puns and other incredibly petty shit

Midgard is…quaint, in its way. There are aspects that I enjoy immensely, your arts are enjoyable, certainly creative, and some of you bring great amusement with your foolish behavior. Though other times I wonder how it is you’ve all survived one another with your blind flailings through your lives. I feel your people really could do with a firm, guiding, hand such as myself if you wish to continue as a species.

“And if guiding us is what you intend to do, how would I expect to live on earth Loki? Would you make it a better place? Or would I be in chains..living as a slave or whatever you’d call it” I simply gave him a quizzical expression before swaying my body, shy but curious about him.

“There are many books of my people, some more complimentary to myself than others. No matter, few if any are truly and wholly accurate and I’m uninterested in speaking on literature at the moment. As you yourself confess, none do me justice anyhow.” His eyes narrow. “You sound like my brother. Always insisting I be better, as if I alone am not enough…No, I’ve not. I don’t appreciate being under anyone’s orders and certainly not those the likes of Roger or Stark. If their desires align with my own I’m open to working with them however. With them, not as one of them.

“You make it sound as if those two are mutually exclusive…” His grin comes slow, dark. “I assure you, they are not. Children do not live unhappy lives because they are denied their desire of running into the street or made to do chores. Those who show obedience to their ruler, to me, will live wonderful lives where they need not care about a thing as I will happily provide for them. Those who might argue, fight what is best for them, may be less pleased with their lives, but only because they’ve made it so.” His smile softens. “You would not fight me, would you, my little Midgardian? You seem far too intelligent, far too mature, to make a fuss over a god’s few simple rules and requests should he rule.”

((OOC: Oh, haha, well, yes, I’ve RP’d before, it’s mostly the formatting I was unsure of, but it seems relatively easy and straightforward. as we go, haha! And thank you…Loki appears quite interested in and delighted by you, lol! 😉))

Looking at you intently, I simply listen - my lips slightly parted upon hearing your explanation. “ @wickednerdery You’re simply much more interesting than the books, or so called stories Mr…Infact you seem…misjudged” I simply exhaled, my shoulders dropping followed by my gaze.

“I obviously was mistaken - I thought you would rather have us locked away, neglected… And that your impressions on midgardian’s were cruel and pathetic - Forgive me, I would consider intrigued by the thought of you ruling now you put it that way….and If I was returned with simple rewards and pleasures I would kneel and obey if it pleased you in every way possible”

My gaze locked onto his before a calm yet gentle smile complimented my features. He sure was an elegant and attractive creature.

“Oh dear, @wintertink, I’m nothing if not interesting,” he smirks, chuckles, then grows more serious at the mention of being misjudged. “More than you can imagine, but that’s what happens when you’re disallowed to write your own story, I’m afraid.

“What would be the point of locking everyone up, my little Midgardian? That’s not ruling, that’s...imprisoning. Any fool with the smallest amount power can do that. See, this is why your people tend to consider me evil and villainous, they listen to all those foolish tales from others!” He takes a deep breath, smiles. “Some of you are most certainly both those, but not all. As I said, Midgardians are merely in need of a proper leader, a true ruler, who can look past those petty things you fret over and to the bigger picture. The picture that will, ultimately, keep your species alive. All I ask is you obey, as one would any king or god.”

Loki steps forward, closes in, and gave a shark’s-tooth grin. “It most certainly would please me, dear child...Perhaps you’d like to kneel now? ...For practice...”
