A thought I've been tossing around for a while is:
What if the Caretaker works for the Whumper? They want to help the poor Whumpee, they're right there, it would be so easy. But a wrong step could mean earning the boss's anger, and maybe even becoming a Whumpee themself. Food for thought, I guess.
They’ve gotta be really careful and sneaky about when they offer help and just pray that Whumpee understands the gravity of what they’re doing and doesn’t accidentally give them away somehow
Reluctant whumper! Thank you! His reasons are he's got a lot of trauma with past partners and the whumpee specifically being hurt by others, so is trying to protect whumpee from the world by locking them up and keeping them safe. Idk if they'll last yet or not, to Stockholm syndrome or not is the question lol
Oo boy, that’s a classic!
Is there a term for a whumper caretaker? My whumpee is kept tied up in a cabin by their boyfriend. He has reasons but he's simultaneously causing the whump and the one trying to soothe it, and isn't trying to hurt the whumpee. Is there a term for that? Also does this story sound interesting?
A whumper who doesn't really want to hurt the whumpee is usually called the "reluctant whumper". It does sound interesting! I am curious what the boyfriend's reasons are and if they're justifiable enough that they'll be able to maintain this relationship after all is said and done.
An oddly specific whump thing I'm a sucker for: The whumpee is on the "evil" side, but they're not really evil. Maybe the whumper has brainwashed them or forced them to obey in some way. Maybe they grew up with the whumper and simply don't know any better. They get captured by the "good guys" who are unnecessary rough with them, may interrogate them and stuff like that, because why would whumpee deserve to be treated gently? They're a villain, after all. However, with time they start to realize that instead of an accomplice, they might have captured just another victim.
Hopefully that will teach them to be gentler in the future to make it up to the whumpee and earn their forgiveness! Whumpee, a “villain”, reforming the heroes to be better people.
A reluctant whumper and whumpee who have to keep up a charade of despising each other if they want to fit in/survive in their cruel, grueling environment. Other whumpers are always watching to see that they meet the standards.
Whumpee’s forgiveness and understanding in their eyes every time Whumper “punishes” them in front of others. Whumper breaking down with guilt as soon as they’re behind closed doors, not knowing how much longer they’ll be able to stand doing this. Whumpee warning/pleading with them not to pull their punches next time; the others are getting suspicious.

“M’so tired...Please m’begging you...” Whumpee slurs pitifully, face haggard, eyelids fluttering. “Don’t care if they punish me...Just wanna close m’eyes for a sec. Just a second...”
“I can’t let them do that to you,” Caretaker whispers as they pull back a fist. “They might kill you, Whumpee, I can’t let that happen.”
Whumpee yelps when the fist connects and it breaks Caretaker’s heart, but the jolt of pain keeps them awake. For now.
Reasons why a reluctant whumper would whump?
- They’re being blackmailed into it by another whumper (hurt this person or we’ll hurt your family)
- They’re another whumpee who’s been turned whumper so they’ll be shown mercy and spared from the same kind of torture
- They’ve been doing this for a long time but now they’re starting to feel guilt/regret for it
- They’ve been convinced that it’s for the whumpee’s good but still feel bad
- They have no free choice in the matter (i.e. Reluctant Whumper is a robot who is programmed to obey and hurt the whumpee)
- The whumpee goads them on and makes them angry enough to lash out but they regret it immediately after
