Please consider~

A Great Trope: A Whumpee who was *trained* to only eat and drink from the Whumper’s hand (or only on their orders). So they refuse to eat or drink anything unless it’s fed to them by the Caretaker (bonus if the Caretaker doesn’t realise, or repeatedly forgets).

Alternative 1: A suspicious Whumper surrounded by enemies who only eats food prepared for them by their beloved and trusted Whumpee (bonus if the Whumpee ends up being the one to poison the Whumper, or escapes and leaves the Whumper unable to eat).

So, after rescue, the Whumpee insists on preparing food for the Caretaker and is insulted and hurt when the Caretaker makes their own food/eats food made by other people.

Alternative 2: A Whumpee trained to only accept food from the Whumper, except the Whumper quickly grows bored of this time-consuming and messy business, and enlists a guard/servant to feed to Whumpee instead.

Does the guard/servant take care to feed the Whumpee good food, often and enough? Or do they give the Whumpee scraps, frequently forget, deliberately feed them bad/poisoned/out-of-date food, or food that the Whumpee hates/is allergic to? Does the Whumper care?

So, with the Caretaker, is the Whumpee extremely nervous of eating Caretaker’s food/food given to them by others? Or do they eagerly accept anything given to them by the Caretaker, without reserve (bonus if the Caretaker accidentally or on purpose gives the Whumpee gone-off/bad food and the Whumpee’s trust in Caretaker is shattered).

Alternative 3: A Whumpee who was kept on an extremely strict diet of bland, tasteless and/or very healthy food, regardless of what the Whumpee themself liked to eat.

After rescue, the Whumpee might struggle with:

- stomach upsets from too rich food, given to them by the Caretaker, or accidentally picked out by themself.

- a defiant Whumpee eagerly anticipating eating ice-cream and pizza and delicious foods again, only to find that they taste wrong, and make the Whumpee very sick

- an obedient/broken Whumpee who continues to seek out bland, tasteless food, choosing to buy that for themself even when they have freedom to do otherwise, because it’s now all they remember (bonus if the Caretaker visits the Whumpee one day and is horrified at what they eat. Bonus bonus if the Caretaker is a chef and is professionally horrified and takes quiet pride in reintroducing Whumpee to nice food again)

- a Whumpee eating spicy food and being horrified at how much it burns, either because they’ve *never* had spicy food before and believe their mouth is genuinely on fire, or because they used to eat all sorts of spicy food before and now can’t eat any (bonus if a cruel side character notices Whumpee’s bland food and spikes it with chilli as a mean prank).

- a Whumpee wanting to eat food that’s special to them (ie. a Christmas dinner, a special family recipe, a traditional food important to their culture, etc.) and can’t.
