This type of characters...
Caretaker is a father figure (much older than the whumpee) and quite grumpy. They just met for the first time and Caretaker is fully ready to protect Whumpee by whatever it takes.
Platonic love between Caretaker and Whumpee:
- Cuddling/sleeping next to eachother in very natural, not romantic way. Lying on the bed, watching the ceiling and having a deep talk about their dreams for the future. Or even little funny fights in their sleep like pulling the blanket. "Ey, take that foot out of my face, stinky!" "Oh? But it's where it's supposed to be. Don't like that?" "I'M TELLING ON YOU TO LEADER!!"
- Seeing the other in "borrowed" clothes and not even saying a word about it, because they switch clothes so often. (Giving the other a jumper cause they're cold/wet)
- Knowing eachother's facial expressions so well they can tell the other is upset/overwhealmed when no one else notices it. "Whumpee, what were you trying to say? I didn't catch that in the conversation" / "What about changing the topic now?"
- Both of them being sincerely surprised if someone asks them if they're together. "With Caretaker? Ah, haha, no! They're a big brother! Why? Do YOU wanna hit on them? You'll need to go through my vibe check first. Pray you pass it."
- Communication skills worked out, because they know eachother for so longg!! "Are you mad at me...?" "...I'm- really hecking frustrated, partly because I'm hungry and tired. I need some space now and we'll figure it out later, okay?"
- Not pushing the other to confess their traumas from the past. Your secrets are yours to decide if you want to share them and when. I don't need to know everything. (W:) "...you don't seem surprised by what I said" (C:) "Yeah... I kinda figured it long ago. I just didn't want to bring it up until you're ready"

Caretaker being great with kids

- A parent, maybe one of main characters, falls asleep while holding a baby. The baby starts crying. Caretaker just quietly whispers "I'll rock her to sleep, may I?" and holds the baby securely, with an elbow for head protection. "Go to sleep, I'll handle this" tells to the parent.
- Caretaker being called uncle or aunt by the local kids. Imagine Whumpee going "How about it, Uncl- ekhm- I mean Caretaker. Sorry. I'm so sorry."
- When a kid approaches, Caretaker simply shows interests. Listen to what a kid is saying and asks questions. "Oh, you found this treasure by yourself? Amazing! What are those called? Which one do you like best?"
- In a danger, the younger protagonist (teen?) instinctively grabs Caretaker's sleeve and steps behind them. Caretaker instinctively covers the younger with arm and pushes them behind.
- Extremely stoic while being in danger themselves. But when Caretaker's forced to watch the younger protagonist (teen) getting hurt, immidiately becomed agressive, fights back, screams, tries to break the restrains and finally spills the information just to protect them. (W:) "I could take it" (C:)"I don't care, you're not getting hurt under my watch. Now leave the adult decisions and fixing problems for me and stay out of trouble"

"I've never seen them so [x] before" is one of my favourite things a character can say.
So broken? So happy? So careless? So scared? So invested? Everything works. And it feels like the character is getting on next level of understanding the depth of the other one.
Some signs Caretaker is very chill/feels safe

- Caretaker drops the glass and breaks it. Says "oops" and makes sure everyone's feet alright. Then cleans it up, just takes another one from the cabinet and moves on.
- "So, let me get sure I understand. You feel [x] about [x] and expect from me to [x]. Did I get that right? Okay, I see your point. In my perspective it's a bit different. I feel [y] when you [y]. And I'd appreciate if you [y] next time. Let's make some compromise out of it"
- In their written scheldue there's planned time for computer games or sleeping late on free days.
- Caretaker's procrastinating) scrolling through phone, computer etc) and someone walks in. Caretaker just greets them, maybe shares some funny meme or photo and comes back to scrolling carelessly.

Excuses to make two characters cuddle
when they're not that close to cuddle on their own

- A is delirious and has a pretty bad nightmare. They call for a dead family member/long lost love/friend. In their sleep they grab hold of the arm of B that lies next to them. A calms down and the nightmare is gone. B tenses up, but doesn't wake A up.
- It's cold and they have to warm eachother up. The awkward: "tell me if you feel uncomfortable" "No- I mean- are you? I can move backwards-" "No, it's okay. Can I place my hand on your back or...? It goes numb when you lie on it" "Oh, gosh, sorry"
- A and B get drunk. A wakes up cuddled to B's chest. They move to their own bed and never talk about it again. It works great if A and B don't like eachother at all or are enemies to lovers.
- B is a big spoon that needs to hug the pillow to sleep well. But after they left home for the adventure, they instinctively grab the nearest thing every night. A bag with supplies. A pillow of their mates. Their mates. They're never aware they are doing this. A's too awkward to tell them.
- (A:) "Whaat?? US?? NOT LiKing eachother???? noooOo! That's crazy!!" squishes B hard in hug and grins with anger (B:) "NooooOo! I just- LOVE THIS GUY!" B jabs A in the ribs while laughing.

- They're a few years younger than Whumpee. So there's that strange dynamics of younger "sibling" that has life figured out and an older one that is complete mess and gets in trouble all the time.
- Mimic wrinkles. Laugh lines, crow's feet, dark circles, stubble. They look older than how they actually are. Especially if Caretaker is a hardworking character that can't take a break.
- Caretaker has absolutely no clue about first aid help and lowkey panicks. (C:) "Okay, just- hold on for a sec. Just lie down- I'll- I'll figure it out". They take out their phone and in a moment a voice comes from the speaker: "Welcome guys in the next medtube video! Today's tutorial: How to reset the bone fracture" (W:) "ARE YOU F##ING KIDDING ME?!"

“I can’t swim.“ [Hero] stared at [Villain] as [Villain]’s mind screeched to halt. The sound of rushing water surrounded them as the room steadily flooded.
”… You what?“ [Villian] finally asked.
"I can’t swim.” [Hero] repeated, the water reaching their knees and steadily rising.
[Villain] looked at [Hero] for a long moment, trying to find any hint of humor in their face. Upon not seeing any, they began to grow worried.
“Say sike right now.”
“No.” was [Hero]’s only reply.

"Yeah, no s#it" the water raises to their weists. For a moment they just stand and stare at the rising water surface.

V: "If we get out of here alive, I'm paying you for your swimming lessons...... And for a spa to chill you out"
H: "Add the movie tickets and restaurant and we can call it a date"
V: "Yeah, no. I'm not that rich"
Some emotional whump
Give me a positive character who's wrong about their own intentions, but there's no one who would know them well enough to tell, even the reader.
And when they realise, they are shocked they are not as altruistic as they thought or that they are more influenced by their past experiences then expected.
- "Oh... This is how I was really feeling about this? Why didn't I realise sooner?"
- "Maybe I am having a coping mechanism"
- "Why was I screaming? Why did I think I was angry? I'm not angry. I'm... scared"
- "Was it manipulative? Am I manipulative? I didn't mean to hurt them! I just wanted them to stay"
- "But this memory didn't feel so traumatic. Why it keeps coming back...?"
- "I don't love them. I just love the feeling of controll I have over them. I'm with them because I don't want to feel helpless ever again."
- "I DO care what they think of me. I'm just self-sabotaging"
- "I'm- I'm doing the same thing my father/mother was doing to me"
- "I wasn't doing it for them. I was doing it for myself. I just wanted to make it look better"

And the feeling of emptiness right after this realisation. They can't consider themself a good person anymore, or a rational person or independent or anything else they believed was their strongest advantage.
