I never in my life ever imagined I’d make a post like this, but I’m asking for help.

No obligation. No pressure, but an unforeseen house expense and rising medical costs associated with my Spinalcerebeller Ataxia are putting me in a precarious situation. I’ve started a GoFundMe for assistance.

Like I said, no pressure whatsoever, and it hurts in my soul to even ask, but if anybody wants to help me, here is the link.

Listen, I understand the appeal of “strong character forced to get medical care” and “hiding injuries from teammates” and such, but I really love a particularly under-utilized trope, “I trust you enough that I am asking for care and no one’s going to make a big deal out of it”. There’s something about calmly recognizing your part in this narrative, knowing that this has happened before, that you might as well not make it worse. That someone will help you. Think:

Heroes shrugging off a jacket to let the medic stitch them up without pausing their conversation.

“I think I broke a rib but you can look at it later. You know me, I don’t lie if I’m not OK.“

Gesturing for a friend to help them walk.

Waving the medic over right before they lose consciousness.

Undressing or moving their hair or laying down on the exam table without being asked.

things in whump that mess with emotional control my beloved. would this character normally cry? they will now! would they normally be able to pretend to be unaffected? now they’re shaking uncontrollably. this can come in so many ways too:

  • exhaustion
  • drugged whumpee
  • blood loss or shock
  • extreme trauma

just. whenever a character has a wildly decreased ability to control their emotional reactions or displays!!

The white-knuckle grip of a character grounding themself whilst enduring the throes of extreme pain; clutching the bedframe- tangled sheets- a companion's hand- the arms of a chair- loam of the forest floor- hem of a jacket- handful of carpet- fingers clenched tight as a vise and tendons straining.

touch-starvation needs to be written with emphasis on the starving part. you are hungry to be touched. so hungry that even the very taste of it makes you nauseous. it has been long since anything has ever touched you, ever fed you - that your body has grown more used to that gnawing emptiness more than anything else. it's better for you to be held, to eat but it makes you sick to try. you know

Whumpee leaning on Caretaker. They don't even really need anything at the moment but a point of contact with Caretaker makes them feel safe so they just...prop themself there for a bit

whumpee being in distress for so long that they just stop feeling emotions. whumpees that are cold and apathetic and numb and as emotive as rock. whumpees that have retreated into the comfort of their own internal world, and it's going to be hard to get them back out. even after rescue they're still so.. still. bonus points if they were super bright and expressive pre-whumping

when whumpee is tied up to a chair and in their desperate attempts at freeing themselves, they fall over to the ground together with the chair with a loud thump, reblog if you agree

(bonus points for frustrated, muffled grunts through the gag)

Caretaker sitting behind a very weak and semiconscious whumpee, holding their limp body upright against their chest. To get food or medicine or water into them, or to help fight off a chest infection, or to provide some comfort and stability while a wound is stitched...I will never not love this image

Shhhh! Keep your voice down and don't be loud. Whumpee is sleeping (or has just fallen asleep).

  • In Caretaker's arms after being rescued.
  • In a hospital bed in a recovery ward (or perhaps an ICU) after receiving care and treatment or perhaps emergency surgery.
  • On a bed in a room in a recovery house. Bonus points for the house are that the house belongs to the Caretaker and the bed BELONGS TO CARETAKER (AND CARETAKER'S BEDROOM)!!!!
  • In the passenger seat. Sleep on your back in the back seat or sleep in a half-sitting position after the seat is lowered slightly on the driver's side seat. Bonus points Caretaker puts on the jacket or coat to cover Whumpee.
  • On the sofa in front of the fireplace.
  • In a wheelchair while taking a leisurely walk.
  • On the couch on the terrace.
  • On the Caretaker's lap. Bonus points with the accompaniment of Caretaker's soft voice lulling Whumpee to sleep and caressing Whumpee's hair.
  • Sleep leaning on the Caretaker's shoulder when sitting side by side. Bonus points when they are in a discussion with the team members and Whumpee suddenly falls asleep exhausted.
