Whump Ideas: Oversized Whumpees

Lmao! I just moved into my college dorms !!! Might start taking and finishing requests (No nsfw, I’m finicky on whether or not I’ll do pet whump, not a gore fan)

Another whumpee archetype is the oversized whumpee, generally tall and more muscular whumpees. (Perhaps monster whumpees that are just big bois and gorls) I surprisingly don’t see these as often in writing as I initially expected. Here are some I ideas I’ve conjured for this archetype.

The Big Scaredy

- An intimidating Whumpee at first glance

- A big anxious push over

- Perhaps once a terrifying force of nature, reduced to acting much smaller than themselves

- Greatest Hugger

There’s Always A Bigger Fish

- These whumpees are viewed as the more massive and sturdy ones

- Caretaker is shocked to find how someone like them could be reduced to anything, and no one knows how to deal with them

- Their Whumper is somehow bigger than them

- Tends to be ashamed of their “lack” of strength, and blames themselves

- Caretaker is even more terrified at the image of who could be Whumpee’s Whumper

Ashamed of their Whumper

- Their whumper obviously wasn’t there size… Bonus: Whumper is smaller than the average person

- Sometimes stoic

- Whumpee entirely blames themselves, and cannot be convinced otherwise

- Though their Whumper is small, the scars/emotional baggage they bear are surprisingly big

- Shame determines their every action

Big and Strong

- Hiding their injuries and ailments type

-Stoicism

- Can also be the leader

- Refuse to show any sign of weakness, but is increasingly reaching their breaking point

- Likely still being Whumped

- Harsh towards other Whumpees (especially ones their size)

- Why won’t they fight Whumper? Did they already reduce Whumper to ashes?

Traits I love

- Intimidating Scars

- Smol Caretaker vs. Large Whumpee

- Absolute Gym Bro Personality

- Stoic and Big

- Whumpee carrying themselves as if they’re smaller; hunched in posture, enclosed body languages, bowing, crouching, kneeling

- Whumpee terrified that they’re going to hurt Caretaker with even the lightest touch

- Caretaker starting out hateful or frightened of Whumpee

- The big dog trope (laying their body weight on caretaker)

Bonus: Feral Force of Nature

- Usually non-human and/or monstrous

- Sometimes associated with pet whump

- A danger to all those around them

- Will attack caretaker/trying to actively thwart caretaker

- Sharp teeth & claws

- Requires a team to handle

- Caretaker is even more hateful and frightened of Whumpee; constantly trying to get themselves out of the situation

- Gear up and armed Caretaker

- Usually requires force, restraints, or triggers to contain

RWT: Whumpee Archetypes

Following up - the last of the “pure” Triangle roles to get its archetypes (and probs the longest, cause, let’s not lie, they’re probs everyone’s favourites): the Whumpee.

Defiant!Whumpee

Rebellious, strong willed, stubborn, loyal, irritating – there’s all sorts of ways to describe a defiant!whumpee. And best of all, there’s many ways in which a whumpee can be defiant, even if they’re not any of those other things.
A defiant!whumpee could be a cowardly person finding the end of their avoidance rope and who snaps and resists unexpectedly. Or they could be like my OC the Sarge and be an all-‘round brat and pain in the ass of anyone who dares whump her.
Breaking a defiant!whumpee is amazingly satisfying for a whumper, and the whumperflies from seeing a defiant!whumpee finally giving in and resigning themselves, or giving up the info they’ve fought so hard to protect, is awesome.

Broken!Whumpee

A great type to follow the defiant one, since this is often the result of pushing a resistant whumpee over the edge. Like the defiant!whumpee, there’s a huge amount of range within this archetype. Maybe your whumpee is so beaten physically that they legitimately can offer no more resistance, even though they want to, and the trapped feeling of being unable to resist breaks them. Maybe the whumpee’s been put through so much emotional turmoil that they just don’t care anymore.
Or maybe they’re broken, but they don’t want to lose, so they goad their whumper into escalating punishments with the intent of being beaten dead or unconscious so they don’t reveal information but at least get out of the torture.
A broken!whumpee has given up entirely.

Sacrificial/Willing!Whumpee

I mix a sacrificial and a willing whumpee together, because for all my characters at least, none of them would want to seek out a whumping, but they take their licks as a ready consequence of the activities they’re engaged with.
Maybe the whumpee (Kellan) chooses to hang around their whumper (Major) because they love them, they believe in the better person their whumper is trying to be, and they think they can change them.
Maybe the whumpee (Tibenoch) volunteers to take the punishment of a teammate (Shae), thus willingly sacrificing their well-being for their friend’s.
Maybe the whumpee is broken or conditioned and does actually seek out a whumping for the sake of feeling “normal” – because they’ve gotten so used to being beaten.
There are so many delicious opportunities.

