‘ In a scene like this, it seems to me that the stakes are so high, the passions involved are so extraordinary, that the kind of acting moments touched on by these two are pleasing and unusual in a film like this. They give it some ballast. They are the kind of weight against which the comedy - the fun of so much of the rest of it - sits, and is offset, and that is a necessary balance. When you put these two [actors] together to do something like this, I think you are blessed.’  Kenneth Branagh, Thor DVD extras

Autism acceptance month, day 2

To celebrate autism acceptance month, I’m going to post something positive about autism every day through April.

Did you all know that actor and artist Sir Anthony Hopkins came out as autistic last year?

Some people might think that being autistic would make you a worse actor because we struggle to understand facial expressions and change the tone of our voices. Those people would be wrong.

His autism is actually exactly what made Hopkins such a good actor. Because he often struggles to understand people and their mannerisms, Hopkins likes to closely observe the way other people interact and analyze everything about them- their facial expressions, their tone, their use of body language- in order to replicate them whenever he is forced into social situations. In a certain sense, Hopkins has been acting his whole life.

Hopkins’ detailed observations of the way people interact and emote wouldn’t be possible without his autism, and he translates all of that into his acting. Just watch this video about a scene from ‘Westworld’ as an example:

When asked if Hopkins thought his autism helped make him a better actor, he nodded and said;

“I definitely look at people differently. I like to deconstruct, to pull a character apart, to work out what makes them tick and my view will not be the same as everyone else.”

Happy April to all autistic and neurodiverse people! I hope you all have a wonderful month.

He’s one of my favorite actors, how did I not know this?!

Way to represent Mr Hopkins! 😊

Five Celebrity Crushes

I was tagged by @lucifers-trash-stash (like forever ago, lol) to list five celebrity crushes I don’t get to talk about that often and then tag five others to do the same.

I’ll tag @wadeyourebarelyalive @zoesmama2024 @fancydaddyfic @losethehours and @vizhi0n if you guys are interested <3

Now, in no particular order, 5 celebs I love, but actually don’t talk about as much as others, lol!

1. Anthony Hopkins: Loved him since I first saw him in The Silence of the Lambs and, I suspect, he was the start of my being attracted to older men, haha!  (Also he’s a great artist and seems a generally pleasant and lovely man.)

2. Jessica Chastain: I only just discovered her a few years back from her part in Zero Dark Thirty, but damn she made an impact.  She does an amazing job with strong, but still empathetic, characters and, off-screen, refuses to take any of the bullshit so many female actors are put through.

3. Alan Rickman: Die Hard’s Hans Gruber...’nuff said.  Really though, I’ve seen a ton of his films and loved him in every one.  He’s played amazing villains, but also really pulled off sweet characters too...and, to boot, he was another that costars discussed being utterly charming.

4. Kurt Cobain:  Probably a first (non-character/actor) crush of mine.  I was big into grunge and alternative music as a kid and thought Cobain was a complete genius.  Dude spoke to me on a spiritual level, guys, and I still have Nirvana and Cobain stuff to this day.

5. Keira Knightley: First recognized her in Bend It Like Beckham (first saw her in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) and immediately wanted to be her and be with her, haha!  I always enjoy watching her onscreen and she seems pretty down to Earth so...there you go.
