Whumpee pushing themself harder than they've ever pushed to get this crucial objective done, single-minded and driven, shrugging off the others' worried warnings that they're really in no condition to keep at it like this, until it's finally over and they can only manage a little gasp of relief before dropping like a ton of bricks
Whumpee sliding down either semiconscious or unconscious against a wall 👏👏👏
Murdoch Mysteries - 5x04 "War on Terror"
Whumpee saying “Thank you” right as they’re passing out because they know Caretaker will catch them
Love it when Whumpee wakes up and they're all disoriented and everything is spinning overhead and their head and back hurt from being jostled and they suddenly realize someone's got their leg and they're being dragged along the ground like a sack of potatoes

Helllllo to my favourite crime and thriller encyclopedia 💖 adore this blog, SO much.
Quick question oh guru - If a person were to fall/be thrown into a body of water (in this instance, a pool from poolside so not a big drop) after being strangled and were allllmost at the point of unconsciousness already, would they sink or still likely float to the surface? They let their only breath out in a scream the moment they hit the water from pain and started inhaling water maybe 20-30 seconds in? From a quick retrieval POV to have CPR administered? Would they be ok top of the water, or sinking?
Thaaaaanks 🥰
I've been called a lot of things but never a guru before! 😂 Thanks for your patronage! To answer your question, a body with a low lung volume of air has less buoyancy in water than one with their lungs full, so being already out of air plus the weight of their clothes, shoes, etc. they might sink.
Whumpees not realizing they’re about to pass out and hitting the ground like a bag of bricks? Beautiful, gold standard.
Whumpees realizing they’re about to pass out and asking someone to catch them? Lovely, also gold standard.
But you know what I don’t see? Whumpees realizing they’re about to pass out and laying themself down carefully on the ground just in time before losing consciousness, because they already know that’s where they’re going to end up anyway. It’s not as dramatic as a freefall but I can confirm it’s a thing we do.
When you are watching some whump and the whumpee's head is lolling slowly back and forth. 100% yes thank you
Top tier 👏
That little, beautiful moment where whumpee’s eyes roll in the back of their head while caretaker frantically tries (and fail) to keep them conscious until help arrives :)
That’s it. :))
Another whump trope I don’t see nearly enough of: Caretaker trying to keep Whumpee awake over the phone until they find them
What does it feels to be unconscious for the person that actually passed out? They feel like regularly sleeping? Or just like “floating” between awareness and unawareness?
For me personally, I didn’t really feel anything except when I first went down and when I first woke up afterward. In the in-between period, I don’t remember any sensation. it was just heavy blackness and silence, until my brain caught up and registered the cold and the pain. But it depends on the circumstances and the type of unconsciousness; some people can still register pain when unconscious as they do when they’re awake.
Imagine Whumpee getting drugged/otherwise knocked out and forced onto a boat. When they wake up they’re out in the middle of the ocean, no idea how long it’s been or how far they are from shore. If they’ve never sailed before, they may not know how to even get anywhere. Stranded, seasick, dehydrated and starving and lonely...
You know what really infuriates me? When in media, characters will get blunt force trauma to the head, get knocked unconscious, and then get up and start fighting like nothing! A character in a movie I like got knocked out by the villain, and 30 seconds later came flying in to attack the villain like he didn’t just get a semi-major concussion! Seriously!
Right? I’d rather watch them lie there dazed and semiconscious than up and fighting like nothing! Let their teammates do the rest of the work!
Whumpee drifting in and out of consciousness, back and forth, over and over. Sensing that Caretaker is waiting by their side, wanting to wake up and stay alert for a proper reunion, but their exhausted mind and body just keep dragging them back down.