Conditioned!Whumpee

Once you’ve broken a whumpee, you gotta train ‘em, right? Here’s where a conditioned!whumpee is made.
Conditioned!whumpees have been made to adopt a set of behaviours, thought patterns, traits, habits, etc., of the whumper’s choosing. Maybe they conditioned it through the classic Stick-and-Carrot approach, rewarding “good” behaviours and (far more heavily) punishing “undesired” behaviours.
My favourite trope for conditioned!whumpees is when the whumpee has been taught to view basic comforts (beds, blankets, soft chairs, new clothes, fresh food, etc) as “rewards”. And so when they haven’t done anything reward-worthy, they refuse those items out of fear of punishment. Even after their team has rescued them.
Deconditioning a whumpee is where the caretaker shines, and the deconditioning presents so many opportunities for softer, more emotional and psychological whump for the entire family team.

Calm!Whumpee

Maybe this whumpee’s been through this before (sad but good), maybe they’re desperately clinging to their calm façade to belay their inner panic (yessss), or maybe they’re the type who thinks they’re above the current scenario (ohhh, infuriatingly good).
They keep as quiet as they can, interact as little as possible, and do as much as they can to sort of just… take it. They’re like little black holes of whump – they’ll take what the whumpers can dish, and they’ll show as little reaction as possible.
A calm!whumpee is a beautiful opportunity to write an inner monologue, or a descriptive-heavy scene. A whumpee might be silent and seemingly passive, but what small physical indicators are there that they’re really struggling?

Bravado!Whumpee

I wasn’t sure what to call this – bravado!whumpee, enduring!whumpee, brave!whumpee?
Basically, the bravado!whumpee is cavalier about their situation. They’re a bit like a broken-and-defiant!whumpee, except they don’t bother trying to fight. They just go straight to egging on their whumper, sure their tough minds and bodies can take the punishment.
Maybe they’re protecting the rest of the team? Maybe they’re stalling for time?
What’s a gambit for them? What actually hurts them? How do they react? What’s going on inside their head? What are they desperate for? Do they shift into any other type of whumpee to continue their bravado act?

Fearful!Whumpee

Possibly a coward, or young, or inexperienced, or just plain caught at the wrong time. A fearful!whumpee is driven by just that – fear. An all-encompassing, deep seated fear.
The fearful!whumpee might hurt themselves in their desperation to get away. Or they might transition into the next type of whumpee…

Betrayer!Whumpee

A despicable (and delicious) sort of whumpee, the Betrayer will, well, betray. As Doug Judy says, “scorps gonna scorp”. This is I think a very human response – a realistic one – and one that would scar the team and the whumpee deeply.
Maybe they hold out for a while, until they realize that there really isn’t any way out; maybe they give up as soon as a gun comes out. Maybe they turn into a reluctant betrayer after being broken?
There’s, like many of these archetypes, many different ways the betrayer!whumpee could show themselves. It’s easy to think we’d all be strong in the face of outrageous pain or torture – but I think in practicality, this is the most realistic response to that sort of scenario. Pain legit sucks, yo.

some of these might be a bit similar to each other, but I had fun making this list

—

defiant + broken

o doesn’t want to give in, show they’re in pain, give whumper the satisfaction, but is slowly being broken down and losing their will, their pride, their everything and flinches any time a hand is raised or at the slightest show of violence, though still fights and thrashes at every opportunity

cinnamon roll

o the innocent pure bean that never did anything wrong, and is now reduced to a crying, pleading, begging mess

completely unprepared

o similar to cinnamon roll, but not exactly, depending on personality. someone who has never been hurt before and may come from a very high / prestigious position now having to deal with this new station in life, stripping them of pride and dignity and hurting them more than they ever could have imagined they would have to face

puppet

o obeys every command of the whumper in an effort to escape more pain and maybe sometimes it works…but does it really? The whumpee hates themselves for what they’re doing and others aren’t too fond of them either, though the whumper likes them for their willingness (and how easy they are to exploit)

protector

o king of self-sacrifice and the one that’s trying to hold everyone together, though they can’t let themselves show their hurts in front of the others because they feel they have to hold up that strong front, leading to them breaking down alone from both the stress and their built-up trauma

chock full of self-loathing

o what it says on the tin. feels they deserve the pain for whatever reason and is resigned, even accepting or desperate for, the stuff they go through, seeing it as almost necessary or at least, something they should be able to bear

comedian

o a bit similar to defiant if you go with a more sardonic / dark humor, but someone who copes with the pain through jokes and sarcasm, always got a quip and a one-liner to hide behind instead of revealing their true feelings

optimist

o kind of a mixture of defiant and cinnamon roll, if that makes sense. someone who wont give up hope no matter what, as a show of defiance, because even if the whumpers can make them scream and beg and plead, they try to keep their optimism as the one last thing that’s truly theirs…but even that is starting to crack.

worshipper

o someone who is so brainwashed and broken they worship their whumper, they believe the pain is necessary and that it is making them better, or that it is something special only for them

obedient + terrified

o a whumpee that obeys every command of the whumper’s to escape more pain, perhaps because of conditioning that tells them they must obey or be punished
